Stephen Jackson on His ‘Sad’ Situation in Milwaukee

The Artist Formerly Known as Cap’n Jack is rotting away on the Milwaukee Bucks’ bench, and he thinks the team may be trying to kill his value on the trade market. Per SRI (via ESPN Radio): “On people considering him a cancer: ‘They try to downplay my worth probably so I can be stuck here. I don’t know. People like to make excuses for people when things aren’t going good. Everybody knows I can play. I’ve been in this league a long time and I know when they’re trying to downplay guys and kill their worth. At the end of the day, like you say, Tim Duncan and everybody knows I’ve been a great teammate, never been a cancer to anybody, and everybody is their own man, but at the end of the day I’m one of those guys that never settles for not playing. I know I can play, everybody in this league knows I can play and it’s just a sad situation that I’m sitting on the bench on this team and not being able to play the minutes I know I’ve earned in my 12-year career.’ If he would like a trade: ‘I’m just going to see how it plays out. I mean I’ve got to be professional and obviously I can’t say I want to be traded. No one can say that and I’m not saying that but we’ll see what happens. I would like to be in a better situation if it’s here or somewhere else but my situation has to get better.’ What he can do to make his situation better: ‘All I can do is worry about what I can control and that’s coming to practice every day and working, making sure I’m ready to play when I do get a chance or if I’m somewhere else I’m ready to play. That’s all I can do at this point. I can’t coach the team, I can’t tell coaches what to do or what not to do, all I can do is continue to work on my game and make sure I’m ready to play when it’s my time.’”

Trully a shame to see him riding the bench and here about Milwaukee’s offensive woes.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Scott Skiles treats players like children. If your not willing to do everything he says, well…..

  • shutup

One of the dumbest decisions in recent sports history was him leaving the spurs, he left a championship team and took less money, smh.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I thought they just didn’t offer him a contract?

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

    Rip Hamilton part deux

  • shutup

they didnt offer him a big payday like he was expecting, I think they offered 26 mil over some years and he ended up signing wherever for 23 mil, again not sure on the numbers this is off memory

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

i think san antonio offered him less years, correct me if i’m wrong. And why would milwaukee try to kill his trade value? that would be real stupid if they want to trade him, and if they don’t, well, then he has no trade value at all.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

oh wow, he just did that like as a grudge thing? Or did he really want to play in Atlanta?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

He makes 19Mill over the next 2 years. His trade value is pretty non existent as it is.

i remember reading an old game recap on this site when his team played the lakers and the author wrote, and i paraphrase: When stephen jackson saw that sasha vujacic was on him he yelled thug life! pulled out the heat, emptied the clip and drove to the whole. lol good times, old school slam game recaps.

  • @Deknowz

Scott Skiles is going to be the reason alot of those guys skip town.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

How good was Scott Skiles in his playing days? I don’t know too much about him… I do know he has the record for most assists in a game though.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

He was a good starting point guard in his prime. i think 17 points & 8 or 9 assists was his best season if i remember correctly.

  • shutup

“After the 2003 season, the Spurs did offer Jackson a generous contract offer, 10 million for three years, but he and his agent balked and ended up taking a lower contract from the Hawks, 2.1 million for two years.
This is all I could find on it.” He was looking for a long term deal and to get paid for being the third leading scorer on a championship team, but the Spurs had to be mindful of the cap so they could resign Manu,

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Oh word, thanks for lookin that up, i always wondered what happened.

  • shutup

He was sick in NBA JAM and I would always play with shaq so he was the small white guy chucking threes and throwing oops, he had good D in the game too

  • shutup

No prob, been a spurs fan for a long time, was kinda mad he left, he gave the spurs some flavor.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They sure would have been in better shape keeping him then they were with Hedo the next year.

  • http://slamonline.com Eldon Khorshidi

I have always and will always love Stephen Jackson. His game/face/mindset/tattoos make him hilarious/ the man. Also, Duncan said he was the “ultimate teammate”.

  • shutup

I never like Hedo, Peja was my dude like some European assassin type.

  • Josh

What recession? Dude is making 19 mil to sit on a bench and travel around the country with a fat per diem. Geez stop complaining.

That being said jack’s reasoning makes no sense at all.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Shut up and NBK had a respectful conversation…

  • projectphantom

But trust me when i say this, he is a WAY better basketball player than he is a rapper. Stack5′s mixtape sucks. Its cool that he raps though lol.

    the nets will welcome him

  • Ldub

At least Jack added that all he can do is keep ready. Im on both sides of the fence. He should be playing, and if he isnt settling for “no minutes” and he is speaking on it…that is lowkey asking for a trade no? I know I wouldnt wanna be on any NBA team (knowing that ive put in work for 12 years) and ride the bench to watch players like Mbah get tick. As long as dude is staying prepared, that is respectable.

  • Dan

jackson speaking about never being a cancer to any team. well… somebody forgot about some… “incidents” in indiana? :D

Stack5 haha. It’s so funny because everything he says, he’s saying “I don’t want to say anything, but _________”. That’s like saying “I’m not going to use names, but Jim is the one who did it.” It’s just so contradicting. But yeah, he could obviously get more time on another team. Bucks need to make a move. Trade or Feed.

  • swiftyk

Stack5 haha. This interview is funny too. Everything he says in here is like “I don’t want to say anything, but, _____.” That’s like saying “I’m not going to use names, but Jim did it.”

  • http://onthacorner.com/forum Kevin

Well if he aint playing in Milwaukee he can concentrate on rapping……….that mixtape he dropped was straight jamming

  • swiftyk

wish i could erase accident posts.

  • Ldub

    co-sign swiftyk!

  • LP

didnt scott skiles have like 30 assist in a game??? he can bench whoever!

  • Dan

@nbak – malice at the palace and this one http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2621509 makes it incidentS

n due to all respect for jacksons achievements (and league wide struggles in this shortened season) he is shooting below 40% from the field and below 30% from downtown. you cant come up with this and demand anything, regardless how much worse the players may be who are being played over him.

n talking about some strict coaches treating their players like kids… well, many pros are actually acting like kids…

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LTdx1nPu3k Teddy-the-Bear

A 30 assist game is like a 60 point scoring night. Insane in the membrane.

  • do it

lakers should trade for him. arenas kobe jack gasol bynum 2012 champs

  • DerekG

Trade value? Less than 40% from the field? Who’s beating down Milwaukee’s door to get Cap’n Jack? Also, “never been a cancer”? Wasn’t this the guy who forced his way out of Golden State? 5 fouls in 9 minutes in a preseason game against the Lakers! Add his bad attitude to his below par play and I’m certain Skiles is trying to amnesty this dude and free up some cap space!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

that happened in the off-season Dan. That is not an incident with the Pacers.
