Tyson Chandler: New York Knicks ‘Can Win a Championship’

The Knicks stopped their recent slide with a win over the hapless Detroit Pistons last night, and Tyson Chandler says that New York is a title contender. Supposedly, Chandler wasn’t joking when he said this. From ESPN: “Tyson Chandler won a championship with the Mavericks last season. In his first official day as Knick, Chandler said the team had enough talent to bring a title to New York. Nearly two months later, the Knicks are in a tailspin … Despite all of that (and delusionally, some would say) Chandler still believes the Knicks — if healthy — can win a title. ‘In all honestly, I still feel like this is a team that can win a championship. I feel like we definitely have the pieces,’ Chandler said. ‘I feel like we haven’t come together yet. It’s a process … I feel like guys are going to have to step up and play roles that they are not necessarily used to. We get everybody back healthy, we get everybody on the floor at one time, then we’ll see what we got.’”

My question is, why the hell did anybody think those two were point guards? I never ever, even remotely saw that, from either of them.

LMAO at orange’s 12:57 comment…he’s taking all this slander surprisingly well.

NBK: See what I mean? He brings up Chris Duhon’s “resurgence” which lasted half of the season and plummeted like the god damn titanic once teams made simple adjustments.
Oh well, yeah, what about that Mike Woodson!

No, Jukai. He can’t. But with the right roster (ie. no ball stopper in Melo), a good, talented PG can look better than he is in the system that D’Antoni executes on O. That’s it.

I have a pretty good understanding of Allen’s feelings towards Nash. I don’t at all find them to be as negative as you do. And idk if he does or doesn’t remember Duhon’s little resurgence accurately, but I do remember people arguing he was somehow a starting caliber PG (which I vehemently opposed) after that little 1/4 of a season of big assist numbers. I think that’s all he was referring too. But he may just be over exaggerating

    *’true’ PG (pass-first)

hey Tyson here’s a list of the 10 worst teams today: Charlotte is by far the worst team with the worst roster in the league. then comes the Pistons. tied for 3rd worst is the Hornets and Lizards. the Kings are right after. Tied for 5th place is the Nets, Raptors, GSW and the Suns. the Knicks have the 10th worst record in the league. None of the previous 9 teams sent an all star to last season’s All Star game except CP3. So before winning a Chip Chandler, make sure your team is at least respectable

People were saying Duhon should make the All-Star team at one point. Then, D’Antoni wore him down, teams adjusted and he lacked to game to make things happen.
But he was absolutely killing. We can’t pretend it didn’t happen.
The system works well for point guards. Before New York people were questioning whether Felton was a starter!
Nash is great. All time great. But minimizing the system that exploded his game is lame. Dude was an all-star point guard before came to Phoenix. He started running SSOL and he became a Hall of Famer with NO changes to his actual game. Those are facts.

    ^ wasn’t me.

  • Mike from Spain

The Knicks can win a championship… in what league?

  • http://sdjklff.com Jukai

That “no changes to actual game” thing was absolutely false. He changed his game a lot. This, however, had to do with hand checking rules, not his change of team (the real reason Nash exploded).

No, Mike Woodson is not an upgrade over D’Antoni. But Phil Jackson is…

  • zach

You would be a perfect team with a better point guard

JVG is what we’ve been hoping for for a minute now. Don’t see it happening though. Only ‘fix’ I see on the horizon is something involving D Will, or D12 and Nelson. Everything else is not going to get it done. We will be better when everyone is healthy, but better at this stage is just securing a solid playoff spot. That’s the limit with this roster. That doesn’t sit well with me at all.

  • ab40

yeah and so can the bobcats. Be real, this team is not in balance. They don’t play winning basketball on either side of the floor. And Phil Jackson living in the cold in NYC? That’s gonna kill his body, he’s going to stay retired.

    you’re probably right

  • DNz15′s

I can’t take anything NBK say serious anymore. Ever since he said Glen Davis is top 5 pf in the nba

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Lol I never said that

This is what comes out of the mouth of someone who is disillusioned into believing HE is the reason teams win Championships. Yes, Tyson, we all know you’re talented, but step down off that pedestal you DON’T belong on. You felt Mark Cuban disrespected you by only offering you a $20 mil, 1yr contract, but smart owners don’t tie themselves up into 1 player who has a history of injuries, nor do they pay a player ‘franchise’ money who was merely a ‘piece of the puzzle’ in a Championship season. Wish you nothing but the best, Tyson, but if you REALLY were the reason the Mavs won the title, you shouldn’t even be having to speak right now….the Knicks would be in way better shape than they are right now. LET’S GO MAVS!!
