Amar’e Stoudemire to Miss 2-4 Weeks With Buging Disk in His Back

When Amar’e Stoudemire went down with a bulging disk in his back, there were fears in New York that his season could be over and that he’d need back surgery. That’s not the case, and the Knicks expect STAT back in a few weeks. Per the NY Post: “The Knicks have given a timetable for Amar’e Stoudemire, and they expect their star forward to return in 2-4 weeks from the bulging disk in his back. After a second opinion agreed with the Knicks original diagnosis, Stoudemire will undergo non-surgical treatment that will include an epidural steroid injection for the injury he suffered in the win over the Pistons on Saturday. The Knicks also announced that Jeremy Lin would not play on Wednesday against the Magic because of soreness in his left knee. It is the second straight game the point guard will miss. Stoudemire, who will fly back from Miami after meeting with doctors, could be back toward the end of the regular season and be ready for Round 1 of the playoffs if the Knicks qualify. And the Knicks are hoping to get Stoudemire in a couple of late-season games to prepare him for the postseason. The Knicks currently hold a 2 ½ game lead over the Bucks, who they beat on Monday night, for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.”

    good news

Considering he hurt his back in the off-season, hasn’t looked the same since, and now it’s hurt again. And given Amar’e's size and the fact that the Suns staff wouldn’t approve him for a 5 year contract because of “structural issues physically” i would say, this isn’t good news….even though it seems like it.

this is far from good news. back injuries are the kinds that subsist throughout an athlete`s career. just ask tmac. the only good news here is that its not knee problems which are even worse.

If he does come back in 2-4 weeks he’s not going to be effective. Might as well get surgery and sit out the rest of the season and come back next season “100%”

No Amar’e = good luck maintaining that playoff berth

wat’s the point of going to the playoff, it’s a 1st round sweep at the hands of the bulls

Agree with nbk. Sounds nice but no one knows how a bulging disk will respond no matter the treatment. Sometimes they do heal on their own, sometimes they need surgery, and sometimes they plague an individual for life. And basketball isn’t exactly real good therapy for that sort of thing.

I’m the unproud owner of several bulging discs. It sucks. Makes performance sparodic, your concentration hazy and your work ethic suffers enormously. I hope the guy knows for sure how much he wants to keep playing versus having a happy retirement.
