Photo: Raptors Unveil Commemorative Camouflage Jerseys

When the Raptors host the Bulls on Wednesday’s “Canadian Forces Night” in Toronto, they’ll be wearing the first camouflage jerseys in NBA history, to honor the Canadian military. Jose Calderon and DeMar Derozan modeled the jerseys on Monday, as you can see below. It’s not the first of the Raps’ interesting experiments this season, and the League’s only team from Canada is certainly forward-thinking. But what do you think of the new unis?

Not bad. Reminds me of the ones UNC and MSU wore at the first of the season. Like the thought.

  • PB

Brutal. It’s a shame that MLSE thinks it necessary to align itself with Canadian and American imperialism abroad.

this looks cool but will not change anything. No matter what my hometown raptors do they will never be on a national televised game. So far this season the bobcats and the nets had several already. Raptors didn’t have 1 since Chris Bosh almost beat Kobe in March 2010. you better fix this Stern, there are 30 teams in the league not 29

  • LA Huey

Brad Miller and Chris Kaman are wishing they were Raptors right about now.

@pb name me once that Canada went to create an ‘empire’ abroad. The only times they have fought were boer war and ww1 because they were a colony. Ww2 because they were British allies. Korean war and Afghanistan were more peacekeeping than anything else. Do research before you comment please

    Those are bummy

  • SikhWitIt

@ Jimbo – They deployed a small contingent of forces for the 2003 Iraq War contrary to what many think. Nevertheless, I think your point stands.

Afghanistan is not a peacekeeping mission and neither was the Korean War. Canada has a lot more to do with imperialism than you’d think, Jimbo. They participated in NATO’s bombing of Libya, for one. Starting in 1975 they supported the Indonesian occupation of East Timor, in which 200,000 East Timorese were massacred(the US was the biggest supporter of the Indonesian military but Canada still played a role). Canada didn’t fight in Vietnam which is commendable but usually the government (especially under Harper now) is a strong supporter of imperialism. Not in a leading role like the US and Britain, though. More of a bit part… Which is probably why it’s still somewhat safe to travel with a Canadian flag ;) .
And of course there’s the oppression of First Nations peoples and the Metis here at home, roles in the IMF and World Bank, and constantly voting against Palestinians at the UN and supporting Israeli aggression/expansion.

    What is MLSE?

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I already saw these on NBA 2K12

  • buschfire

MLSE = Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment which is the group that owns manages the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC (MLS), and the Toronto Marlies (AHL)

MLSE is owned by Rogers Communications (which owns the Toronto Blue Jays) and Bell Canada.

@Teddy the first nations are a dark spot on our history. The only reason why Canada entered the Korean war was because the UN asked the nations to intervene to prevent a global crisis. NATO is more than one country. If NATO does something Canada is obliged to ‘help’ thru alliances. About the Israeli’s it’s because if they supported the Arabs, America would be pissed off. But I understand your point.

  • Canesta

    Canada has a military??? hahaha

  • Canesta

@Teddy-the-Bear, you can’t be serious, “Israeli aggression/expansion”?? Seriously? That statement is not even close to factual.

  • IamYOU

I wish they were rocking this before with vince..

  • rob stewart

    Master P would be proud

  • Top$helf

Those are fresh now I got a reason to actually cop a Raptors joint

let’s stop the war talk nothing good never comes of it. i hope the united empire of america doesn’t attack iran either. peace is free

  • @ZE35

Anybody know if these are going to be for sale?????

  • ClydeSays

How about pairing them with Hunter Orange sneakers & caps? Seriously ugly. But I guess the Raps have to do something to stay, uh, newsworthy…

  • Mega

@mubwar – peace aint free buddy boy, if ur in a free country then people gave their lives for your freedom. Totally insulting comment you made, oblivious or not. You should do some research on the land u call home.

    Make ‘em say Ugh!!!

  • Armando

@Teddy: Refreshing! All valid arguments. I am with you. @Canesta: How is that not even close to factual? Military occupation of the West Bank, the settlements, and that’s far from everything… if that’s not close to expansion or at least aggression I sure don’t know. But this is a hoops related discussion: the unis are ugly.

they’re hoping it could help them get more sneaky backdoor baskets.. =D but really, cool commemorative idea..

I think the all the raptors should have to play with the dinosaur head on, like some nba jam type ish. Unis are ok, would rather have seen some digital urban camo like my ps3 controller or since its Canada some spec ops snow camo would be dope

    loool shutup shut up please

as if calderone wasnt invisible enough on defence……

  • http://www.slamonline.com Dagger

Yet another sign of the increasing militarism of Canadian culture. As a Canadian, it’s sad to see. And beyond that: those uniforms are damn ugly.

  • yes.we.did.

I like these. would be nicer if the Raps were better though.

  • rlz

Prison Guard uniforms are up next.

  • LA Huey

riz, Bobcats would be be more appropriate for that.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

@Dagger: the MLSE would like to apologize for recognizing the soldiers who have fought for our country. They only gave up their lives, nothing big.
