Post Up: Knuck If You Buck

Milwaukee stuns Miami (again) and 10 more games from last night.

by Abe Schwadron | @abe_squad

Sixers 98, Bulls 82

Philadelphia has now passed the first and second tests of a ridiculously difficult seven-game stretch, leading by as many as 20 and using a 26-11 third quarter to get past MVP Derrick Rose and the Bulls. DRose finished with 18 points and 6 assists, but Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young dropped 19 points apiece and the Sixers turned some heads with a fairly painless win over Chicago. Philly is a fun team because they love to make the extra pass—they had 26 assists as a team and four players had at least 4 assists, including 6 from the team’s leading scorer, Lou Williams, and one fancy dish from Iggy (who also threw one down with authority on the break at one point). The Bulls, who dropped to 18-6 but still cling to the top spot in the East, struggled to get offensive production outside of Rose and CJ Watson, who led the team with 20 off the pine. Philadelphia improved to 16-6, 12-2 at home, and has won 4 straight. As for that murderer’s row of an upcoming schedule, the Sixers’ (who are in a logjam at the 2-spot in the Eastern Conference currently) next five are as follows: Heat, Hawks, Lakers, Spurs and Clippers.

Magic 109, Wizards 103

Once again, Orlando gets bailed out by scheduling—hey, helps to have Charlotte and Washington in the division, huh? The Magic, losers of four straight heading into last night, got back on track against my Wizards behind 23 points and 18 boards from Dwight Howard, who actually shot a decent percentage from the free throw line (11-of-16) for once. Ryan Anderson had 6 three-pointers and 23 points, including the nail in the coffin from deep range to finally put away the pesky Wiz, who got surprising performances from Rashard Lewis (20 points), Shelvin Mack (career-high 12) and Kevin Seraphin (12). Unfortunately, John Wall had a god awful shooting night, making only 1 of his 12 field goal attempts and finishing with 2 points (he did have 10 assists and 7 rebounds). It was Nick Young’s 24 points, including some ridiculous threes in the final two minutes, that kept Washington within striking distance—within four with 34 seconds to play—and Orlando fearing another meltdown. But the Magic escaped, even without Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson, to improve to 13-9 on the year. Oh, and sorry Larry Hughes. Maybe next come back.

Nets 99, Pistons 96

A night after suffering a smackdown at the hands of the Knicks, the Pistons found an opponent more their speed. And lost again. Detroit fell to New Jersey despite the Nets dressing only 8 players, which included Keith Bogans, who played 18 minutes and scored 2 points just hours after joining the team. Deron Williams racked up 26 points and 9 assists and Kris Humphries put up a 18-8-5 line. It was DWill’s fifth straight game with 20+ points and the Nets are now 8-15, while the Pistons have settled in the basement of the Eastern Conference at 4-20. Detroit is the only NBA team with 20 losses. And yet, they were in this game until the final buzzer, when a Brandon Knight (15-5-4) heave was off the mark. Actually, the Pistons had possession down two with under 30 seconds to play, but had to settle for a tough Tayshaun Prince (21 points) turnaround jumper on an isolation play, and it was quite the brick! Two weird bonus videos from this game, both fan-related: awesome dancing and annoying yelling.

Bucks 105, Heat 97

LeBron James scored 40 points, and Milwaukee is without Andrew Bogut, and yet the Bucks beat Miami for the second time already this season, despite a red-hot start for James and the Heat. After one quarter, the Bucks were 40-23, and LeBron had outscored Milwaukee by himself, with 24 points in the first. Unfortunately for the Heaters, they scored just 57 points the remainder of the contest. Brandon Jennings went HAM in this game—he gave the Bucks a two-point lead on a floater in the lane with 11+ minutes to play in the fourth quarter. And then came the rain. Young Money hit 3 of his insane 7 threes on the night during a critical fourth-quarter stretch to get the crowd involved and put Milwaukee out in front, and the Heat could do nothing to stop him. Jennings finished with 31 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and zero turnovers. Oh, and that LeBron character? All he did was drop a season-high 40 points, plus 8 boards and 5 dimes. But it simply wasn’t enough. The Bucks’ balanced scoring attack and 30 assists as a team outdid LBJ and 23 from Dwyane Wade, as the Heat were hurt by 18 turnovers, 7 of which came from LeBron. As a reward, the Bucks get to play the Pistons next. Congrats, fellas.

