Lakers Trade Derek Fisher to Rockets

The Lakers have agreed to trade Derek Fisher and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) to the Rockets for Jordan Hill. Yahoo! has the report on this shocker: “The Lakers have traded Derek Fisher and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) for Jordan Hill, league sources tell Y!”

See what happened to your boy? Keep your mouth shut and play ball!

Word to Lakeshow as a Laker fan I’m sad to see him go. I was hoping we kept him so he could come off the bench. That’s just the business.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Imagine if they traded Fisher to Utah…

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com NBA Head

He’ll be paid out and will resign with the Lakers next year to be retired a Laker. Book it!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

T-Ray, right. Sad to see Fisher go, but a really bright spot on the Lakers point guard situation now.
    -NBA Head, Hope your right.

  • toinefan88

Woooooooooooow, they are messing up the team yo

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    ^lol… What?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Yea def an upgrade hopefully we see some results in the playoffs and Kobe doesn’t have to work as hard to get buckets.

  • Waggle

Fisher not worth a 1st round pick imo.

  • Mick

Derek Fisher will ALWAYS be a Laker. Sad day for Laker fans. Fish will always have great memories for me forever…Fish, get into politics, you;ll get my vote…I know you will have a great career after NBA…Come back to LA, start as a councilman—you got a good head on your shoulders, good speaker, smart guy…Do good in Houston!

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

I hope my Lakers retire his jersey after everything is said and done.
    Derek Fisher is class.
    GM in the future?
    Team president?
    Coaching is beneath him.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    And, agree with T-Money.
The Thunder HAS to get him.
I hope Houston buys him out.

  • http://www.slamonline.com house

Would offering him vet minimum been an option?? I mean, he didn’t have many years left right?

I don’t doubt that Sessions, right now, is a more talented player than Fish . . . but building a great basketball team is about more than assembling talent. Trading Fisher rips the heart out of that Lakers team. Can you put a price on how much you sacrifice in leadership, how much you sacrifice in the clutch? Especially when Sessions won’t have the ball in his hands most of the time anyway? We’re about to find out.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Your right Dagger. I don’t like shipping Fish out one bit. He is their spiritual leader. He is the one that makes them want to play well and together. Kobe is more the enforcer and in game leader. Fish is the voice and the soul of that team. Odom was also in a much more sugar high, Hollywood way. Lakers need to have leadership step up on the team. I hope Sessions is a good leader, but I have no idea what he’s made of right now.

  • Jordan Burchfield

With such a deep draft, why would the Lakers send a first rounder to Houston

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

Pointless trade and just a lack of respect and loyalty to a player deserving of both.

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

bwahahahahaha. good job lakers. love it. screw loyalty guys. odom, pau(before nix) were dealt. fisher dealt. dont forget that amnesty. there’s a reason they didnt use it yet. saving it for kobe…

  • djb

The lakers must be going all in this season in thinking they can get to the finals with these final aquisitions because they have given away not ONE but TWO 1st-round draft picks to the cavs and the rockets. I seriously doubt la has any more 1st-rounders.

  • Shelly

I’m hurt. Sadden. Pissed. I think this is a bad move. I would have rather seen Steve Blake go. Not an OG.

  • CATHY TORRES

Another very sad day for the Los Angeles Lakers & their loyal fans! The Lakers Administration has no shame and shows no loyalty or respect for their veteran players! If the Buss Family has any brains at all, they will immediately, start working on hiring D-Fish, as their Coach! He would be an amazing Coach! D-Fish would actually, be amazing in any important position, due to the respect that other’s have for him, his excellent ability to clearly communicate with others and his knowledge and admiration for the game! I am sending, along with many other loyal D-Fish Fans, very Bright Blessings for the future, to he & his beautiful Family! I know that they will all be very successful, where ever they go in life! All the Best, Cathy

Again another good trade that people don’t understand. Jordan Hill > Murphy & McRoberts. Bynum gets a less detrimental rest every night. The defense doesn’t take any steps back. I really like what LA did today.

  • jake

Loyalty??? D.fisher left the Lakers and kobe to go to golden state. And then the Lakers take him back when his daughter was sick. They did not have to do that, but they did. They even started him. That’s loyalty!

