Report: Kobe Bryant Wants Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom Back on the Lakers

According to an NBA.com report, Kobe Bryant is working behind the scenes to try and see if there’s a way for him to re-unite with former teammates Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom next season: “Kobe Bryant is planning a hard push to recruit Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom back to the Lakers as free agents in the summer, a source familiar with Bryant’s thinking told NBA.com as Fisher prepares to return to Staples Center as a member of the Thunder. Whether either would be receptive is unclear – Fisher and Odom loved their seasons in Los Angeles, but were hurt to be traded within the last 3 ½ months. It is known, however, that Bryant plans to use his close friendship with both to convince them that a reunion is in everyone’s best interest, bruised egos and all. Management — unable to comment on interest in players on another roster — will have to be convinced as well. [...] Bryant has kept in contact with both, though he said conversations center on personal matters and not basketball. He has kept in particularly close contact with Fisher, part of the Bryant inner-circle like few others, and says, again, they have not talked about what happens in free agency. Still, it is clear from people with knowledge of Bryant’s thinking that he will be lobbying to have the two very popular former Lakers return to the fold. Asked about the possibility late Tuesday night, after the Lakers played in Oakland, of a reunion with Fisher, Bryant said, ‘I don’t know. I would hope so. But I don’t know. When Fish and I talk, it’s about personal things because we’ve known each other for so long. Lamar too. We keep that other stuff out of it. It’s family, how are you doing, stuff like that.’ Has he talked to Odom about the idea? ‘No, not about that, because I don’t want to interfere with what he has going on in Dallas,” Bryant said. ‘Right now, it’s just more about him being OK and making sure that he’s doing what he can to help the Dallas Mavericks out.’”

Not surprised that he would want them back, cause they have been playing together for a while.

  • Mike Mihalow

I’m just glad he’s not requesting LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

Fisher should only come back in a coaching/front office capacity. Lamar had his head on straight when he played with the Lakers.

  • Rasheedionics

Isn’t Kobe interfering with what Lamar doing in Dallas by making this statement public?

  • T-Money

so fish is in kobe’s inner circle but has never been in his house in 15 years. ok.

You know that feeling when you walk past your favorite store and you see a Huge sign saying “EVERYTHING ON SALE FOR $10!” only to notice after you have already entered there was a small fine print of *from…..its this whole title & article.

I see Fisher hitting a big shot for the Thunder in the 2nd round at the Staples Center. Which La La Land team will it be that gets sent home fishing… Clippers or Lakers?

  • l2ising Phoenix

bring odom home, to the Knicks! :D , he would be a. Ideal foward on the Knicks…

  • Jer Dawg

Well, at least Kobe has 2 friends. Everyone else he hates.

  • Jerry Lin

Derek Fisher would come back, but I don’t think Lamar would.

“They thought I’ll make another ‘Illmatic’
But it’s always forward I’m moving
Never backwards stupid here’s another classic”
    Time to move on Kobe.

@T-Money – yeah, I don’t really buy this “Kobe and Fisher are best friends” thing either. I really can’t imagine they’d have a whole lot in common beyond both being on the Lakers. You can work with someone for years and have great professional respect for them without ever being particularly close to them — that’s pretty much how I envisage the Kobe/Fisher relationship working. The rest is just publicity to try to make Kobe look, y’know, vaguely likeable

Oh yeah a slow old point, and a mental swingman will put you right back in the hunt for a chip?!!

If Fish was coming off the bench for 10 mins. a night I could live with that. I’d be stoked to get L.O. back.

  • Top$helf

Lamar would probably sign with the Clippers before goin back to the Lakers

I’d love to see the friendship dynamic between Kobe and Lamar.

LO: “Uh…I didn’t? Anyway my Skittles guy got me some packs, you want some?”
KB: “You should hit the offensive boards tomorrow.”
    LO: “What? Why?”
    KB: “Mamba needs his shots.”
LO: “How are we even friends?”
    KB: “You’re welcome.”

“Look, we don’t get five championships by being sympathetic towards each other and kissing each other’s ass during the game. I’m going to demolish him. He understands that. If he switches off on me in the post, there’s going to be problems. I’m sure he’ll put an elbow right in my back, and that’s why we love each other.”- Kobe Bryant on Derek Fisher

When Odom head this, he burst into tears and then baked some cookies so he could feel a little better about himself.

  • bdogg

love to see fish back as a coach..maybe 10min burn..not sure about odom..not sure where his head is at..he looks lost!

Why should the Lakers get Fisher back? They have a great thing going with Ramon Sessions and I don’t want Fisher coming back to interfere with that. Ramon deserves to be a starter for us and I want him to stay and be our future point guard for hopefully his career. He’s faster, quicker, and a much stronger pointer guard for us than Fisher was.

Odom I would honestly love back, he played great with his years with us. He just doesn’t fit in with the Mavs. Him being back with us would make our bench much better.

Fish was/is the most stable player/leader that the Lakers had. I think Kobe probably misses Derek’s on and off court level headed wisdom. Seeing Bynum lately act like a spoiled brat on court like he has is a by product of not having Fish’s maturity and leadership around. I don’t see Kobe pulling Andrew aside and talking him back in line. I believe Fish is in a great place with the Thunder and why would he want to leave that? Other than having to spend time in OKC? It would be good to see Odom back …especially if he 86′s the reality tv stuff to concentrate on the roundball. I hate to see Lamar end his career like this. Loved watching him when he was on a roll.

  • Marty

I would love to see Fish come back BUT not as a player, as an assistant coach. As for L.O., I doubt he would come back but if he did it would have to be for a hell of a lot less money & with a one year contract at the most…

  • Basketball iQ

Why would you even entertain that if youre Bryant? its like a giant SOS to everyone, “My team sucks…” And what? bring back them sorry mofos? PhilJackson too hunh? the lake show is over for a while unless Howard A Deron comes thru but you havent been planning like some other teams (brooklyn, dallas, boston, clippers)… you wont get either one.

  • LAkers Fan

Neither one huh? Well we have Dwight! Basketball IQ? That must be a small number lol! How do you feel?
