Chris Wilcox to Undergo Season-Ending Heart Surgery

Along with Jeff Green, Chris Wilcox becomes the second Boston Celtic this year to have his season ended by a heart problem. Reports CSNNE: “Wilcox had a series of routine tests conducted that were related to his heart. The findings raised a red flag, and additional tests had to be performed. ‘The doctors said I’m done for this year,’ Wilcox said. Later Wednesday evening, the Celtics announced Wilcox will undergo aortic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on March 29. According to the release: ‘A team of leading cardiac specialists who consulted with Wilcox and the Celtics indicated that surgery should completely repair Wilcox’s condition and that he can expect to resume his NBA career next season. Wilcox has long had an aortic abnormality that remained stable throughout his 10-year NBA career. However, as a precautionary measure, the Celtics medical staff scheduled frequent aortic scans for Wilcox, and a recent scan showed a significant enlargement of his aorta. After several follow-up tests, doctors recommended surgery. While we are saddened that Chris will not be able to play again this season, the most important thing is his health, and we were fortunate to have access to an amazing team of specialists to evaluate Chris’s case,’ said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. ‘The entire Celtics family supports Chris during this difficult time in his career.’”

No Wilcox, No J.O., and certainly no Shaq. What do the Celtics do? Get the Wisconsin Steamtrain to come in and get 8 and 8 last night. He’s playing with a sore foot right now, but as long as nothing is broken, Greg is getting minutes and has been a valued contributor off the bench for Boston. He’s actually bigger than Wilcox, whom I loved and thought he was having a great season with Boston. But lets face it, along with J.O, the Celtics have two expiring contracts that somebody will be interested in taking in a trade. Celtics need a healthy big guy who doesn’t have much left in his contract. It would be nice to pry away someone for the remainder of the season… either Chris Kaman or even Ben Wallace.

Glad the C’s staff found the issue. Best to Wilcox & his fanmily. Supposedly Powe is coming back to fill in. Hope they can pick up another big…

How is it that only the Celtics staff are finding these heart problems.. Wilcox was fine last year with Pistons and Jeff Green was fine also.

Beast coming outta Maryland. Get well soon.

Crazy as it may sound to others this was somewhat of a big loss for the C’s. Wilcox was sprinting in transition, making the little plays and buying into what Doc wanted him to do without ANY fuss. Much appreciated and see next year big man…
