Cavs Trade Ramon Sessions to Lakers

Brian Windhorst reports that the Lakers have agreed to a trade Luke Walton, Jason Kapono and a 2012 first-round pick for Ramon Sessions and Christian Eyenga. The Lakers certainly need the backcourt help, but is Sessions enough for L.A. to return to its Championship-winning ways? Weigh-in at SLAM’s trade deadline live chat: “Cavs send Ramon Sessions & Christian Eyenga for Luke Walton & 2012 Lakers first rounder. LAL gets right to swap ’13 1st rounder w/Heat pick.”

Yes!!!! Luke is gone and we get backcourt help! Hold on I’m crying…

  • J-Shade

It’s certainly an upgrade at PG. And Ramon will be a solid starter.

  • RunNGun

    Queue the Star Wars music…

  • EJ

Trade for Beasley now. Fisher/Blake and MWP or something.

  • abaci

Hes not CP3, but he will help

Sessions is an undersized 2 guard masquerading as a 1.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    YESSSSSSSS!!!! GODSEND

  • anonymous

so, LA gives up a 1st-rounder for sessions? hmmm, ok?

  • Mike From Spain

sessions is just icing on the cake…. luke walton’s gone!!!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

BS Taylor. He is as much a Point Guard as Jarret Jack, or Derrick Rose is. He is 6’4″. He would play the 2 if that was his position.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

i remember a few years ago, more than a handful of teams were trying to sign him. for some reason he decided to join the wolves, who just drafted 3 point guards in the 1st round.
any doubt he WON’T be starting in the lakers uniform by April?

  • anonymous

@EJ minnesota does not want nor need fisher, blake, or artest; no team does. Unless the lakers have some more early draft picks, they`re not going to be able to do much of anything else. Nobody needs to be bending over backwards just to please the lakers. Memphis.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Wow, get rid of Luke, and then get Ramon? I’ll just hold my tongue. lol

  • T-Money

jtaylor: he is but when you play next to kobe (or lebron or wade), you don’t need to do point guard-like things.

Sessions is a quality player. Can run the pick and roll, which is Brown’s favorite play after the isolation.
This is a big deal. A game closing lineup of Kobe, Sessions, Gasol, Bynum and Peace, is dangerous.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Sessions can shoot, he can finish, he’s not afraid to fail. All the qualities he needs to play with Kobe.

Giving up a guy averaging like 1ppg for a guard good for 10 and 5 looks good to me. Got a feeling there’s another deal coming though.

  • Rainman

Lakers shud definitely pull the trigger on the 3 team trade bringing in Beasley for Blake now

  • Rainman

blake going to Portlant, Crawford to Min and Beas to LAL. As far as i knew, last night, it was almost a done deal…

  • Red Star

Phil wasn’t around to protect Luke anymore as he considered him his son. Oh well so long Luke, thanks for the memories! What a sec the only memories I have of Luke is watching him on the pine. LMFAO! We’ll miss you dearly buddy!

  • http://www.iowsports.com/ Blue

That’s gonna be a nasty fastbreak with Eyenga on the wing

  • golakeshow

yes!We finally got rid of luke walton

  • Jae

You guys are getting a nice point guard when he filled in for kyrie he put up more than 20 points more than once this season we wanted to keep him, but he wanted to stay too and probably opted out

  • hyperactive

I didnt realize luke walton was still in the L. nba teams have too many players on their rosters who have no practical use and are unqualified for their jobs. Walton should not be getting paid to ride the bench and provide his teammates with moral support – that`s what cheerleaders and fans are for.

JT, are you kidding? Do you remember his 24 assist game his rookie year? He’s most definitely a point guard, just put in a position where he’s needed to score. He’ll rack up assists on the Lakers.

  • AdamD

I think that Sessions is quite a savvy player and will certainly help the Lakers out. Still, i don’t know if this puts them back in the championship hunt.

  • Otis

So, um, what’s in this trade for the Cavs? It’s a steal for the Lakers — is Dan Gilbert bl*wing Jerry Buss or something?

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

what’s the reason for cavs making this trade? i can see they don’t need sessions anymore (kyrie is a certified stud already, though the only other 2 guards they have are boobie gibson and anthony parker), but why do they want an overpriced walton?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

It does Adam. It does. Why wouldn’t they be? They are great defensively. Should be darn close to great offensively after this trade and hopefully snaggin’ Beas from Minny. They have every starter from their back to back championship years. Which BTW (people seem to forget) was the year before last. Kobe has proven that he hasn’t lost a step and has maybe gained a step since last year. Bynum is as good as he’s ever been. Gasol is who he is. They are the best at the PG position they have been since The Glove was rocking Gold. They are with out doubt Championship contenders.

  • anonymous

The only potential valuable asset that the cavs got back was the 2012 1st-round draft pick which is what they wanted, I suppose. @albie how much is walton making? below MINIMUM I would think.

  • anonymous

    @LakeShow lmao.

  • bull22

    nice picc up

  • Luke

    Nooooo!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

walton is making 5.68 mil this year (2 year remaining on contract). so i’m puzzle why cavs would take this deal.

  • Steve

this is not bad. they didnt have to blow up the team. lakers keep kobe, bynum n gasol and now they have a solid point guard and possibily get beasly to come off the bench…ill take it. btw…clippers are fading!!!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

that 1st round draft pick from lakers will fall in the range of 20-25 (especially after the trade), and that’s what cavs want?

  • shawnkemp4prez

For the first round pick, fools. Read.

  • AdamD

No Doubt they are a good squad Lakeshow, and i do think that they probably have the best PF/C combo in the league and Kobe is Kobe. I mean i don’t know if i trust them to go the whole way ahead of say OKC, Miami or Chicago, i still see those guys slightly above. Championship hunt was perhaps the wrong phrase, because your right, they definitely have the chance. I would group them in with San Antonio, if things fall their way they could equally go the whole way.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

This is a huge trade for LA. As insignificant as it seems, Lakeshow is prolly right. Sessions can run an offense, and he can play defense! Which is the biggest thing LA needed. If Bynum Gasol are healthy (Kobe plays through everything healthy or not) then there offense will be ok enough to win on defense. They just couldn’t do that with Derek Fisher.

  • anonymous

@albie I guess that`s what they wanted? on the other hand, walton`s salary is a joke. @hyperactive you`re right. the cavs got a cheerleader for 5.68 mil.

  • neaorin

I’m not mad about the deal, just disappointed that Eyenga didn’t work out in Cleveland. I wish Sessions the best and hopefully Coach Brown can make him play at least passable D in LA.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

nbk i’m like a 9th grade boy that just hooked up with a 12th grade, big boobed cheerleader right now.

  • anonymous

although, this definitely improves la`s starting lineup, as any starting PG besides fisher would have done so, they still have no bench. Having a productive bench (ala dallas last season) plays a significant role when trying to go deep in the PO.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I don’t know anything about Eyenga besides he yams on mofo’s in the open court. Nice pickup also I guess. Unless they ship him out for Super Cool. Which would be ideal.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Haha I would be too. Watching Detek Fisher all year is like wearing the male version of a chastity belt

  • Rainman

^ well fishers jsut been traded, so u dont have to worry about that lol

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Rainman??? What?????

Luke is gone. About time……Maybe Jim Buss knows what he is doing after all. LOL.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Dammit, your right Rain… I’m going to miss the hell outta Fish. It wasn’t his fault he is old and useless. Love that guy. Wish the Lakers got Beas instead of Hill. Whatever, can’t be picky I guess.
