Report: Blazers Waived Greg Oden

According to an ESPN report, the Greg Oden Era in Portland has come to an end. The top overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft has reportedly been waived. Wow: “Source with knowledge of Blazers’ thinking says team has informed Greg Oden’s camp that Oden is being waived for needed roster room after deals.”

Sad all the way around. are the heat going to pick him up?

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

He had a fairly big contract right, can the heat afford to pick him up? If a players waived, their contract details are the same if another teams picks them up right?

  • anonymous

It had to be done. You can`t continue to pay someone for rehabilitation. It just had to be done. I would have done it sooner because he seems to be one of those players who will NEVER be able to stay healthy for long lengths of time.

  • RedRum

I am sad to say but I think GO should go back and finish his degree… I hear he is a great kid, but he cannot be a basketball player any more..

  • abaci

I don’t know what happens to your contract after your waived

Oden still gets every penny from his contract but it comes off the team’s salery cap/luxurey tax.

  • ripslam

I’d take a flier on him if I was another GM. Granted, he’s now had three microfracture surgeries, including two on one knee, but he was beasting when he was healthy.

  • abaci

@Boing i see, thanks for the info

  • roybot

Please make Paul Allen regret this decision by being healthy and ripping the league up in the future.

it could be that the heat pick oden up. If they can afford it. I know lebron always is supporting oden since his ohio state days.
But do the heat really need another center sitting on the bench in a suit next to eddy curry. If he is healthy he would be perfect for the heat. Would be nice if some miami weather would fix those micro fractured knees.

How many picks do they have in the 2012 draft? And what is their roster now…felton(free agent?) batum ( free agent)…who the hell is their small forward again? Okur is okay i guess..aldridge is beast..matthews is decent, not much after that. Jeesh….

Question of the day: If you had to be one of them, who would you rather be? Greg Oden or Adam Morrison?

  • Rik Smits Mullet

haha i would choose the one time moustached nba champion adam morrison at least he is capable of still playing basketball. Plus i take adam morrison s wacky looks over oden senior citizen look. Adam morrison most have at least kissed a girl once.

  • Mtothes

Remember when he got caught for nude photos? I bet bill russel shows people the pic and says its himself.

  • Matt Park

^The first image for Greg Oden on Google Images is a picture of him in boxers with the caption “GREG ODEN NAKED NUDI…”

  • bobbyD

@LLC#12. His contract was renegotiated at the beginning of the season. I think he’s making less than $2mil.

Phoenix should pick him up, their trainers might make another miracle happen.

  • burnt_chicken

The Suns health staff is rubbing their collective chin and striking a Rodin pose as we speak, no doubt…

    Sam Bowie 2.0…

Thanks bobbyD. At that kind of price he’d be a decent gamble for a lot of teams

GOden with no knees is better than Joel Anthony with 10 knees.

  • @Deknowz

2015 Phoenix Suns MVP Center. lol

Heat should make a run at him. Low risk, high reward.

I say he pulls a Bill Walton and goes to the Celtics

Guaranteed dude gets another 3-4 years of NBA contracts even without playing another game.

    What!? Why?!

  • Jub_Al

Durantula would’ve looked sooo good in a blazers jersey…

He’s gotta go to Phoenix, no other team has such a good track record with rehabilitating and managing knee problems. It’s the fountain of youth or something over there.

  • el_larsen

phoenix for rehab and then come to deetroit

  • JoeMaMa

He really has to go to Phoenix. He needs rehab. Phoenix is well known to provide cutting edge, quality rehab work. Even if he gets paid peanuts: Sign a 2 year deal, get the legs together, get some game touches, and then RESIGN WITH PHOENIX.

@Rik Smits: Ammo looks ‘wacky’ to you? Do you live in Pleasantville or something?

  • ab40

Portland has f’ed up Oden, Brandon Roy and to some extent Darius Miles his knees. Their medical staff probably uses principles from the 50s? it’s terrible to see so many players go down there. I hope he goes to Detroit or Phoenix, they have the best training staffs. I’d like to see him in Boston IF he plays next season or in Chicago where there are bigs to go around and the pressure is low. They’ve got trouble with bigs who are you know big and can play and I think he’d be ideal in that situation while building his career back up.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    I think that’s it…

  • Jerry Lin

This was bound to happen. It was just a matter of time.

  • Bye Kevin Durant

Y´all don´t understand how a waiver works. After a player is waived by his team any team can pick him up under his original contract. In this case the original team is free of his contract, salary cap hold and monetary obligations. (If more teams claim him on the waiver, there is a waiver order that determines who gets him). After he cleard waivers (meaning nobody wanted him on his og contract). The player becomes a free agent but his og contract still counts against his old teams cap during the life of the contract (it´s actually quite similar to the amnesty process).

  • quest

i hope he makes portland regret it hes still seven feet tall with a high IQ for the game, which is more than we can see about a lot of guys

  • Bawse

He already made portland regret it @ quest. He wasted 4 years of their seasons on the bench giving them false hope. BUYER beware NEVER take a guy who is hurt in high school b.c they will always be hurt ( Shaun Livingston I am talking about you as well). High School your body can fall down 3 flights of stairs and bounce up after a minute. If you are hurt then you will ALWAYS BE HURT>

  • smoove

he needs to see the doctors that fixed kobe and bynum

  • jimmer

@Philo, I’d like to believe in a Phoenix fairy-tale, but i think you’ve nailed it there. Read on a Suns board that Oden’s problem is ‘congenital, one leg longer than the other… unable to cope with continuous athletic stress’ usw.