Suns 120, Hornets 103

Steve Nash scored 30 points, had 10 assists and “passed” Kevin Johnson as the Suns’ all-time franchise leader in assists on a fast-break dish to Josh Childress, en route to a blowout victory over the sinking Hornets. “Machine” Gortat added 23 points and 11 rebounds and Channing Frye had 16 as Phoenix bumped its record to 8-13. This game featured 20 lead changes and 15 ties, and the Hornets were within 1 point as late as 8 minutes to go in the game after a Greivis Vazquez three, but the Suns outscored New Orleans 32-16 in the fourth quarter and 64-44 in the second half, while shooting 53 percent from the field. Vasquez had his best game of the year, with 20 points (7-10 shooting), 12 assists and 6 rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench, but the Hornets turned it over 17 times and fell to 4-18 on the season, good for worst in the Western Conference.

Thunder 95, Mavericks 86

Don’t know about you, but I’d pay to watch these two tangle in another Western Conference Final. It seems like every game they play is an instant classic. This time, the Thunder came out on top, thanks to 33 points from Russell Westbrook, 23 points and 13 rebounds from Kevin Durant, and a double-double you don’t see every day from Serge Ibaka, who finished with 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocked shots. Dirk Nowitzki, meanwhile, scored just 8 points on 2-of-15 shooting while battling a sore right knee. Jason Terry led the Mavs with 25 points, but Dallas shot only 36 percent from the field as a team and watched a nine-point first half lead disappear—in the third quarter, the Mavs shot just 3-for-19, scoring only 14 points. From the highlight reel department, here’s Russ skying high on a lob from James Harden. And from the lowlight department, enjoy Rick Carlisle kicking the crap out of the basketball. Naturally, he was ejected.

Pacers 109, Timberwolves 99

Danny Granger scored 29 of his 36 points in the second half, pushing the Pacers to 9-5 on the road and 15-6 overall despite 21 points and 17 rebounds from Kevin Love. Indiana held the Timberwolves to a 37 percent field goal percentage, and Minnesota made just 3 of their 17 three-point attempts. Granger did it all for Indiana, hitting 5 threes, grabbing 7 rebounds and pushing the Pacers to the win in his team-high 41 minutes. It helped that Darren Collison totally outplayed Ricky Rubio—Collison had 20 points, 9 assists and 6 boards, while Rubio finished with 10, 6 and 4, all of which you can watch for yourself in one handy highlight reel. JJ Barea made his return for the Wolves, scoring 7 points on 2-of-8 shooting in reserve minutes. Actually I shouldn’t say “Wolves,” since Minny was decked out in their throwback uniforms last night to match the Pacers joints, which I love. Which ones did you like better?

Spurs 99, Rockets 91

The Spurs trailed by 18 as late as the third quarter, before Tim Duncan went all Timmayyy on the Rockets, scoring 16 points in the quarter to begin San Antonio’s march back. Danny Green’s three-pointer with 7 minutes to go gave the Spurs their first lead since the opening quarter, and they finished the game on an 8-0 run. By game’s end, Duncan had racked up 25 points, and Tony Parker scored 24. Houston, meanwhile, had more assists and more rebounds than the Spurs, and held a massive lead early on, but turned the ball over 20 times, negating a nice performance from Kevin Martin, who had 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The Rockets—who looked like they were wearing McDonald’s All-Americans jerseys—are just 3-7 on the road (12-10 total) and will start a six-game road trip after hosting the Suns in Houston on Friday. The Spurs are 14-9 and currently sit in the sixth slot in the West.

