Allen Iverson Agrees to Play in Dominican Republic

AI’s attempt to return to the League has been unique, to say the least. The Associated Press reports that the four-time NBA scoring champ is taking his crossover to the Dominican Republic, having signed a one-month deal (reportedly worth $22,000) to play for Pueblo Nuevo: “Former NBA star Allen Iverson is joining a regional basketball league in the Dominican Republic for a month. Team president Milton Nunez told The Associated Press on Thursday the 36-year-old guard will play for Pueblo Nuevo. He declined to say how much Iverson will be paid. Iverson is to arrive Sunday and play for his second-place team that same day against GUG in Santiago province, Nunez said. “He and his agent have told us that he has been training a lot and that even if he hasn’t been playing anywhere, he has what we need to help Pueblo Nuevo,” Nunez said.”

Why is this man not in the NBA? He has a lot left in the tank.

  • http://SLAMONLINE.COM Gab

that’s awesome AI is gonna ball in D.R

  • http://www.nba.com Re

Cause he’s a douche and got himself blackballed from the league.

  • OTB

All the “superstars” from the early 00s who chose not to work hard when they were at the top and instead focus on celebrity or their talents are now feeling the pain. Antoine, Vince, T-Mac, AI are all no-names at this point, and it goes to show you that the guys who did stick around (Tim Duncan, Kobe, Ray, KG) worked a lot harder then they did. I have zero sympathy for guys like AI.

  • Brian

They left out the part of the article that says he’ll be leaving by Monday…..

  • anonymous

So much admiration for this cat. Iverson should have been suiting up in December for an nba team, yet he`s not letting that discourage him. AI is a like a boxer who takes one jab after another, and still gets back up fighting. Big ups to AI for not giving up and allowing the nba to control his destiny. That one month will fly by quickly, so thats a good deal. Keep fighting AI. Bring Allen Iverson back to the nba next season. (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003623050884&sk=wall)

    Amen to OTB! LOL

  • http://slamonline.com Lakeshow

Kobe is my favorite player but A.I has always been the sexiest. Good luck in DR Answer

  • Paul H

T-mac really shouldn’t be on that list OTB

  • Brahsef

@OTB I didn’t know AI was asking for your sympathy?

  • kyle

Yeah..T-Mac just got hit with a bunch of injuries.

  • fruizm

@OTB…..AI not a hard worker?? a skinny 5’11 guard who won MVP? scoring titles? all star appearances?? yeah I guess youre right.

  • CubicleWorker

OTB to be fair TMAC suffered major injury setbacks and is still logging minutes on a relevant team. Vince is still a starter on a contender. None can compare to the level of longevity that Kobe has had though..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jay

AI will get back to the league…im happy hes playing though dudes one of the greatest to ever do it!

  • kz

    kz is stupid….

  • KING

you cant spell fail without… AI hahahah

Hope it goes well, would love to see him in a nba jersey again.

  • riggs

lol @ iverson playing in the same league i was in years ago

  • OTB

If a guy like Derek Fisher can stay in the league from 1996 until now, there is no way that AI should be in a Dominican league. This is on HIM and no one else.

  • sadeye2507

Jeez Slam are you still gonna run stories like this 3 years from now??? Ninja please! Allen Iverson trying to make a comeback to the league SMFH

  • Jamski

    Heard it’s pure BS. But I guess a headline’s a headline

  • MikeC.

According to SI.com, Iverson’s agent already shot this down as a false report.

  • djb

Although, the earlier story that Allen Iverson had signed with a Dominican Republic team was seemingly reported by every news source within just a few hours, the report is FALSE according to WashingtonPost.com. This is the story of AI`s career, the media`s unwarranted, unjustified, and constant intervention in every aspect of his life. Try confirming a story before releasing it.

  • http://slamonline slams chuck barkley

    Cubicleslacker has it right

  • toinefan88

very dissapointed in the nba right about now

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

Some of u need to let it go. AI had multiple chances and now his NBA days are behind him. Let it be

  • Stillballin

Im the biggets A.I. Fan but A.I. Need to take any offer he gets at this point of his career if he wants to continue playing.

  • Drig

As OTB said, if Derek can stick around purely based on his attitude and hard-work ( his talent level is nothing compared to AI’s ) then the problem rests with AI. He had multiple chances. He still wanted to be the main guy even when he obviously couldn’t. And his attitude didn’t endear him to any of the coaches as well.

  • Dingo Rob

Not sure if this is correct, his agent has not spoken with Nunez sounds like a porky

  • Golakeshow

Who cares. By the way Allen iverson can kiss Derek fishers rings. One of which came while guarding Iverson in the finals. This guy is stupid. No amount of practice (no not even the game) is going to change that. List of players I would rather have: kwame brown, Luke Walton, joe smith, Boris Diaw, smush Parker, Darko millicic, Lamar Odom (Mavericks), Glen Davis, Anthony Carter, shaq (Boston), gilbert Arenas (magic), Rasheed Wallace, Tracy McGrady (Knicks/pistons), Betty White, Ron Artest (rockets), and Shawn Bradley both during his career and in 2012. Yes. Readers. That list was just displayed. Now go figure out how the h3ll your gonna make your teammates better by practicing!

  • Mike Jones

Golakers show you cant really think that. Besides shaq on that list iverson would have more points than all those players combined, more mvps, more scoring titles and more skills at the age of 36.
It is so upsetting that a first ballot nba legend cant get a game and derrick fisher and gilbert areans are getting gigs, it kills me in side and i can think of easy 10 starting point guards iverson could start over.
Hopefully this can act as a stepping stone. Please dont give up AI.

  • majic

    22k dam ill sign hi.m 4 tht

  • OneStep

If he gets back to the League he’ll be a pale shadow of his former self. I’d rather remember him in his fearless pomp. He had his time. Now it’s KD, Lebron and others’ time.

  • Mike

Why is VC getting put in the same category? This guy is the starting two on a championship contender at the age of 35. Ask anybody associated with the Mavs and they will say Vince was by far their greatest pickup this offseason and has played perfectly in his role.

  • Golakeshow

@mike jones yes I actually think that. This guy was never that great and he is a team killer and he dosen’t deserve a second chance

  • Peter griffin

    Shit fetish tube
