Agent: Miami Heat Close to Signing Ronny Turiaf

Ronny Turiaf is taking his celebratory dancing (and basketball, we suppose) talents to South Beach, his agent tells SI: “Free-agent forward Ronny Turiaf is close to signing with the Miami Heat, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein. Turiaf, who was bought out by the Denver Nuggets after being sent there from Washington before the trade deadline, is eager to play again after breaking his left hand for a second time in early January. He has been out ever since, but will help the Heat’s front-court depth heading into the postseason. The likely deal, according to Bartelstein, will be for the veteran’s minimum and run through the end of the season with a player option for next season that is, in essence, ‘an insurance policy,’ Bartelstein said.”

    Joel Anthony > Ronny Turiaf

Never seen to much of him but we need another big man. Hope he can contribute some points

this helps miami. but they still desperately need a legitimate 7 footer. i’m really hoping they can talk greg oden into giving it one last shot next season.

I think I’d take Turiaf over Anthony, Anthony is the better defender but he can’t score for sh*t, I haven’t seen much Heat games this season but I’ve seen him miss some open ass layups.

Not sure about this. I’d take Anthony because he plays his a$$ off on every play and gives a rebounding and shot blocking edge. Turiaf is a good player but honestly I would let Pittman play more minutes due to his height and big frame.

Turiaf is also an all-out energy guy. his D may not be as good as Anthony, but he can put the ball in the basket.

    and the rich get richer

I root for Joel because he is canadian but for some reason people seem to think he is better than he actually is (which amazes me). He is completely useless on offense and he is a poor rebounder. Not many centers in the league that couldn’t replace him as a starter on the heat.

thank god. Turiaf is better than Joel. i taught u guys knew better. I cannot stand pittman. he needs to go back to the dleague

Haven’t watched Turiaf in a year it seems like, but the guy is all out heart(no pun on his real health issues) and energy. He plays as hard as anyone in the L every min he is in the game. Always been a big fan of his. I met him at Gonzaga. He’s a fantastic human being and a solid ball player. He averaged 2 blocks a game in 20 mins. That’s nice. He also isn’t scared of anyone or any moment. IMO a nice pick up.

LOLLL what a bad pick up. Good job Heat, I love the pick up.

thanks heat managment and pat riley for reading my slam comments.
Ronnie turiaf was the best of the worst plus he got a solid beard.
Hope he can score a couple of baskets behind joel.

This may not seem like much but Miami is that much more ready to take on the Thunder or Bulls in a 7 game series. He’s gonna give Joel a run for his money for that starting position.

Why the heck are people yelling about how bad of a move this is? I’m fairly confident they have an open roster spot and they are getting this guy for a pro-rated vet’s min. Anthony will still be there, they just now have a more depth in the backcourt. This guy is definitively an upgrade over juwaun howard and eddy curry.

Anthony stink! What you really need from Turiaf is rebounding, because Mr. Softy Bosh just watch people down low, what the Heat need a Rodman like player, to do all the dirty work, not just block a shot now and than but also bring down 10 to 12 rebound a day and give Lebron & Wade second changes, let Bosh do the main scoring down low, I mean that why they paiding him the same as lebron and more than Wade to do ( since he can’t do any other big man skills bet Pat wish he spend that money some where else).

  • Rasha

Anthony is the worse starting center I every seen in my life and you have the miami fair weather fans chating MVP ( How dum are they), I mean if he was a great rebounder I will have love him for doing his Job as a center ( what the team need him to do, they don’t need him to score), but not scoring, not rebounding and the middle of the pack of big men in. blocking shot ( Wade lead him in blocking on his own team and Wade not position down low), no way should Anthony be starting, Anthony have the worse stats of any starting in the last ten years and there are 25 team back up this year who stats are better than his ( that how stink the Miami Heat big men are, that they can’t take his job, they already don’t play him at the end of the games).