Clippers 107, Jazz 105

Lob City was out in full force from the opening tip. Literally. And while the Jazz hung tough (this game wouldn’t die, would it?), the Clippers hit 8 free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the franchise’s first win in Salt Lake City since 2003. I have a feeling this Chris Paul fella is going to help the Clip gang erase a handful of those type records this season. Paul was nothing short of spectacular last night, scoring 34 points to go with 11 assists and 5 boards. By the fourth quarter, he was toying with Jazz defenders, much to the delight of benefactors like DeAndre Jordan here, and Blake Griffin, who turned in a monster night of his own—31 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks. The Clippers outrebounded the Jazz 50-35, and got the most important board of the game when CJ Miles intentionally missed the second of a pair of free throws with 1 second remaining, Utah’s last gasp. Reggie Evans pulled down the miss and LAC improved to 13-6 and No. 2 in the West. In fairness, the Jazz played extremely well, never giving up and getting a 27-12-4 line from Al Jefferson, while Miles had 16 off the bench, and forwards Paul Millsap and Derrick Favors scored 14 apiece.

Celtics 100, Raptors 64Trail Blazers 112, Bobcats 68

Sorry, but when two teams with a combined 10 wins lose by a combined 80 points on a night with 9 other games, it’s not worth the space to write about each on its own. The only real question here is, Which team got blown out worse? Charlotte lost by more, and looked slightly more awful, but the Raps scored the fewest points of any team last night. Toronto shot only 33 percent from the field vs. the Bobcats’ 34 percent (Portland and Boston both shot better than 52 percent), but then again, Charlotte allowed Jamal Crawford to do this. Our favorite young stars for each squad played poorly in their respective Ls, as Kemba Walker shot just 1-for-11 (4 points) and DeMar Derozan was 3-of-12 with 8 points. The teams on the winning side of these bloodbaths handled business—the Blazers are now 13-9, and Boston got above .500 at 11-10 on the year. Paul Pierce led the C’s with 17 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds against the Raptors, while the best Portland performance came from Crawford, who scored his 24 points in just 21 minutes off the bench.

Lines of the Night: Plenty of nice lines to choose from—so let’s do it this way: Bronze Medals go to Dwight’s 23 and 18, LBJ’s 40, and Danny Granger’s 36 and 7. Silver Medals go to a trio of point guards: Brandon Jennings put up 31 and 8 dimes to lead Milwaukee past Miami, while Steve Nash turned back the clock and went for 30 points and 10 assists in a blowout win for Phoenix and Russ Westbrook took charge down the stretch against the Mavs (33 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists). Last night’s Gold Medal goes to Chris Paul—for his 34 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds, and because he’s awesome.

Dunks of the Night: Dwight Howard on Javale McGee, The King on no one in particular and DeAndre Jordan on the Jazz front line.

Tonight: Six games, and almost all of them have the potential to be great, starting with TNT’s doubleheader of Bulls at Knicks before Nuggets at Clippers, plus Grizzlies-Hawks and a late-night Jazz-Warriors matchup. Enjoy your Thursdays, people. Catch you on the flipside.

112-68?!?!?! Did Charlotte even TRY to win this game? Has a HOME team ever lost by that big a margin before? Goodness.

  • MLK4Life

I don’t think you can really say who the best PG in the game is. Too many people use their hearts instead of their minds. Not too many look at the elements that a great PG should have in their games. Court vision, shot selection, shot making ability, decision making, defensive ability, ability to control games. Its fair to say that at their best, Chris, Derrick and Deron are on a different level than the others. Westbrook is still out of control too often and needs to make better decisions. Rondo can’t shoot. So to me, CP3, Rose and D-Will are the top 3.

  • Myung

I’m fairly certain Duke and UNC could beat Charlotte right now. When Kemba Walker, BJ Mullens, Gerald Henderson are your stars, you’re not going to win very many games in this League. I read the post game comments and noticed coach Silas was making excuses. Sorry, but DJ Augustin and Corey Maggette aren’t that special. Just because you’re missing those two guys doesn’t mean you should just roll over and die. Charlotte needs to get contracted.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

If the Clips and Thunder can get to the WCF, that may be more more exciting than anything the East can put out. Oh yeah, f*ck Bron and his legkick, Spo and his Filipino stupidity and Dwyane for playing like a*s. Milwaukee, Philly, Indiana & the Hawks are all going to be tough outs in the first round for Orlando, Miami and Chicago. The playoffs are going to be”who’s hot then” and if those teams can ride it out.

