Report: Lakers, Celtics Discussed a Rajon Rondo Trade

According to the LA Times, the Celtics and Lakers chatted about a possible swap for Rajon Rondo recently, but talks didn’t really get serious. Hmmm: “The teams talked last week about a trade for Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, though nothing was close to accomplished and discussions dried up. The Lakers are unwilling to trade Pau Gasol for Rondo, making a deal with Boston unlikely before the trade deadline Thursday. ‘Unless they give up Gasol, they’re not going to get a top-level point guard,’ said a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to discuss it publicly. Rondo had 24 points and 10 assists in the Lakers’ 97-94 victory Sunday over Boston at Staples Center. Gasol had 13 points and 13 rebounds.”

Damn.. I would do it, then deal bynum, blake and metta for D12.

LAKERS GET: Rondo, & Brandon Bass
CELTICS GET: Pau Gasol, Steve Blake, (maybe another bench player), &our 2 first round picks.

I still don’t get why Boston would trade Rondo for Gasol? If they’re shooting for one more championship run before the big three is no more, then OK. But they’re nearly in a rebuilding phase and giving up Rondo doesn’t make sense.

This trade discussion doesn’t make sense. Maybe Lakers offer Paul for Rondo and Celtics decline. Why would Celtics give up Rondo for Paul? How would Paul felt in with the starting line up?? I think someone needed a story.

  • Jer Dawg

It’s the Lakers unwillingness to use trade exception on a guard. Money rolling in and they a being cheap. Smh

Avery Bradley is not going to hold Boston’s offense down, period. Without Rondo, the Celtics are far worse off. I could see them trading KG for Gasol, but in terms of Rondo and what the Lakers have to offer, that trade would be great for the Lakers and AWFUL for the Celtics.

You don’t trade big for small. That would be insane, especially in a Gasol for Rondo situation.

  • shuttlesworth

    it is pau not paul

  • http://dsjfkl.com Jukai

    This absolutely makes no sense.

co-sign hoop shirts, except for “great for the lakers”, more like good imo

  • Yesse

Pau Gasol and somebody else for KG and Rondo. I would still look at other players than Pau, Kobe, Bynum if i wanted to really profit from the trade.

  • robbievanpersie

and how bout lukkkeee walton?oh nobody wants him lmao

  • MookieBlaylock

@Yesse: who? I like where you’re going with that trade, maybe McRoberts? or McRoberts/Pau/Blake?

  • smoove

another dumb deal coming from Ainge..why trade Rondo for gasol..Rondo has a high ceiling. just get a young wing man and a Big and celts are good

  • toinefan88

So they’ll trade Odom for two bags of dirt and leaves but won’t trade Gasol for the best pg in the league?

  • ERNIED

It makes sense in that Boston is in dire need of a center who can rebound. They can make up for not having Rondo, with a combination of Pierce (Point Forward), Keyon Dooling and Avery Bradley. Sure, they lose alot of the strengths that Rondo gives them, but they gain the post offense and defense that nobody else on Boston’s roster can provide. The injuries to Wilcox and JO have left them even more lean at the center spot. They were supposed to still have Shaq this season, and Rasheed last season. for god’s sakes! They also must be aware that the other players are not getting along with Rondo all that well, and are worried about what players they may want to lure feel about playing with him? Wonder if Dwight Howard likes him? The C’s have always found somebody to play point guard, but as the old saying goes, “Size Matters” and the C’s have been short sighted for a long time.

i think Ainge’s idea was get Pau, clean house with everyone else, go for Dwight and maybe even Deron

You never trade your skilled “Bigs” for little guys. Especially those that can’t shoot beyong 10 feet.

Surprised more teams aren’t chasing Jrue Holiday outta Philly.. Dude is playing great..

This Gasol-trade news are becoming more and more entertaining everyday

  • David M.

I can’t stand the Celtics, but I think it’s ridiculous that they wanna trade Rondo. I thought he was supposed to be the piece they build around when all the old guys left? If they get rid of him, then you’re looking at the 2006-2007 version of the Celtics. Real talk.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

    dumb trade.

  • Heals

This never made sense 2 weeks ago and still doesn’t now, move on folks…

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

stupiiiiid… lets trade KG, PPierce, ray allen and rondo for : kobe, pau, bynum and metta WP!!!!!… smh

  • Matt Park

Rondo doesn’t have a high ceiling… He’s pretty much going to remain the same player as right now: a quick guard who plays good defense, makes great reads off plays, cannot shoot (def. debatable but his huge hands and past history make me hesitant to say he will ever become even a good shooter), hurts your floor spacing, gets long rebounds and actually boxes out, and gets to the rim often and finishes very well there.

  • ClydeSays

Don’t see that happening. LA loses their only consistent big & Boston loses their walking Triple Double All Star PG…

  • trueballer

come march 15th boston better trade the big 3 its over.., and jus keep rondo in beantown!

  • theDankerNuggets

The Lakers arn’t willing to trade Gasol for Rondo!!!? Is it opposite day or something because i think this should be the other way around
