Report: Memphis Grizzlies Interested in Gilbert Arenas

According to the Commercial Appeal, Gilbert Arenas could land in Memphis this season once he works out for the Grizzlies: “The Grizzlies are in the midst of a successful season so far but routinely acknowledge they could use more long-distance shooting and better productivity at backup point guard. They are weighing whether free-agent Gilbert Arenas could satisfy both needs, according to multiple NBA sources. Arenas, 30, remains unemployed after the Orlando Magic made him one of the first casualties of the amnesty clause provided in the NBA’s latest collective bargaining agreement. The Grizzlies can add Arenas because they employ a 14-man roster. Teams can carry 15 players. A source said the Grizzlies are in a conditional pursuit of Arenas. Memphis wants to see Arenas in a private workout before making a decision. The Griz originally sought to sign Arenas to a 10-day contract but the veteran combo guard is looking for a guaranteed deal for the rest of the season. Orlando still owes Arenas $62 million for using the one-time amnesty provision. If Arenas were to sign with the Griz, they could only offer him the veteran’s minimum worth about $1.4 million.”

The Spurs need a back up point guard… They should at least put him on their short list!

Don’t do it. Please don’t do it. The grizzlies are playing their best ball ever right now. Gilbert is a solid player, but never mess with a good thing. Didn’t work with iverson. Keep oj mayo too!

Sam Young traded to Philly so this seems like a done deal now

Well he’s already had the Grizzlies playoff beard for a few years now…

I guess this would officially kill off any Josh Selby playing time.

Next Gil gonna be in Turkey.

he’d be an improvement over Mike Conley.

Jay, you must be crazy. Mike Conley is one of the most underrated point guards in the NBA. Last time I checked he was leading the league in steals. Mike Conley is absolutely living up to his contract.

The Grizzlies wouldn’t do something like this. Its not like they’d have signed Iverson a few season ago.

The 2 rookie backup PGs aren’t the solution come playoffs time. This deal is done. Gil will avg. 10min behind Conley.

If Arenas can stay out of trouble this could be great for the Grizzlies come playoffs time. I’m expecting a Grizzlies-Thunder rematch in May.
