Reports: Derrick Rose Wants Pau Gasol in Chicago


The latest Pau Gasol trade rumor — there have been a lot lately, to the chagrin of Gasol and his teammates — involves Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. From Marca and Sheridan Hoops: “Derrick Rose has let it be known to Bulls management that we wants to play with Pau Gasol if Chicago is able to swing a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for the veteran power forward from Spain, a source said. The Spanish news outlet Marca was the first to report Sunday that Rose has given his blessing for the Bulls to go after Gasol with a package that would be centered around Carlos Boozer and another player. ‘He hasn’t said so publicly, but he has made that known privately,’ said the source. [...] Carlos Boozer has three years and $46 million remaining on his contract, while Gasol is due to make $38 million over the next two seasons. The Lakers have an $8.9 million trade exception from the Lamar Odom trade that they could use to acquire a player making up to that amount without surrendering much (it could be as little as a conditional second-round pick) in return, which gives general manager Mitch Kupchak enormous flexibility in trying to improve a Lakers team that has struggled offensively all season. If the Bulls were willing to surrender backup point guard C.J. Watson in a Boozer-Gasol deal, it would address the Lakers’ need for a young, steady point guard to buttress their current rotation of Derek Fisher and Steve Blake.”

    The Lakers would not do this boozers pretty inaffective and has a huge contract if they could get a three team deal that sends a PG to us that would be ok.

    I understand why D Rose would prefer Gasol to Boozer but you can’t publicly go out and say it. He may not have specifically said it in those words but he said he wanted a top 5 power forward in Chicago. This can only mess up chemistry. For the Lakers though, CJ Watson and Boozer are you kidding me? That’s a terrible deal and I think there are so many other options for a starting pg out there. Calderon would be the best one in my opinion, 3rd in the league in assists with 2 very good finishing big men and arguably one of the best scorers of all time.

    So since when are Marca and Sheridan Hoops reliable sources? Even if it were legit, the Lakers would want way more than Boozer. The whole world knows he plays like hes 5’9″ and 145lbs. The only way they do that is if Pau demanded a trade and wanted something done quick and even then Id see LA wanting Taj Gibson or Asik somewhere in that deal….I see LA and Orlando pulling something off before this fabricated rumor…

    Click my name, this is the only trade that makes sense for me for these teams. Still don’t think they’ll make a trade like this…when was the last time Bulls’ GM made a huge move like this? It’s been a while. Their whole team is free agents and draft picks.

    the only thing that is certain is the la lakers as i said at beginning of the season are in shambles. i still think dwight will end up in la and copy shaq’s career because he is apparently desperate for a ring like lebron is.

    The best trade would be Bulls get Pau, Lakers get Deng, third team gets boozer so he doesn’t have to come off the bench. But I don’t see a deal going without a third team.

    i hate boozer, as a basketball player. in the game vs boston, he went it alone on the break and missed a left-handed lay up instead of dunking the ball. that’s all you need to know about his lazy -ss.

    @matt i love my bulls, but noah and boozer need to start living up to their contracts and make the game easier for the rest of their teammates with stronger play at the rim. i want to see the noah from a few years ago and not the one that makes me pull my hair when he gives away easy turnovers or stands around with no clue as to what to do with ball.

    I can’t see Orlando doing that trade. They just don’t get enough back. I like all three of those players, but I’m not exactly sure what Gibson brings as a starter.

    If there is a deal to be done Bulls should jump. Like someone said Bulls management usually does not make big deals. I just hope they go against convention.

    As a Laker fan the only way i’d be okay with trading gasol is if we get LaMarcus Aldridge back. I’d settle for Boozer AND Deng (all i want is deng. one more metta world peace brick and i might off myself)

    With Bynum down low, Lakers would be best suited to get a PF that can hit the mid range jumper. Bynum and Gasol matched up well in the post together because Pau is a good passer and the triangle. Now look at them in Browns offense. David West would fit, Zbo, Millsap or Jefferson..someone with those skill types. But I do agree with Drose…Pau would beast in the east because of his talents and it would only open up things for Drose to be..well…Drose!
