Derrick Rose: Kevin Durant is the NBA’s MVP This Season

Takes one to know one, we suppose. The reigning MVP, Derrick Rose, says that Kevin Durant deserves the game’s biggest individual honor this year. From ESPN: “Chicago Bulls guard and reigning MVP Derrick Rose said Friday he believes Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant is the front-runner for this season’s award. ‘KD is playing great,’ Rose said. ‘I’m hearing about what he’s doing, hearing about how he’s playing. The numbers speak for itself, how he’s working out this summer, and he’s playing great basketball. (Minnesota’s Kevin Love) K-Love been putting in work, too, but I think KD.’ Durant is averaging 27.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Western Conference-leading Thunder. It figures to be a two-man race between Durant and the Miami Heat’s LeBron James, who’s averaging 26.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists and is shooting a career-best 53 percent. Rose, who was the youngest MVP in history at age 22, is unlikely to win the award again because of missed time this season. He has sat out 17 games because of a variety of injuries. He could miss his ninth straight on Friday against the Detroit Pistons with a sore groin. He’s listed as a game-time decision.”

If the numbers speak for themself then uhh no Kevin Durant isn’t the MVP. There is actually no rational reason to put Durant as MVP. If its best player on one of the best teams it’s LeBron. If its the most productive player on one of the best teams it’s LeBron. If its the player that means the most to his team winning then it’s Dwight. So……no, it’s not Durant.

  • ripslam

Durant is the best player on the best team in the best conference, is the most important to his team of the 3 top teams in the league, and destroyed LeBron in a head-to-head matchup. Not sure if any of these qualify as “rational reasons”…

  • http://slamonline Brion

^ Lets wait until OKC plays in Miami.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Best player on the best team in the best conference? The West is the best conference? And him being on a stacked team (they have good players throughout their whole rotation, even Nick Collison would be the best player on Miami’s bench) has no effect on this at all? You can’t have the best record in the league without having the MVP? that makes perfect sense. “there is no best team, you just have the most valuable player if you have the best record, teammates are irrelevant” is basically what everyone who says Durant should get MVP is saying. Other then that, the argument sucks. And for those that care about head to head match ups, how did that work out in the playoffs last year for the “mvp”?

Durant getting that first MVP! This signed, Durant Sonics Jersey on my wall will be worth allot more $$$ with multiple MVP’s so go get that son!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Hmm.. yeah what about last years match ups guys? Shouldn’t that play a part in this years MVP?……..

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

So now head-to-head matchups is a deciding factor in picking MVPs?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

not if you are a rational human being.

  • IrrationalLakersFan

Andre Bynum deserves it. He is the most dominant big man in the league by far and can score 50 points a night when he wants to. Kobe wont get it this year because everyone hates him for no reason. And with a Ramon Sessions, one of the top 5 point guards in the league in only his first season, Bynum has someone to set him up. Bynum=MvP. Metta World Peace=Defensive Player of The Year. Matt Barnes=Sixth Man. Ramon Sessions=rookie of the year. Kobe=10th ring this year. Laker Nation baby. We know what we are talking about.

  • will

well, kevin will be the scoring champ, adding an MVP will be sick too

and only 23… gonna be the leagues best for many years to come

  • Kabraham15

@ripslam…most incorrect viewpoint i have ever read.

  • IrrationalLakersFan

    China

  • lebron should win mvp and marion should win dpoy

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

What would happen if K-Love won MVP this year, by some mysterious late vote. Even Steve Nash would have to call b.s. on that.

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

I find it funny how not even a guy called irrational lakers fan is crazy enough to suggest Mike Brown could win coach of the year…says it all really!

  • http://www.dfhggf.com cheema

I consider that comment by rose as a slap to westbrook`s face! Westbrook is the best player on the thunder and rose is calling durant mvp? smh

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Derrick Rose doesn’t seem to like LeBron James.

    @Lakeshow
I can understand the hate after what he did to your team last night! LMAO

  • Balltastics2000

    obviously Durant is mvp.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Naw, Westbrook is great. I can just use my brain and eyes, so I know he is not as good as Durant. He is getting darned close these days though.

Durant’s going to have to add in some post game to the mix this summer, and work on the play making skills so he continues to improve also.

  • http://www.dfhggf.com cheema

    -lakeshow

surprised for you to say that, especially after what he did to your team last night!