  • Myung

Thank you, Milwaukee. Because of your efforts last night, I can proudly say that as of the February 2nd, 2012, the Atlanta Hawks are in first place in the Southeast Division. We all know this isn’t going to last very long so let me savor it while I can.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Myung….you’ve said that same thing about 4 times already this season. It would hold more weight if they didn’t drop OUT of 1st place for like a month or so. :)

  • Myung

We cling to these small victories here in Atlanta. They’re all we have.

  • MLK4Life

If the Heat have to play halfcourt basketball, they’ll have problems. Its great to have LeBron and Dwyane in the open court, but they both want to pound the ball in the halfcourt. And they’re not jumpshooters. Something to watch for in the Playoffs.

  • AD

cp3 is playing like its too easy ou there, anybody else notice that?

  • http://slamonline.com/ Abe Schwadron

CP3 absolutely OWNS the fourth quarter.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

Houston should’ve won that game. TIm Duncan absolutely went to WORK on Jordan Hill and Patterson after Dalembert picked up 2 fouls in 1 min in the 3rd Q. Kevin Martin’s been on a nice scoring binge lately though.
BTW, Is there anyone more clutch in the League at “we need a 3 right here, right now, regardless of who scores” than Paul Millsap? So many times he’s hit huge 3′s for the Jazz. Ridiculous.
ps – I saw people giving out their twitter accounts on TPU yesterday, mine’s @ HurstySYD so feel free to hit me up on that too.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

They forgot about Bosh. But he needs to demand the ball, f^k the egos of the other two. When Bosh is on, this team wins. yeah, I said it.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

Cp3 really can do whatever he wants whenever he wants…. he’s injured or something right? that’s the only real excuse I’ll accept for him not doing that all the time.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

    co-sign cheryl and I got you hursty…

  • MLK4Life

Clippers vs. Thunder will be an exciting WCF.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

The Heat need to run the ball through Lebron first, Bosh second, Wade third. But hey, in a dream world, right?
The Heat have no killer instinct. It’s going to cost them. I can see OKC or The Clippers causing some issues, at least in this point of the season.
Nash dropped 30-10. At 37-years-old. Middle finger to every single one of you.
CP3 has retaken the “best point guard” position in my heart. Yep.
Didn’t see many games, got a longggg road trip to Florida tomorrow. But looks like I missed some good ones.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Charlotte doesn’t need to get contracted, they just need to choose wisely in the upcoming draft. Kemba is a good piece, but obviously not the answer, and Henderson is a decent role player. They need to take a stud SF though, because their 4/5 rotation is reasonably well set up for the future, unless they get a crack at Drummond.

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

I see you datkid. LOL @ your last open tweet man. I have no idea who that girl is but you had me rolling haha.

  • AD

idk wanna start a best pg in the lg debate becuz CP3 is dominating the best…. But wait what dwill does next year….. And cosign @cheryl as well bosh needs the ball more

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

    LMAO thanks

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

I have to be honest, even though Tony Parker isn’t a top 5 PG in the League anymore(ever?), he’s still got the best interior scoring game in the League. Floaters, teardrops, bankers, one-legged runners, scoop shots, wrong foot layups. You name it, he can do it – off either hand. So, so hard to guard.
I know Rose is tough to guard because of his explosiveness, but he doesn’t have the finishing consistency that Parker has.

  • Justin G.

Agree with those saying CP3 is the best right now and also the Heat need Bosh to be involved more, maybe even more than Wade right now. Bosh was in absolute beast mode while Wade was out so why wouldn’t they keep playing that way? And LOL @Jukai for “Middle finger to every single one of you”

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    F*ck you Eboy.
You can criticize Spo, but don’t ever reference our race.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

The hometown Barnes should be an easy pick for charlotte if they fall 3-5. But if they get #1, go for Drummond.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

eboy the filipino thing is a little far man. you cool and all… but I’m just saying.

  • http://twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

Eboy has been saying that sh*t since Spo has been the coach. You’re not going to get him to stop.

  • http://twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

Also good to see some of you old school slam people in here.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

The Bucks be like Saddam Hussein Hitler and Osama bin Laden to the Heat

  • http://Www.dimemag.com showtime

I guess those Sumer league play did help after all… The young buck is really balling, he finally over the 40% in shooting, is going for like 21a game. And has the @ 500 ball without A.b. Or captain jack for most of the year. But credit to Shaun and drew for Step up.. Bj might be all-star quality this year

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

@Showtime: Really? BJ for allstar? Rose is a lock to start and Deron Williams has been picking up his game…you really think he will make it in?

