Antoine Walker Sold His NBA Championship Ring for $21,500

Former NBA star Antoine Walker’s rise and fall have been well documented over the years — here and elsewhere — and as he toils away in the D-League, Walker was forced to sell off the title ring he won with the Miami Heat in 2006 as part of his bankruptcy case. Reports TMZ: “Antoine Walker’s NBA Championship ring just sold for $21,500 … Walker — who won the ring as a member of the 2006 Miami Heat — filed for bankruptcy back in 2010 claiming he racked up more than $12.7 million in debts but had only $4 million in assets. According to court docs, Walker had to liquidate his property to pay back his creditors including his ring. [...] The ring has been tentatively sold to a guy named Andres Garcia for a cool $21,500. A judge needs to sign off on the deal before any money changes hands but we’re told it’s pretty much a done deal.”

The judge should require Antoine to do the “shimmy” before he hands the ring to the new owner.

Well….i dont’t wish ill will upon anybody..but yeah, it’s his own fault. The ring doesn’t make you a champion though..the acomplishment makes you a champion, can’t take that away form him

  • Heals

Deserves may be a bit strong to me, but to each their own…

Yeah, I can’t feel bad for someone who once had millions. Be smarter. It’s your on fault. Congrats to Garcia, another human who looks like he spends his money wisely.

  • abaci

@Bradlong you win for the first shimmy reference. my favorite shimmy moment was when he was with the heat and did a little shimmy on the floor

whats with all the “deserve” stuff?

  • Fresh Boirdee

I see a possible master card commercial from this. Blowing all you NBA money $120mil, D-League Contract $30K, Selling you Championship ring, $21K, your ex-fiance getting smashed by Chad Ochocinco, priceless!

  • dannyb

In all seriousness, who would want to own Antoine Walker’s ring?

  • ttc

just looked over at basketball-reference.com; apparently, the dude earned about $108,142,015 over 12 years!!!!! how could anyone feel sorry for him?!?

  • Justin G.

Yeah but after taxes he probably only saw about $60M so…

  • ClydeSays

Pretty crazy. 108 PLUS the big fat Adidas endorsement & dozens of smaller deals. Even if the taxman & agents & family & cars + houses ate up half or more of that, shouldn’t he still have 50-60 mil? I hope he has something put aside for himself. My favorite shimmy moment of all time was when AW turned to the crowd went into full shimmy after a 3 in a big game. Then he forgot to get back on D & the opposing team threw the ball upcourt right past him. Pierce or someone yelled to Antoine & he turned just in time to grab the ball as it was flying by his head. He took a couple of dribbles in from halfcourt & then jacked up a three. He missed it, of course. That was AW to me.

  • jake

Celtics should hire him to shimmy during halftime.

  • LA Huey

Why did he spend so many $100 bills? Because there are no $200 bills.

  • hushabomb

You do realise that he also tried to invest in real estate before the recession hit. Granted he tried to be a player yet he was also tryin to be smart as well. A lot of people lost money during that time.

  • Mooney10

Why do all these athletes go bankrupt? I hear almost every week some former pro player for multiple years goes broke, I don’t get it? How in the world do you go broke? You grow up with hardly anything, work your ass off to get somewhere and don’t know the value of a dollar, after years of making millions? This ish is pathetic, after one season of the pay this guy was getting I’d be set for life, learn to invest and stop buyin bling and ish…BRUTAL!

  • http://slamonline.com LR Finn

Maybe he should have spent it on rubbers – or child support for his 12 kids with 8 different women…….all well

  • CMinor

GOD Bless you…you were probably helping your family & others. Just remember that there’s a SILVER LINING. When you recover put GOD FIRST, and all other things will fall in place. Keep your HEAD TO THE SKY.

  • Ron C. Clark

My Name is Ron C. I own A 1996 Olympic Ring for the relay, I wouldn’t sell my ring for $1,000,000. Even if I was homeless. I meet this guy in Dallas where I live, when he played for Dallas. He had 5 cars porsche911, Benz SL500, Rover & Lambo. I had jette. Now he has…… what’s the DEAL. He should have bought a home cash. I can’t feel sorry for him.
