Report: Knicks Exec Pushing to Trade Carmelo Anthony

According to the NY Daily News, a member of Knicks owner James Dolan’s inner circle is pushing for the team trade away Carmelo Anthony — reasons being financial, and basketball-related — but he’ll have a hard time convincing the guy in charge to pull the trigger: “Part of that thinking is Jeremy Lin’s meteoric rise from anonymous bench warmer to international phenomenon. ‘Linsanity’ has created a financial windfall for the Knicks unlike anything they’ve seen before. The second-year point guard is a one-man money making machine for the Garden, which is experiencing a significant spike in ticket sales, ratings and merchandise since Lin became a household name in early February. There is a feeling inside the organization that it makes business, and to a lesser degree basketball sense, to severe ties with Anthony, the perennial All Star who has struggled since returning from a groin injury. The Knicks are 2-8 with Anthony back in the lineup including a six game losing streak. The source would not reveal the name of the executive pushing to trade Anthony but the Daily News has learned that Anthony still has two formidable allies in his corner; Dolan, the Chairman of Madison Square Garden and MSG President Scott O’Neil, who both played significant roles in bringing Anthony to New York. According to a source, Dolan is not ready to give up on his signature acquisition. In fact, Dolan has let it be known that he does not intend to move any of his top players prior to Thursday’s trading deadline. ‘He said he’s not trading anyone,’ said the source, with direct contact with Dolan. ‘He said it’s up to the coach to figure it out.’”

If that Dwight for Melo trade is for real, they need to pull the trigger. Like now.

Why not ship him to the Lakers so he and Kobe could kill each other over shots and rid the league of two ball hoggin’ bit*hes?

  • http://kobebeefnba.com LDR4

Isiah might as well still be in charge if this is how the organization is splitting.

The Knicks are and always will be about marketing over basketball. There is no way they trade Melo unless it’s for someone of equal or lesser star-power, even if it makes more basketball sense.
Regardless, Melo is one of the great basketball talents of this generation. I’ve been rooting for Jeremy from the start but there’s no way any team should be shipping Melo to make room for him.
I just can’t wait until the Knicks throw 10mil/year at Lin when his contract expires and revert to their old habits.

    Sorry guys, *equal or greater

TRADE MELOW FOR DANILO AND MOZGOV THEN SIGN WILSON CHANDLER…. THEN JUST SIGH D.HOWARD NEXT SEASON…. SIGN PHIL JACKSON WE HEAR DYNASTY RYT?

If Kobe thinks Melo is a good fit then you better becareful of what he wish for. I think catastrophe if he goes and play with Kobe.

  • abaci

man the knicks are a joke at every level

I feel bad for Knicks fans. This organization is a mess.

  • dazzy

    Howard for Melo and Chandler!

    COME TO THE MAGIC

Ok, so you sign Amare who has alway’s been successful in the pick and roll then turn him into a jump shooter. You rid your team of quality players, even through melo was going to sign there in the off-season. Then you have melo stand on the perimieter like he’s Q-Rich or Casey Jacobson. Now your floating trade rumors to the media? *slow clap* Bravo Knicks, Bravo! Having Amare and Melo playing the way their playing in that offense is like signing Randy Moss and Jerome Bettis in their primes and telling Moss to run 5-10 slants routes over the middle and Bettis running sweeps and half-back counters while praising Keyshawn (jeremy lin) for catching bombs. No wonder they haven’t won a title since 71. Stay classy Knicks

Knicks are the epitome of franchise in disarray.

Being a Melo fan, I never thought him going to NY was a good decision. He and Amar’e would never work and now since Linsanity has started he’s been getting the cold shoulder. I think it’d be in the Knicks best interest to fire D’Antoni and consider trading Melo. They had a good thing going before he came and Amar’e was looking like an MVP early last year. Let it play out some more and then look into trading Melo. If day trade him for JRich, Hedo, and a mess of draft picks or a trade exception. Not star power but two key role players that would play well with a great young point guard(jameer and now Lin) and a star big man(from Dwight to Amar’e). Magic get a star to help keep Howard and they’d compliment each other well in the fact that Melo is a shooter/scorer and a play maker.

A big shout out to all that predicted this prior to ‘Melo returning. I still cannot fathom how an All-Star forward–at least he used to be–returning to the lineup could bring a team to its knees.

  • fdred

    “reasons being financial, and basketball-related”

Are there other reasons available? like what else could it be? sexual?

  • Drig

And demand is actually hiking up the prices at MSG to watch this team?!?! Lin might be the worst thing that ever happened to NYK if they let go of Melo. Honestly. They’re one great coach away from being…….I dunno, good???

  • bull22

eboy stole all of my thunder because laughter is what i brokeout in when i read this article. knicks need to trade melo and can d’antoni and then move forward. i predicted the knicks to be in 3rd place when they signed chandler and they have no excuse for the state they are in. as one analyst put it shamelo is an elite scorer but not an elite player.

