Lakers Trade Derek Fisher to Rockets

The Lakers have agreed to trade Derek Fisher and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) to the Rockets for Jordan Hill. Yahoo! has the report on this shocker: “The Lakers have traded Derek Fisher and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) for Jordan Hill, league sources tell Y!”

Huge bummer. One of those guys you just wanna see ride the pine on your team for all he’s done. Thanks D-Fish for all the great plays and hard nosed defense over the years. Much love for that fella.

startown… undecided. He is still a project. He’s athletic and has skills, but has never been able to put it together. He is better than Fish, and won’t be asked to do much so it is technically a good move.

ok, so rockets got too many centers and only dragic playing point (kyle lowry is currently injured), so they traded their 3rd string center for a 3rd string point guard? it must be for the draft pick. good move for the lakers, getting a big man to spell for bynum and gasol. i guess i can call this a fair trade.

  • anonymous

@startown no. gives the lakers some size and some energy. but no.

  • neaorin

Any chance DFish gets bought out by the Rockets and ends up elsewhere? Camby too for that matter.

  • abaci

for some reason i thought they would keep fish, i was wrong

  • BlackStar

I know business is business, but DAMN!!! How you gonna do Senor Fish Sticks like that? They should have pulled him to the side and let him know what would go down if he stayed around another year. SMH …

  • ClydeSays

I bet Derek was hoping to ride the bench in LA until he turned to dust…

  • fruizm

take that Fisher! that’s what you get for being a horrible negotiator haha!!

  • Videokirk

We love you D Fish. You will always be a Laker and a champion.

  • Michelle

Thats cold let him retire with the Lakers this year not this bs. He earned atleast that ffs. Kobe will not be happy with this

  • IamYOU

Well I guess Kobe will be so bummed about this trade.

  • T-Money

that’s why i’m never mad with players treating this like a business, no one asks teams to stay loyal to players. woj is saying rockets will explore a buyout. who could use fish? okc doesn’t have a back up pg… riles tried to get him in the summer of ’10… who else?

  • tomtom

There are things you don’t do, like trade one of ur best players to a conference rival who swept you in the first round. And you can add this to that list, Kobe will not be please whatsoever.

  • Paul H

Fish will be back In some form or another a year or two, coaching or admin. I really don’t see this as an act of disloyalty on the Lakers part, Fish Is done as a player and I would bet my house on his service being rewarded sooner rather than later.

    Biggest trade day shocker?

  • ScRp0t

Thanks for all the clutch shots and leadership over the years papa Fish!
Wish I could say I am shocked, but it is business and there is no loyalty in this league.
You will always be a Laker 4 Life in the true fans hearts!

  • http://slamonline.com Hepp

No LOYALTY AT ALL!ALL THE BIG SHOTS HE HIT AND HELP WON CHAMPIONSHIPS COULDNT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT HIM!D-fish keep ur head up!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Wow, I didn’t see this coming. With that being said, thanks for every moment you’ve steeped up in the clutch. Simply amazing. We’ll miss you, Fish.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Nick Young to the Clippers?? Niiiice pick up!

  • LA Huey

Didn’t see this coming. Fish knows more than anyone this is a business. He’s the leader of the union and he’s left LA for money in GState way back when.

  • IamYOU

@niQ I’m thinking of jameer nelson and turk for worldpeace or rondo for pau. now if this happens then the mayans are right, but then again i’m just thinking of ridiculous trades.

  • Rainman

@ lakeshow: that was a crazy 3 teamer

  • pwh

    Thrown under the Buss

  • BoWeezy24

Fisher Is Probably Going To Retire On Them… Crazy That Lakers traded Him.

  • Sparker

can’t help but think that was payback for something said during negotiations

  • djb

This is not about loyalty or disloyalty, this is about productivity. The nba is designed for players who have the necessary skills to be productive ON THE COURT. fisher no longer has the necessary skills to be productive and he should have retired after last season. he does not have anything else to offer as a player but I think he has something to offer as a coach, and that is what I expect him to do after this season: Coach.

  • BoWeezy24

I Think Fisher Has A Year or Two Left In Him. He Can Come Off The Bench and Mentor Other Young Guards.

  • gusisit

there is another trade that slam hasnt posted: clippers receive: nick young wizards recive: nene, brian cook, 2md round pick nuggets recive: javale mcgee, ronnie turiaf

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I’m really surprised the Rockets didn’t deal Kevin Martin. McHale has slowly but surely made Courtney Lee the closer at the 2 spot. Martin is averaging like 15 minutes a game now. They could have gotten someone good for him too (although I still really like him).

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I also wanted Pau Gasol in Houston! Damn.

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com Don

    Derek Fisher got played.
