Clippers Held a Team Meeting Following Loss to Phoenix Suns

After suffering what is arguably their worst loss of the season, the LA Clippers held a long team meeting last night to figure out how they can put a stop to their ongoing slide. From the LA Times: “The meeting lasted more than an hour, the media waiting outside of the Clippers’ locker room deep into the night. Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, who finally had one of his better games (11 points, nine rebounds) for a change, was sarcastic with the media after the meeting, saying they were ‘waiting’ for the media to enter, which finally happened at 11:05 p.m. Thursday. Kenyon Martin joked about the NCAA tournament. What wasn’t a joke was the Clippers blowing a 17-point lead to a Suns team that didn’t play starters Steve Nash or Grant Hill because Phoenix Coach Alvin Gentry wanted to rest his stars because the team was playing the second of back-to-back-to-back games. ‘It was very productive,’ Blake Griffin said about the meeting. ‘And it wasn’t a point-the-finger-at-somebody meeting. It was good … But it wasn’t about guys trying to get their feelings hurt, guys trying to hurt people’s feelings. It was about this is real. We’ve got a good team and we’ve got to do better.’ The Clippers are 9-11 since Chauncey Billups had a season-ending left Achilles’ tendon injury on Feb. 6 at Orlando. They have lost six games to teams that are currently under .500. ‘We talked about some things, but you don’t get to see if they come into fruition until you play,’ Chris Paul said.”

they r slippin’ hard right now, hopefully nick young can help (i know, i said hopefully) they really miss chauncey though, del negro is on the hot seat for sure

I’ve been saying this for the past couple of years: FIRE DEL NEGRO. He is not a good coach at all wtf.

  • bashmo

Yeah Del Negro is a bad coach. He has a serious lack of imagination in his half court sets and does not have the simplistic frame of mind to tell the perimeter player to CUT THROUGH when Blake gets the ball on the block. In addition to that he does not do a good job of managing minutes, as CP3 and Blake are usually exhausted late in the game.

@riggs he was for chicago tho

Chauncey Billups: one of the most underrated players of his generation.

  • riggs

@AD: if he was, he’d still be in chicago. (he wasn’t then either)

It’d be funny if some of the Clips players went and asked the front office if it were possible to trade coaches by the deadline. VDN’s days are numbered.

  • LA Huey

When we think about it, VDN was holding the Bulls back those two years.

Clips are vastly over-rated. Slipping hard now.

hahaha seems like only yesterday that the clippers were going to the western finals according to a ton of people. How good is Scotty Brooks the OKC coach? They are the best in the west now so no one is talking about getting a better coach. But if they were 3rd or 4th in the west people would say “they need a real coach” its easy to point fingers at the coach but they aren’t always the problem.

D’Antoni to coach the Clips next season, no question.

was nick young there to do terrible gang signs, talk bs, miss dunks, and throw up ill advised threes? Because that is exactly what you need after losing like that and realizing that your center and power forward can’t shoot a jumper. your starting sf is old, and your pg isn’t as clutch as he thinks he is? It just seems to me that noone really likes chris paul? but that’s just me reading body language.

ab40, No Nick wasn’t playing. He actually makes shots at a nice rate and can score on anyone. Gang signs and ill-advised shots aside, dude balls. The PF that can’t shoot(which I agree with slightly) made at least 10 distance jump shots last night. Dre Jordan you would never want him to take a jump shot even if he could shoot. You got to many good shooter out there to have Jordan shooting jumpers. Stupid. The starting SF… Butler yammed some hard ones down on the Suns. He also nailed jumpers and was dishing dimes and looks just like he did 4 years ago. You obviously don’t watch the Clippers. I don’t like them one bit, but they are uber-talented and just need to come together as a team.

I love Player Only team meetings. Do the Cats or the Wizards ever have player only meetings?