  • @whiteboyfresh3

Couple of Blockbuster Deals that will make all teams involved better in the long run. Both trades work Salary Cap wise. New York Recieves: Dwight Howard
Orlando Receives: Carmelo Anthony New York Recieves: Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams
Atlanta Recieves: Amare Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert and Tony Douglas Why this makes sense for NY: They need to part ways with Melo. They have a good point guard in Lin and a good defensive big guy already in Chandler. By trading away Melo, they get back the best Center and defensive player in the NBA to put along side Chandler, who could then play PF (to form the best defensive frontcourt in the NBA) as Chandler is more of a face up post anyway when he’s not in transition. Melo is a ball stopper and while he is a franchise player, he plays halfcourt ball and the Knicks need to Run to get the best out of Lin and Chandler. The salaries match for both Anthony and Howard.
Next, trading away Amare for Joe Johnson will give the Knicks a go to scorer who gets it done and is not a selfish player like Carmelo. The Knicks also get Marvin Williams, a long 3 man who can fill the void of Carmelo at the 3 spot. The Knicks would then Have a starting line up of
    1- Jeremy Lin
    2- Joe Johnson
    3- Marvin Williams
    4- Tyson Chandler
    5- Dwight Howard
Bench: Landry Fields, JR Smith, Novak, Jefferies Why Atlanta does it:
Marvin Williams wants to be traded and Joe Johnson has not been his moneys worth in Atlanta thus far. By trading for Stoudemire, ATL moves J-Smoove to SF giving them a front line of Horford, Stoudemire and Smith. This also gives them the luxury of being able to trade Smith for other pieces since they have Amare at PF. ATL also gets a backup guard in Douglas and a future stud in Shumpert. Why Orlando does it:
They are not going to get any thing better than Carmelo Anthony (arguably a top 5 player) for Dwight Howard. I am not a Knicks fan but this is what I would want if I were. These moves would make the Knicks have a much better TEAM as the pieces would be much easier to fit together.

How long until someone compares 2012 Melo to 2008 Kevin Martin?

  • Waggle

    This is all so entertaining!

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

whiteboyfresh3: No chance Orlando gives up Dwight just for Melo. And top 5? Bron, Dwight, Kobe, Rose, Durant, Wade, Deron, Paul, Love, and Westbrook are all outperforming him this season.

    @fdred HILARIOUS!! and true
Wow..I didn’t think that a year from now this would be the Knicks with Melo. As much as ISo ball was the name of his game in Denver, the complimenting pieces here were better than that of NY. And trying to run the offense through him, but his constant drifitng off course( doin his own thang) makes it impossible for Lin to be obedient to D’antoni’s system and appease Melo. Melo can score. he’s good, no denying it, but if last season with the Heat losing in the finals and the LAL being swept taught us nothing then we will continued to be shocked by this.. i’m reading the Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons ( great read for all who haven’t done it yet) and he talks about Isiah Thomas talking about the “secret” and how it has little to do with basketball. team chemistry and knowing your niche is absolutely the key to winning in this league. Individual talent and no cohesion amounts to little or nothing.

I bet Dolan is kicking himself even more about not aquiring the Jazz about if Deron was available now than he was last year right after the jazz traded him lol

    wow what a non-article.

    False.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

    I like whiteboyfresh’s trade tho

  • B.C.

Anyone Carmelo goes he’s going to make the team worse. He’s not a team player period don’t care what no one says. The only team that was fit for him was the Nuggets because he was the main guy and could take 30 shots and not get blamed for it. #MeloIsAteamKiller.

  • Golakeshow

Melo is an overrated moron. Does anyone think this idiot can keep up with Kobe and Lebron? They might as well amnesty his @ss because with the stupidity in Denver and now this who the hell would want him? The Knicks are crazy if they think this fool is worth Dwight Howard! Even with amare and Lin this dumb@ss still cant win $hit. To all of you that say he is coming to the Lakers I hope you are wrong

  • hmw

Apparently, it improves a team not when they acquire Melo but when they get rid of him. Until they do, Knicks will not make playoffs. The Knicks are a much better team without Melo.

  • hotheat

Melo is never gonna win champs

  • http://slamonline.com bambam

And here we go again with all this knicks crap what they need to do is SELL!!!!!!! the stupid @ss team to Walt Disney and let Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck run everything b/c everdently Nobody knows what the HELL the’re doing.Seriously year after year its the same crap. I’m born and raised in NY and will never be a knick fan they SUCK COW NUTS! that whole organization just SUCKS! they should change their name to the “VOMIT GANG” b/c they smile like puke. CAN I GET AN AMEN!!!!!

  • Stormwolf

    @Golakeshow,

You have an IQ of 3. It takes an IQ of 4 to grunt!

  • Derrick

I love my Knicks but they made a big mistake letting the best point guard they had in a very long time go for nothing getting a fat and out of shape Felton how dum was that you build around a young and up coming Lynn it’s no doubt that was a unforgivable move not to resign j Lynn come on Knicks y’all better than that we will have a hard time making the playoff with the team we have now Anthoney don’t like to play team ball he is all about getting his points to make the all star team every year with his buddy’s who in NYC can’t see that we had somone to control the team and now you let him walk who is more happy Camello Anyhony of course he likes the spot lite on him my Knicks made a big mistake

  • KeDu

    AMEN!

  • TradeMELOgetLIN

    Exactly!

  • Mackenzie

I know this is late but it’s pretty ridiculous to think Melo could immediately be a force again after his mid-season injury, which takes him out of usual rhythm and schedule, plus he had to adjust to play with multiple point guards (including being forced into that role himself) over the course of the season. It’s amazing how critical people will be of him if he has a few “average” games per se over a week’s time, despite the fact that he’s proven time and time again to be a top 5 scorer in the league and an underrated passer and rebounder. People need to let him play, it’s not like he trying to lose games for this team… I strongly believe Melo can win this city a championship. When he’s on his A+ game he’s unstoppable from anywhere on the floor.

  • mr basketball

they should trade the exec to the developemental league

  • Allen Iv3rson

Lol you guys were all wrong.. Melo is having an amazing season, he’s picked up on defence, his team are winning and hes in the run for an mvp title..
