LeBron James: Derek Fisher Wouldn’t Be a Bad Fit in Miami

Free agent Derek Fisher is looking to join a contender, and the Miami Heat are one of the teams reportedly on the veteran guard’s short list. LeBron James says that he wouldn’t mind teaming up with Fisher. From the Sun-Sentinel: “ESPN reported the Heat are on Fisher’s short list of possible teams. The others are the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. James said he would be open to Fisher joining the team if the Heat chooses that option. ‘One thing you know about Derek Fisher is that he’s a winner,’ James said after Monday’s practice. ‘He’s not afraid of the moment and he’s won multiple championships. I don’t know what our plans are but I don’t see it as a bad fit if it happens. What we have we’re comfortable with, but he could fit anyone’s team because of his leadership and his commitment to winning.’ Fisher met with the Heat when they signed James and Chris Bosh two summers ago. He ultimately decided to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won five NBA titles. The Lakers last week traded him to the Houston Rockets, who then bought out his contract. Fisher wanted to play for a contender instead of the struggling Rockets.”

“One thing you know about Derek Fisher is that he played on a team with Kobe Bryant”

Lebron *looks at Fishers career highlights* “someone who will take the shot in the 4th quarter? He’s in!”

  • Rik Smits Mullet

I rather see turiaf in a heat uni. derek fisher is great for veteran support but we already got howard waving his towel on the bench.
This trade would essentially be the same as the mike bibby trade last year.
at least for bibby he was starting. but i dont see fisher starting over chalmers especially on the defensive end. I think dfish is a great great player would should have retired on the lakers bench.
    OFFTOPIC question for kobe fans.
If dfish would sign with the Heat and the heat would win the title. Which would give DFish 6 rings. Would he be better than Kobe? Or does the “Kobe has 5 rings so he is better then your favorite player” argument only work in Kobe’s favor???

Haha maybe LeBron is just outsourcing the responsibility for taking clutch shots. If they’ve got Derek Fisher in there, people won’t criticise him as much for passing on the final possession.

  • C-Mac

Damn, c.a. beat me to it!

F1SH SHULD GO BAK 2 LAKERRSSSS!!!!

  • ClydeTheGlide

Maybe if he heads to Miami he could convince LeBron to shave his hairline… time to come home LeBron, time to come home.

  • Paul H

It would be interesting to see what sort of reception he would get In San Antonio!

is gregor and stepfan the same person?

  • Mike From Spain

Fisher has great leadership. And Lakers insider’s information. Maybe Lebron could learn a thing or two from the inside workings of a multiple championship team from Fish. Fish was able to check Kobe’s ego from time to time, so he’d have an easy time of juggling with the three egos of Lebron, Wade and Bosh. Seems easy in comparison. Signing Fish is like signing another assistant coach.

@ spit hot- WE ARE ALL THE SAME PERSON. By the time this posts, I could be you! Who knows, on the internet…

Lebron: Tell me all of the Laker’s secrets!

  • Lion O

You guys are just comedians, you all be cracking me up steady. And Yeah, Fish would be a fitting addition the EL Heat

  • Ash

I think we are fine at that position

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Fisher is from Little Rock, Arkansas, and Oklahoma City is very close by, in fact only a 5 hour drive. I think Fish will choose the Thunder. He gets to play on a contender close to home. Simple as that.

  • trueballer4life

the heat should pick up fisher and jj hickson!, get rid of cuury and pippen

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @trueballer
JJ hickson is close to signing with GSW.
I would like the heat to sign Turiaf better then all of the scrubs playing behind joel anthony.

If a roster spot is worth what Fisher provides off the court, then sign him. If you want him to actually play minutes on your team, then well, no, he doesn’t fit.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @nbk
there is a roster spot free because mickell gladness got waived.
but why sign another pg when we need a center.

  • http://www.tampax.com doyouwantmore

Lebron won’t be satisfied until the Heat just trade someone for a year’s rental of the Larry O’Brien trophy. He’ll be like: “I really think the trophy is going to help us become champions one day. I think it was a smart trade and this team is headed in exactly the right direction.”

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I didn’t say I would sign him, but I don’t travel with the team, or know the players on any sort of a personal level. There is no telling what Fisher could mean for them off the court. Kind of like what David West provides for Indiana, dude isn’t that good on the court anymore, but his leadership and veteran presence are very very valuable to that team. Fisher could provide something like that, especially with those 5 rings.

  • bike

Fisher would be able to explain the intricacies of the Collective Bargaining Agreement to the Heat players. And he would lend a sympathetic ear to Bosh’s internal struggles.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @nbk
True, But Juwan Howard already provides some veteran presence. dfish could be valuable but i rather have the heat pick up a more mobile big with some offensive game. At least more then Curry or Pittman. Not like spo would ever let them off the bench.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Who though, it’s not like their is someone available. The best available big man is Leon Powe. (and Juwan Howard is a veteran, but he has never actually won anything. LeBron has more career/team success then him)

  • Rik Smits Mullet

Ronnie Turiaf is still in the running. last thing i read Celtics and Heat are front runners. I like Leon Powe but he is not the biggest guy at 6,8.
At least he brings a lot of hussle and a couple of points.
True about howard maybe dfish and howard can both wave there towels on the heat’s bench.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

haha I honestly don’t know what I would do if I was them. idk if they really “need” anything to win a title.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

Its not like the “need” anything, but the “could” clearly use another big.
the only thing the Heat really needs is a dominant Lebron in the playoffs.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    agreed

  • Balls

double agent fish, bring the trash on bron after you get the 6th

  • Gregor
