Tracy McGrady Frustrated With Lack of Playing Time

After playing limited minutes in the Hawks’ loss to the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday night, Tracy McGrady seems to have been awfully upset with the amount of time, or lack thereof, that he spent on the court. Via the AJC: “Hawks forward Tracy McGrady’s private frustrations over his playing time finally boiled over after he played just 4:39 during the 97-77 loss to the Blazers late Saturday. ‘I’m tired of this [bleep],” McGrady said. “You can put that in the paper, I don’t give a [bleep].’ McGrady didn’t play after halftime against the Blazers. He didn’t dress for Atlanta’s 101-99 victory at Phoenix Thursday but said it was his decision to rest for the second game of a back-to-back. Against the Blazers, McGrady never returned after Marvin Williams replaced him with 7:21 left in the first half. McGrady has played in 26 of 32 games this season for an average of 18 minutes before Saturday’s game. Last season with Detroit McGrady averaged 23 minutes in 72 games. McGrady said Hawks coach Larry Drew hasn’t offered him an explanation when he doesn’t play him many minutes. ‘If you don’t feel I can help, come tell me that,’ McGrady said. ‘He ain’t told me nothing. I just want to help these guys win, man, which I know I can. But, damn, four minutes?’ McGrady made his comments after Drew’s postgame news conference. Earlier this week Drew, speaking generally about the limited amount of minutes available for his many veteran players, said he thinks it’s important to offer them an explanation when they don’t play much. McGrady said he’s previously approached Drew about the topic but doesn’t plan on doing so again. ‘I have before but I’m only going to do that one time,’ McGrady said. Drew has said he’s mindful of saving McGrady’s body from wear and tear. McGrady was a two-time scoring champion before a series of injuries that includes a herniated disk in his back. He suffered back spasms on Jan. 11 and sat out three games. McGrady said that when he suits up, that means he’s ready to play. ‘My body feels great,’ McGrady said. ‘If it didn’t, I wouldn’t play.’”

^technically he did with houston, but he was hurt and did not play. The hawks can make it to the second round though, but then……

As a Hawk fan I would rather have T-mac on the floor than Marvin or Vlad-Rad. I’ve been very suprised with him, he still brings a lot to the table when given the chance. Come on now Larry Drew, it isn’t like it’s working the other way around.. Awful game against Portland… smh.

Wouldn’t be averse to seeing him in Boston in a 2010 Nate Robinson type of role.

BREAKING: McGrady also frustrated with lack of athletic ability.

I have watched alot of T-MAC’s games this season and let me tell you, he plays absolutely the worst defense ever. its not that he is just getting blown by but its his defensive activity, he literally just stands around and watches (trust me he does this every time). at least be active TMAC when you dont have the ball especially on D, the worst team help Defender in the league, at least move your feet and attempt to help…. damn i cringe watching him, he still has alot to offer (o) but he can get really lazy both on offense and defense

    Free Tmac.

  • Chukaz Posted: Feb.19 at 5:41 pm
I hate to say i told you so smh. He shoulda gone to the Lakers. He woulda gotten minutes with the Lakers and our big could cover for his HUGE defensive shortcomings. We need more playmakers (we only got Kobe) and T-Mac can still make plays. Matt Barnes is terrible on D and World Peace is terrible on offense. McGrady wouldn’t possibly be worse than those two. FREE DEVIN EBANKS!!!!!!!!!!

“He didn’t dress for Atlanta’s 101-99 victory at Phoenix Thursday but said it was his decision to rest for the second game of a back-to-back.” Awww…. as a Houston-Fan, it sounds so eerie familiar. Tracy, you can’t decide by yourself when you will rest and when you wanna suit up. No wonder your coach can’t rely on you. Maybe yor coach taught that the coach needed to rest TMac instead of TMac always deciding when he is weary? Hum?

I could only wonder what McGrady’s career would have been like if he stayed in Toronto many moons ago and played alongside Vince Carter.

  • shutup Posted: Feb.21 at 2:23 pm
TMac is too old and too bleep to play this beautiful game.

  • DHughes Posted: Feb.22 at 8:37 pm

  • DHughes Posted: Feb.22 at 8:40 pm
