Dirk Nowitzki: Mavericks Have Been Celebrating Championship All Season

Tomorrow night, Dirk and the Mavericks will return to Miami to face the Heat for the first time since both squads battled it out in the NBA Finals. Nowitzki doesn’t want his team to dwell on the past so much. Per the Dallas Morning News: “That is the site of Nowitzki’s and the Mavericks’ greatest triumph. It’s where they won Game 6 of last year’s NBA Finals to earn the first championship in franchise history. That night, Nowitzki hopped over the scorer’s table after the final buzzer and spent several minutes alone in the locker room, crying. ‘I don’t want to dwell too much on the past,’ Nowitzki said. ‘We feel like we’ve been celebrating all season. We didn’t get our ring on time, then we celebrated the banner, we celebrated the rings and every other day a player (former teammate) came in here getting a ring. So we’ve been celebrating a lot this year. We want to kind of put it behind us and move forward and hopefully have a good playoff run here. Yeah, it’ll be nice to go back to the scene of the crime, but we’ve got to move on and we’ve got to win a ballgame.’ Nowitzki was asked if he’ll wear his championship ring on the trip. He laughed. ‘No, that’s over,’ he said. ‘I’ve really only worn it like once or twice, really. I wore it to the symphony once, in swag to the symphony. Other than that, I didn’t wear it much.'”