  • webstarr

The league is awesome right now. Love seeing the changing of the guard. Whole host of new dangerous teams and players.

  • KHALID SALAAM

    Yeah Sixers….

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Like I said yesterday, is there any team out West the Clippers should actually fear? Methinks not. Not saying they will beat everyone because they have some obvious weaknesses, but they should feel like they CAN beat everybody.
Cheryl is right about Bosh. He should get 15-18 shots a game. And he needs to remember his promise about hitting the glass. The Heat bench has enough cats who can score that they should be able to manufacture points. And I hate how James Jones just disappeared from the rotation even though he’s the teams most consistent three point shooter and is crazy nice in an uptempo style.
What happened to Dirk’s jumper? This is puzzling.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I guess thats what happens if you try and make CP a scorer. You can’t go under those screens, especially when they start in the mid range, because he just fakes to use the pick steps back and has a wide open jumper. He is one of the best mid range shooters in the L, maybe top 5 of a dribble.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I think the Clips do feel they can beat everyone. The Bulls beat them pretty bad, but they are a totally different team now.

  • AD

cp3 and blake griffin do have that mentality that there better than everybody else when they play but the can’t beat the lakers in a series

  • http://www.dimemag.com showtime

@albert i dont think it that off base as he proclaimed in the begining of the year but Bj is balling , shooting at least a decent % and his team has beat team quality team lA, Mia , Nyk well may not Nyk lol..but all without key players most of the season. Its Drose, and then BJ as a reserve, you got think what coach look at wins?? Rondo hasnt played due to injury, jwall & dwill or on dumbster juice teams. So its not that far fetched

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Jennings does not deserve to be an all star over D Will. If they switched teams would Milwaukee be a better team? No doubt. Even though D Will has had a bad shooting start to the year by his standards, he is still shooting around the same % as Jennings, who is having a career year.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    The lakers? Are you serious?
Come on. The Clippers can definitely beat the Lakers in a series, mainly because the Lakers have some of the worst guard play in the League outside of Kobe. Basically, the Lakers have Kobe, Pau and Bynum and that’s about it. The Clippers are a deeper and more cohesive team right now.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

If that Clippers team makes the West finals then the West is as week as its been for 20 years. That team can’t guard anyone.

  • robb

wow, the Bobcats really suck, I feel bad for Kemba.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Hypothetically, if the Clips somehow won the whole thing would you consider the league to be the worst its been in twenty years?
I actually see the Clips getting better on defense as the season goes on. Griffin has actually started attempting to block shots, so that may give them two rim protectors, and I just see them getting more comfortable together.

  • T-Money

    - Miami needs to address the elephant in the room and play accordingly. This is Bron’s team and he should always eat first. It seems so forced when they go to Wade for stretches without any momentum, just because.
    - The distance between Bron and Wade is so great right now that Bron is kinda taken for granted. You know why nobody says when Bron is rolling, Miami wins? Because, unlike Wade and Bosh so far this year, he’s pretty much rolling every night.
    - I’m tired of hearing about how Miami needs to involved Bosh more. You’re a star, you play 40 minutes a night. If you want the ball, go on the block and demand it. He seems to be awfully content roaming around the perimeter.
    - Allen: it’s not possible to play 5 wings. James Jones will not play unless someone gets hurt.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I don’t see any west team aside from Oklahoma City beating the Bulls or Heat. I give the Cillpers a 2% chance of winning the whole thing lol

  • T-Money

the things i’m worried about with the clips have nothing to do with who they’re facing. they can beast on anybody BUT:
    - i’m worried about chauncey and caron taking over in the playoffs and the young bigs unconsciously deferring to the old pros in tight spots.
    - i’m worried about deandre being in foul trouble in big games. they simply can’t replace what he brings.

