Steve Nash ‘Would Definitely Listen’ to a Miami Heat Offer

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Steve Nash will be one of the most prized free agents this summer, and though the point guard (38 years old, and still leading the League in assists) says that returning to Phoenix is what he’d like to do if they’re serious about winning, he’s keeping all of his options open.

Those options, apparently, include possibly teaming up with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the rest of the Miami Heat. (*Gulp*)

Nash made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show today, and said that if Miami made him an offer, he’d listen very carefully:

“I’d listen,” Steve Nash said. […] “I love what they’re doing there. A lot of people don’t like them because they put all that talent together.”

“But they’re professional, they play hard, they play together. Their coaching staff has done a great job. So, I have a tremendous amount of respect for them, and I would definitely listen.”

Steve Nash also said that he thinks the Phoenix Suns are willing to spend and make moves to improve the roster, so that he can have a legitimate shot at his first NBA championship. Nash — though still obviously brilliant at his advanced age — doesn’t have a lot of time left to be playing at such a high level.

If he bolts to South Beach or another contending team this summer, it’d be difficult for most reasonable basketball fans to be upset with Steve Nash’s decision.

nash bring your ass to miami

  • Otis

Oh good grief – if this happens, I won’t be able to hate the Heat any more, even as they steamroll their way to the Championship

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

    F’n do it.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They would only be able to offer him like 40 bucks though lol. He would listen, it doesn’t mean he would sign.

  • http://ZOGS.COM ZOGS

Very smart of him not to commit to any teams but phx. Dwight could learn from him

  • Jerome

I see no difference in this comment and the comments made by D12. The main difference to me is people respect Nash.

  • Otis

@nbk – if Phoenix don’t get their act together, he’d prob go to Miami for $2.50 and a carb-free chicken dish. All he really has left to achieve is winning a Championship, and I’m sure he’s fine financially – he doesn’t seem the Antoine Walker type, really :)

  • stlheatmaniac

Come to the heat home biscuit!! fuk PHX they aint eva winnin jack! u too good, and too talented to b stuck in bumville till retirenment. how bout a few more title runs broski!! LETS GO HEAT!!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Otis, maybe look back at Steve’s career. He’s picked money over winning twice already…

  • http://cechicagorilla@aol.com yada

by next year would it matter?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Go get that chip baby!!!

  • T-Money

not a chance, although i would pass out if it happens. steve nash doesn’t turn down money.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

So, nobody thinks Nash is a punk and coward for considering the team up route?
    Oh, ok then.

  • @boweezy24

I Wouldn’t be Mad If He Left. My Fav Player Was Nash. Still Love to See Him play. Go Somewhere With a Good Team.

  • kobesBESTfriend

    Chalmers>Nash

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Even if he does like black women, I would stop being a fan if he joined, that’s a given.

  • MUBWAR

nobody will be mad at that steve. Nash averages 11 assists with bums, thats an easy 14assists (min) with the heat

  • T-Money

would miami trade cb for nash? (nash to miami would only work in a sign and trade).

  • @boweezy24

Nash and Lebron Pick and Roll? :) or No? aha

  • http://nba.com GP23

He’s still one of the best Point Guards in the league. Go get that Larry O’Brien trophy Steve. 3 future Hall of Famers in one line-up would be insane. (Although we know how that ended up with the Lakers in ’04 !!)

  • Pais

Nooooooooooo, somehow I have to stop this from happening. This is a situation where that meddling misfit Stern and his powers of veto are needed.

  • jay cutler

@Allenp of course not. That would be unreasonable to criticize the man for wanting to maximize his chances of winning. Isn’t that what competitors want to do by definition?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Don’t do it Stevey. Don’t do it! Don’t ever join the dark side!

  • bull22

wow and not surprised, at this point in his career and desperate for a ring he has to try and ride somebody’s coattails. positive for him is he has lots of examples on that team, lebron riding wade’s coattails for a title.
bosh riding lebron and wade’s coattails for a title. wade riding lebron’s
coattails for a title and already has ridden shaq’s coattails for a title.
time for the heat to rename themselves the MIAMI COATTAILS…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Allen is calling out everyone that gets mad at other players for doing that, then giving a pass to Steve Nash for (maybe) doing the same thing. He’s not callin out Steve Nash or criticizing him. Infact, he’s criticized Nash for doing the opposite in the past.