  • http://www.dfhggf.com cheema

slamonline needs to fix their comments section, i couldn`t even see my comment after the 3rd time i posted it

  • LA Huey

Yeah, Teddy. That’s what this is about.
I’m not going to get into comparing records between their two teams because the difference is neglible when you consider that Miami has a target on their back.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

NBK is such a f*cking hater lol. Seriously.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Awh, i’m not a child. I can handle my favorite sports team losing a game.
    .
It’s the hard things in life that I have a hard time dealing with. Like, why is the remote always too far away from the couch, and stuff with real life consequences like that that are just to hard to handle…

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

LA Huey… You just said that Miami has a target on their back… The Thunder don’t? The Lakers don’t? Dallas doesn’t? The Bulls?
Geez what reality is this… Every team in the top 3 of each conference has a target on their back.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Holy Baller do you even know what that means?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

People dock Bron for Wade and Bosh but Harden, Westbrook and Ibaka are ignored? And everybody agrees Durant doesn’t defend it pass like Bron right?

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Lakeshow, if you can’t rationalize why teams are more focused against Miami then those other teams then…oh nevermind. You still think Durant should win MVP even though you dont have a reason.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

@NBK great comeback. All I know is that LeBron is arguably the best player in the game, and he’s in a starting lineup with two other guys that are probably both in the top 10. Durant doesn’t have the luxury of DWade throwing him alley-oops all game like LeBron does. He can’t pad his stats by getting dunks all the time because of the attention paid to Wade and Bosh. Durant is the most clutch player in the game this year, he’s the most consistent scorer, and his stats really aren’t that far off of LeBron’s in the first place.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

well, lebron has been playing mediocre for the past 2 weeks and kd annihilated lebron in their match-up.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Well that was such a terrible argument I’m not even going to address it.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

@Allenp, Ibaka, Westbrook, and Harden aren’t any of the top 10 players in the game though. Altogether they may equal a DWade or a Chris Bosh, but their combined talent and ability is not that of those two.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

    @NBK that’s what I’d say too.

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

You’re crazy if you think Westbrook is better than Durant. It would be a LOT easier to replace Westbrook than it would be to replace KD..

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

    @NBK that’s what I would say too.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

LeBron leads Miami in Points, Rebounds, Assists and Steals. He is scoring at the same rate as Durant (he’s just playin slightly less minutes) he’s shooting 53%. Durant is scoring more points. That’s it, that is the only thing he’s doing better then LeBron. Both teams have lost the same amount of games. Durant turns the ball over more than he gets assists infact he is 4th in the league in turnovers. LeBron leads the league in Win Shares. LeBron leads the league in offensive win shares. He’s 4th in defensive win shares. He is top 10 in offensive rating and defensive rating. Durant is ahead of him in nothing except PPG, and he’s attempted 150 more shots. Honestly try and think of one rational reason to say Durant has been more valuable on an equally (actualy moreso) talented team over the course of this whole season, not the last 2 weeks. And if you think Alley Oops are a fair and rational argument then well you can just join holy baller in the isn’t worth talking to boat cuz I’m not entertaining that stupidity.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

@NBK, you just completely sidestepped my whole argument about LeBron having Wade and Bosh. Good job at avoiding my point. And what is this whole “win shares” bullsh*t? Something new ESPN has come up with? Never even heard of that. Durant does turn the ball over more, you are completely correct there. But what happens when Durant has played Miami this season? Who’s looked better? Exactly.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

You cant read? You aren’t worth talkin to because you are ignorant. Is that more clear?

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Like my friend Skip has stated, Lebron has disqualified himself from MVP, playing with Wade and Bosh. If Lebron on Cavs and have these numbers he is MVP, not on Heat. Durant could be MVP, but I honestly feel Westbrook is more important to the Thunder success than Durant. I honestly feel this year the MVP should go to no one. No one player has stood out this year to me. Give the MVP to David Stern for his great trade this year. BOOK IT!!

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

@NBK lol the mark of a true internet troll, the inability to come back with a decent argument that’s germane to what’s being discussed. Fail, good sir. Fail.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

    ^^ SH*T

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

@The Seed, you had me until you said that Westbrook is more instrumental to the Thunder’s success than Durant. He IS a huge part, I agree. Without Westbrook, the Thunder are somewhere near where the T-Wolves are right now. But without Durant, they don’t have a shot. As much as I love Westbrook, Durant is the more important piece of the puzzle.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

my comment was for nbk… not for holly baller. btw. it’s hilarious that he underrates ibaka, harden, and westbrook so much.

    Lol.
    .
Read all of my posts on this page. And read your stupid ass argument. Oh nevermind. You are a genius, we should definitely give the MVP award to Durant for last Sunday and because he plays with a bunch of nobody’s while LeBron scores all of his points off of alley oops from Dwyane Wade. That is completely logical. An I’m a troll under a bridge.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

Lol I love how vehement you’re getting about this. I mean obviously it’s a close race. I’m not gonna say that Durant’s had a MUCH better season than LeBron; he’s just been a little bit better, in my opinion. My problem is when you think this is such a clear issue and think that LeBron is head and shoulders better, when obviously the majority of SLAM readers disagree with that. You think that your opinion is the best there is, and you attack me because of it. Ridiculous.