  • http://www.dimemag.com showtime

@ allball how doesn’t bj deserve when his out put is better this season.. his team has a better record and should make at least the 8th seed. the eff and numbers are the same across the board with both. dwill has better assit at 8 instead of 6 but also has more turnovers. This is brandon year to sneek in. Im not sayin he better than Dwill but he deserve to be on that allstar squad this year.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

If Bosh pounds the offensive glass…

  • Chou

@J & datkid – This ain’t the first time Eboy said that. It’s a shame, people were just talking about racism and ish a few threads back.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

Miller and Battier need to be more willing to just chuck threes. That is James Jones’ forte: make them or not, he chucks threes. Battier likes to pump fake and throw tear drops, Miller likes to cut… which is fine if only Wade or Lebron are in the lineup.
If you have both Wade and Lebron in the lineup, freeze at the threepoint line.
This has been my complaint about Miller all of last year. He tries to do too much. That’s why I thought James Jones was a better option. Now that Miller has his three going, I take back what I said, but Miller needs to plant his ass down.
I think the Clippers could beat both the Heat and the Bulls. They have better execution when things get tight.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

Oh, and Jennings is making me look good.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

Although T-Money brings up great points that could derail the Clippers.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

And Eboy’s comment is ignorant defiance, not racism. He called Spo a “Filipino simpleton” a while back… and a lot of people (including myself) jumped on him (especially since I am dating a Filipino girl). He really doesn’t believe there was anything wrong with denoting what ethnicity Spo is, and now he just does it to be annoying.
    It’s ignorance, not racism.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    Oh, boy…

  • T-Money

jukai – i’ve noticed something about mike miller yesterday: he forgot how to dribble. that’s so weird, i’ve never seen that. usually, your handles are your handles and it rarely changes. i remember mike from minny or dc that would cross over or bring the ball up. now, he can’t dribble twice without the ball bobbling.

  • Chou

Both D-Will and Jennings should be in the ASG, no doubt. Also, this should be the year that Josh Smith finally gets in. Dude has been snubbed two years straight.
Rose, Wade, Bron, Melo & Dwight starts.
Deron, Iggy, Smoove, Bosh & Hibbert for the reserves.
BJ & Granger or Pierce as wild cards.
P.S. Amare shouldn’t be in. Neither should Rondo.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

T-money I feel the same about Billups, less so with Butler. Butler is not as far away from his best days as Billups is. Billups is the only one on the roster that won’t defer to Chris Paul at all times. If Paul is on the floor and the shot clock is under ten, he should have the ball in his hansd to make a play. Chauncey still thinks that the Clips are starting two pg’s, and that Paul is playing with him, not the other way around.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

T-Money: Well, I think he’s just lost a step and so he doesn’t try as much fancy stuff. He is 31.
I don’t think he wants to bring the ball up though. You have Chalmers and Cole who they want to establish, and you have Wade and Lebron who occasionally bring up it up when they are hot. So Miller bringing the ball up seems worthless.
But yeah, he does seem a bit off balance whenever he dribbles.
More of a reason for him to just spot up and chuck. Make it or not, it’s going to spread the floor for Lebron and Wade.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I think Rondo should make it. When he has played he has been better Williams and Jennings, and he may be back for their game tomorrow.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Abe Schwadron

Random thought: temember when everyone was hating on Jennings at No. 43 on our Top 50…..seems like a looooong time ago huh.

  • http://dsfjklf.com Jukai

Abe: Remember when they put Gilbert Arenas over god damn Allen F*cking Iverson? Ohhhh lord.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Butler doesn’t take many bad shots. That’s Chauncey’s entire game!
And while the Clippers might not be a great defensive team, with DeAndre Jordan int he game you do NOT get easy buckets against them in the halfcourt. It doesn’t happen.
Bron is crazy consistent until the fourth quarter. Bron should eat the first three quarters, and then Spo has to go by feel on how he initiates the offense in the fourth. Because, honestly, Bron still does not spend enough time abusing smaller players in the post by my reckoning. Every time a small player guards him he should make it his business to try to destroy their manhood. That’s all he should do, but he only does it sometimes.
Bosh does get passive, I don’t understand him. If he just hit hte glass he would get more shot attempts too.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I don’t think Hibbert or Granger should make it either. Seems there might be a few guys who make the East team this year just because they have to have 12 (?) guys.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Abe Schwadron

Fair enough, Jukai, but you’re talking to the wrong guy. Wizards!!!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    - Allen: I think it’s very dangerous for Miami to go by ‘feel’ in the 4th quarter. They need a script, they need roles and predictability. Bron has to eat first at all times, it’s Spo’s job to make the best player in the NBA feel comfortable doing what he does best in the last 5 minutes. That’s just coaching. Whenever possible, I would play Bron at the 4 late in games to make sure that Battier or Miller are in the corner to space it out. Sorry UD.