  • Rainman

I’ve Followed Nash’s career, and he’s my fav player. I dont see him joining the heat at the end of the day, i just have a feeling. Not that it would be a bad thing or ANYONE(who is reasonable at least) would hold it against him…

  • Rainman

oh kool, the article used the words i sued before i read it lol, “reasonable” those fans wont hold it against him, the reasoanble ones.

  • abaci

I doubt he will go to Miami

  • Johnson

    Chalmers>Kobe

  • http://lol.org Moses

    Cole > Chalmers > Kobe > Nash

  • Rainman

whats the difference between he and d12 btw? Naash has shown loyalty, he’s the most loyal guy in the league. He’s signed with them when they werent very good. Stuck by em, didnt ask for a TRADE(!!!!!) and throw his team under the bus. he stuck by his guys, he’s playin through his contract, and none of the teams fans wud hold it against him at all if he decided to play elsewhere. Thaat sounds abour right

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Just another NASH jersey for me to collect do it!

  • RunNGun

Well, if he wants the league minimum, feel free to go. LOL HEAT have no cap space left.

  • bike

He’s 38 with a flaky back. It’s not like the Heat are getting CP or Rose. Can’t see the Heat putting a lot of effort into pursuing him.

  • Ash

If Miami doesn’t win a championship this year I would possibly let go one of the big 3 more than likely Lebron. So going after Nash could be a possiblty

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I really really want Steve Nash to get that chip. I think he should just put himself in the best position to do that next season.

  • http://cnbc.com New_Guy

I think he should not go. Suns look like they could make serious run at the title. Lots of talent there

  • MikeC.

    Nash to Dallas?

  • http://sdjfklfl.com Jukai

I can see Nash taking the minimum for the Heat. A championship would propel him the discussion of top points.

  • LA Huey

“whats the difference between he and d12 btw? Naash has shown loyalty” Loyalty as in when he left an established contender in Dallas for a bigger paycheck in Phoenix? Smart money says he goes where the money is this offseason too.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Jukai you are dead wrong, He is not a top 15 point guard all time. Take away the bogus MVPs. He is just a good point guard. BOOK IT!!

  • Kilo

The Lakers had The Glove. The Mailman, Mamba and

  • T-Money

a championship for nash as the 3rd or 4th best player on his team will change absolutely nothing to his legacy. jkidd is in the same exact spot he was before the ring. also, theres no evidence to suggest that nash would take a paycut, let alone the vet min!

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/ Paul H

Scrolling….scrolling….scrolling…..Ahhhhh. There It Is. Irrational Seed hatred on Nash and his legacy followed by the obligatory “Book It.” Was worried for a second.

  • Rainman

@ LA huey: lets not sugar coat it, we all know Mark Cuban didnt put much into the offer, he didnt think Nash cud sustain his talent through a long talent. It wasnt much an offer at all…

and look, Seed is up with his nash hate. idiocy at its finest…BOOK IT

  • http://sdjfklfl.com Jukai

T-Money: That’s crap. The ring that Payton got riding Wade and Shaq’s coat tails threw him up there. If Tiny Archibald never won with the Celts, where do you think he would be?
And trust me, Kidd’s ring helped him. You’ll see him on a LOT more top-5 lists, Frazier and Payton be damned.

  • Matt Park

But would he fit into the Miami system? He isn’t the ballhawk that Cole and Chalmers are and they are integral to the Heat’s success. Of course, they could always rework the team’s identity but why risk losing the chemistry they’ve built as a team?

  • RunNGun

@KILO and they didn’t win sh!t with all of them together and the franchised collapsed for a few years.

  • Youngindy21

He should consider the Indiana Pacers. They need a great PG and with a superstar like Nash there is no reason they wouldn’t be able to compete for a championship next season. In the West there is stiff competition to make it to the NBA Finals but in the East you basically have Chicago and Miami. Plus he would be seen as more of a hero in Indy because the Pacers are one of the many NBA teams that hasn’t won a NBA title yet.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Thank you AllenP!!! Loyal? Honoring his contract? Bron, Bosh honored their contracts in Cle and TO as well. How far did that get them? Double-Standards in basketball are ridiculous!!!