  • djb

@nbk Agreed. hill > murphy & mcroberts: hill is a tall, athletic player who will give la energy coming off the bench probably averaging something like 7 & 5. So, this seems like a good move in the short-run for la but in the long-run they lost a 2nd 1st-round draft pick and a veteran player in fisher.

  • djb

    @jake thank you.

  • http://bedotwater.bandcamp.com BE.water

yo, doesnt anybody know that Kobe has a No-trade clause? he doesnt have to watch out for sheeeeeeit.

  • http://yahoo Micki

All the best to D. Fisher. What a wonderful role model for the younger
generation. I cannot believe he was traded. I have watched my last Laker
game and watching the other LA team. GO CLIPPERS.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Fisher you will be missed by real Laker fans, but it was time for you to leave. Have a great life.

  • stu

loyalty? fish bolted to golden state for mad coin in 2004, he knows what’s up.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Utah.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

A no trade clause..yess. But he can get amnestied….altough that would be rather idiotic, to pay kobe to play somewhere else. Is only vaIid for two season after this, and i don’t see kobe fallin of like that.
Jordan Hill is decent…session too, the Lakers def got better.

  • anonymous

@BE I know that. Im just not goin to go around correcting everyone when they suggest that the lakers should trade kobe when they cant trade him unless he APPROVES it. That would be tiresome.

  • BostonBaller

Fisher, heck of a player during playoffs AND Chip time….I loved to hate him. lol.

  • jags

the lakers won 3 championship with d.fish before he left LA for GS. then the lakers never got back to the finals before they acquire d.fish back.. they should have hold on to fisher. he is dependable in crunch time..

  • Kadavour

this is SOO good for the Lakers. Fish understands that this is a business. He will likely be back with the organization, but as a player he stifled this team for the last 2 years. Some may mention his clutch shots the last two years, but those wouldn’t be needed if he wasn’t getting BURNED on every time down the floor. If you want to cite loyalty, then what about Fish stepping down and allowing the Lakers to pursue younger talent and grow? Moving Fish and Walton is 2 years overdue, but it’s a good move.

  • The Yellow Mamba

D Fish will be dearly missed by the Lakers and us Laker fans. I hope Pau can step up and take the team leadership now that Fish is gone. Go Lakers!!!! Another championship is our only goal!!!

  • LAguneroFan

    RIP D Fish…

  • shaolin23

Dwade’s tweet (after dwight’s presser re: staying orlando) sums it all up: “loyalty hahahahaha”

  • MarcW

Damn..DFish definitely deserved better. Thought he might play out the season and retire with the purple and gold..

  • Startown

I mainly watch Twolves, but I don’t think Hill even played in any of three games against us??
Fisher is old, but he has 5 titles and makes some clutch shots,,,I don’t get this trade?

  • Michael

Theres no way the Lakers would pay Kobe 30 million to play for the Sixers. (Which would totally happen)

  • robb

    Jordan Hill?? i

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The Rockets can definitely use Fish for this stretch of games with Lowry out. After that, who knows? I’d like to see him play for them though, seeing as Flynn is gone and they don’t have a third point guard.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Jordan Hill is pretty solid. McHale did a lot of work on his confidence and post moves–he’s gotten a lot better since his Knickerbocker days. Don’t let D’Antoni’s irrational hatred of him cloud your vision, lol.

  • VanCityVibe

Good trade, Hes about to retire anyways

  • Cynthia Aguirre

@Kathy you are the only comment that had meaning very well said . Yeah maybe D Fisher is getting old ,but dammit let him retire his Laker Jersey like all the other Legends.. And yes he would make a wonderful coach or even assistant coach he knows the players so well… Derek Fisher good luck and u will not be forgotten D. Fish.. And all u negative people out there regarding trading Kobe, not, he is the LAKERS…..

  • Mikee

Yes JAKE The lakers didn’t have to do it for Fisher when his daughter was sick, they did it because Fisher took a HUGE PAYCUT!!!!!! At the end of the day it’s not about loyalty, its all about MONEY!!!!!!! WHAT A SHAME!!!! I am no longer a laker fan!!! I think they are DOOMEEDDDDDD. What comes around goes around, remember the DODGERS