  • MLK4Life

I don’t think Wade should be tossed aside for LeBron. He still has more offensive moves in his game. One of the holes in the Heat is you can zone up, keep them from getting fastbreak points. You can do that because if Bron can’t get to the basket, all he has left is shooting jumpshots. He’s a streaky shooter. If Wade isn’t in rhythm and LeBron freezes up again in the Playoffs, the Heat won’t be returning to the Finals. If LeBron was smart, he’d make sure Wade is rolling. Remember when we thought Bron was going to be the second coming of Magic? Remember when some said he’d change his game and get close to averaging a triple double in Miami since he wouldn’t have to score as much? Yeah, that didn’t happen. He’s playing just like he did in Cleveland.

For the record, Ali’s comments have been excoriated over the years for the racist tone, and it’s truly one of the low points in is otherwise outstanding career.
Not only was he pandering to drum up interest in his fight and sell tickets, but he fell back on old racist tropes about monkeys and skin color to do it. • http://www.slamonline.com J

Aight. I’m cool with Eboy. I just don’t like what he’s been saying referencing us. I’d like to believe he’s a good guy as what you guys are sayin. He’s also renting my teams former hero (lebron) so were on the same train on basketball..
Racism isn’t really an issue here in my country. Or atleast thats what I believe. We’re widely know for our hospitality and we really don’t care about the color of your skin or the shape of your eyes. We joke about other countries just like others do, but we know our borderlines. Poverty is a bigger issue here. Besides, Pacquiao is kicking foreign arses out there for us so.. just kidding. Carry on..

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    Spurs gonna win it all.
    You already know, man. lol

  • webstarr

Wow Filipinos are outraged today. Is he racist for saying the word “Filipino” followed by a non-related negative comment? Like when one says you fat, white, a**hole…isn’t the negative part that you’re a fat a**hole? Not that you’re white? The white is just there for extra emphasis.

  • Myung

To address some of this eboy stuff … some thoughts… first of all, he is probably the SLAM commenter I “know” best, outside of this site. So there’s that. He’s my guy. Secondly, I’ve already personally addressed the Spo “Filpino” criticisms with him directly, outside of this site, so like Allen, I just think it’s been beaten into the ground and I don’t want to address it today, even though I’m a proud Asian American (who admittedly has thin skin for racist comments, even though I really shouldn’t, since this is the Internet and all, where anyone can flex big muscles through his keyboard… I generally take things too personally, even though I should no better). For the record, I don’t condone it at all, even in jest. But I guess IN THIS CASE, I just look the other way, because eboy cleared it up with me. Like I said earlier, it’s just Cliff being Cliff. I think in fairness to those who take offense to it, if you don’t know the history behind it, it can appear to be very racist and ignorant. It’s like jumping into a conversation, midstream. But he’s not racist. He’s just being eboy.

nbk – yeah, I’m on twitter. I’ve found most of you guys there. Hit me up.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

MIA and OKC must be thinking before every 4th quarter “how can we f*ck this up while looking like the worst 4th qtr team of all-time”. If they are fortunate enough to face a team like the clipps in the playoffs (with the best crunch time player in the L), they might mess around and lose. OKC’s and MIA’s ineptitude 4th qtr play are the only thing hold them back from being the clear cut favorites.

Im not about to tackle online racism because it happens so much. Im not one bit racist but if i say the Lakers keep losing cause of Mike Browns black stupidity, thats racist, so whats the diff? But like i said, i dont really care so lets not start anything.

  • blakos

Someone knowing someone is not necessarily that farfetched. Someones bound to know celebrities. Does Jukai have a thing for Taurisi or is he just anti-Philo?

