Washington Wizards to Bench Andray Blatche Until He’s in Shape

The Andray Blatche nightmare in Washington continues to roll along. Blatche will not put on a Wizards uniform until the team determines that he’s in good enough shape to do so. Per the WaPo: “After watching Andray Blatche labor through the past nine games and struggle to contribute, Wizards Coach Randy Wittman announced on Tuesday that he would shut down the 6-foot-11 forward until he is in better condition. Blatche missed more than a month with a strained left calf but has averaged just 5.1 points on 37.7 percent shooting and 3.3 rebounds in about 16 minutes since he returned. [...] ‘We thought we could maybe try to play him into shape once he got back,’ Wittman said. ‘After looking at it, it’s unfair for me to put him in that position. and I think what we’re going to do, we’re going to probably not play him for a while, get him on a program here, where he can really go after it from a conditioning standpoint to get himself back into shape. It’s not fair for me to do that to the kid.’ Blatche is averaging just 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds, the only time in his career that his statistics haven’t improved from the previous season. The Wizards were 3-6 since he came back and tried unsuccessfully to move Blatche at the trade deadline, finding no takers. He still has three years and $23 million remaining on his contract after this season.”

For the love of progress, please don’t put Jared Sullinger’s locker next to Blatche’s.

Blatche needs to hook up with Eddy Curry on the buffet line.

I am a Washington Wizards fan, and frequent reader of bulletsforever.com. I have been saying this for almost a year now. I said that what the Wizards should do, if they can, is fake an injury for Andray and put him through an intensive workout program.

Though they are not doing exactly this, this should have been done way earlier in the year under Flip.

I hope one day the Wizards can be a competitive team, night in and night out. Dray has to go, who will take him?, no one knows.

Dre is a heartbreaker because at time he plays great and makes moves that guards not bigmen do. He does need to do but are you going to use the amnesty on Blatche or Rashard?

How about please don’t draft Jared Sullinger, he’s gonna be Sean May 2.0.

I’m about to go to Wendy’s and order the Blatche Combo…Supersized everything! $23 Million owed! You know how many combos he can order with that. That’s almost 2,875,000 combos. You can feed Ethiopia for a whole year with that ammount of combos.

Players should be held accountable for stuff like weight issues and other things that directly or will directly affect their teams, and their agents should be held accountable since they represent the player, am I correct? That should be part of the contract clause – all the negative things that can affect their contribution(s) to the team – weight control, behavior on and off the court, community services, etc, etc. Crazy owners and Gen Managers who submit to anything their agents put on the contract without so much emphasis on the important things, i.e., “what they CANNOT be doing to affect their physical shape to be able to apply and comply in able to abide by the requirements of their contracts – to be an asset to the team’s goal for success and not their own appetite.”

@Dfrance21, okay I’ll take that with a grain of salt. Not like the Bobcats have a long track record of making solid picks anyway.

I think Andray may be battling depression.

@Prop Walsh: regardless of salary, i’d rather pay shard for one more year, than dray for 3.