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

So, it IS official. It is widely regarded AND accepted that on THIS particular thread, our brother, Jukai’s blatantly dry and RACIST comment/alleged joke about Mike Brown is seen as, well, racist.
    Even IF in jest.
So, you’re “dating a Phillipino girl?” What’s that, more ammo for your argument? What are you, trying to convince yourself, at this point?
As a matter of FACT, you are actually in the minority when it comes to this “proving that I’m note a racist” thing. Everyone who is regular up here has already moved on. You, on the other hand, have a battle to fight.
The joke didn’t even have the general tone of of some coy, off the cuff racial joke. “a black bum”?
I respectfully ask of you, Jukai, why do you even make attempts to paint yourself in this false light? I notice you do that when talking basketball, as well. Is it a complex? Do you do that in real life, too?
For example, you have in the past made asses of yourself when speaking of The History Of The Game. You were exposed for not knowing what you were talking about.
You were exposed on your insanely AND generally ignorant “thesis” (it HAS to be a thesis) that… CHAUNCEY BILLUPS (yes, CHAUNCEY BILLUPS) is a top 15 all time NBA point guard.
Come on, Jukai. You are almost grown, now.
    Take that next step.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

The bulls are going to CRUSH the knicks… my goodness. Orange won’t show his face around here for another 2 months afterward.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

    philo is going in…. jeez

  • blakos

Definately a racist edge to Eboys comments. No doubt. In saying that i see Enigmatics point. If someone calls me a stupid honky (whiteboy) i dont really dwell on the white part of the payout.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    And, he’s basically anti-Philo.
He’s been riding my package for years, now.
He has this “thing” going on with me. He has implored to our SLAM brethren about how I say this. How I say that. And how it bothers him.
He’s giving me too much power over him, for one.
Two, my oft flamboyant style, my charisma, and my deft knowledge of The Game, (which has been proven to be greater than his) and my deft knowledge of The History of The Game (which has been proven to be greater than his) irritates him.
I often come with flawed arguments. (according to some/many on this site) But I do not come up here to win an argument.
Also, in reality, after I annihilated him on a particular thread, when I exposed him as a desperate beggar, he changed his style.
He even changed his style on his Facebook page.
I mean he thought, and maybe still thinks, that he “knows” me, or something. When in reality, I know him better than he knows me.

  • charliewinning

Sorry but I have to agree that Jukai says some borderline racist things. For the record, I really hate when white people bring up whatever limited interactions with minorities as proof of their lack of racism. It only reinforces my feelings about that person. Also, y’all take this slam ish too seriously. Way too emotional in here.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

C’mon kids play nice. That said, hopefully we won’t see Orange tomorrow. The only downside is that if the Bulls do win, bull_22 will do some taunting. Think you can keep your fellow fans in check, Enig? And if the Knicks win, heaven help us.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

I come home and yall still talking about racism LOL… I love this website… and the Knicks are actually making a game out of this.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

And to answer Myung’s question in the very first post of this thread, Nuggets at Hornets, 2009 playoffs, 121-63.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

Damb Amare you gotta hit that! We came close to taking out the best team in the East… so close yet so very far…
    Clippers are on again?

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Why did Thibs have his guys foul Melo with 6 seconds left? That seemed stupid.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

They had a foul to give and they were 4 points up. They were playing the clock more than they were playing the scoreboard. It took about 7 seconds off the clock.

charliewinning: I know Philo is 16-years-old and an amateur troll, but what exactly do I say that’s racist, out of curiosity?

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com Enigmatic

    Bulls won.
Best I can guarantee is that myself, Diesel and airs won’t come on here acting a fool over this win tomorrow.
As for everyone else, no promises.
For the record, I’m upset with this win.
Bulls got their a**es kicked in the third quarter.

  • http://chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls Diesel

I wasn’t happy with the Bulls play, but I’m holding my judgment till when the team is fully healthy. I’m semi expecting defensive lapses like in this game when every player has to log big minutes. It was good to see Thibs playing Butler in crunch time and the rookie stepping up.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

Even though the Bulls are one of the best at filling holes/next man up PHILOsophy (sorry hadda do it), they are a different team without Hamilton. But yall still got the best record in the east even without Deng. Once they come back you guys are straight.
