Baylor Forward Perry Jones III to Enter NBA Draft

After two seasons in Wako, Baylor sophomore and highly-touted prospect Perry Jones III will enter the NBA Draft. Via CBSSports.com: “Bears coach Scott Drew told CBSSports.com that the talented 6-foot-10 Texas native has decided to leave school. Jones averaged 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, but NBA executives question his toughness and intensity. However, it’s unlikely that Jones isn’t taken in the NBA lottery. Jones was suspended for the Big 12 tournament a year ago, and many were shocked when he opted to return and serve the remainder of his six-game NCAA-imposed suspension.”

RE: Perry Jones III plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Smart to get out before the NCAA starts doling out punishment on your program.

This cat has bust/underachiever written all over him

  • T-Money

Or superstar. Or all star, could really go either way. I remember thatRudy Gay had no clue how to impose his will at UConn.

he really hurt his stock by coming back last year, would probably have been top 5. Very underwhelming sophomore year along with barnes and sullinger (and partly terrence jones, even though the influx of major talent gives him more of an excuse imo) i really hope someone picks up quincy acy, he could be a really solid back up 4, kenneth faried like

^true t-money, this dude reminds me of earl clark actually, top 5 talent 4sure, just too many intagibles missing it seems like

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

bout time, hit the weight room, work on your jumper, and like….work on demanding the ball more….or something like that. guy took like 8 shots a game…ridiculous

Keep in mind if kid can get his game together, he could be a steal.

  • Buujangles

His demeanor reminds me of Joe Johnson always cool, and never really shows emotion. If he could ever gain some intensity he could be scary good with his length and skills. Cosign on the Earl Clark comparison

  • B,C,

Best thing for him, no point for him to stay at Baylor. In the NBA they can work with him one on one and he can eventually develop into a superstar.

  • Ev

@jtaylor couldn’t have put it any better. He’ll just be another face in the crowd who people scream POTENTIAL over but won’t ever amount to anything

  • logues

he should stay, he aint ready… just gonna be another derrick favors cept worse prolly

  • Bobbito

Logues everyone knew favors was a pick based on potential. He’s playing solid behind probably the best big men duo in the league right now, so give him his time. As for jones I do think he’ll be solid in the league, but I definitely could see the bust thing happening too. I don’t expect him to be a top 5 pick but still a late lottery pick. So imo he can’t really be a bust because no ones gonna expect him to turn a franchise around. I see him being a solid forward who’ll average over 15 points & 7-8 boards over his career, but makes us all wonder could he be the next Amar’e or Chris Bosh, had he ever put it all together. I’m sorry to say it but I compare him to tyrus thomas coming out of LSU.

  • jake

    I was thinking ed obannon.

  • Top$helf

Talent level is great just needs somebody or something to light a fire under his @$$ I could see him avg. 20 and 7 in the L if that happens

I’m with Spit on Acy. I’m surprised no one talks about that kid but he looks like an easy 12-10 guy. People always over look glue guys, but he plays hard, he’s athletic, he doesn’t need play calls and cares about defense and rebounding.

  • Buujangles

+1 on Acy. Reminds me of Dejuan Blair without the knee problems. I have a feeling he will end up on San Antonio one way or another or in OKC.

  • T-Money

We always talk about the busts who had lots of potential. Bu what about the mcgradys, jermaine oneals, zach randolphs, joe johnsons… They started out slowly, had lots of talent but didnt know how to play. Now theyre all-stars. Taking potential over production is sometimes the right move.

  • r2j

He should go to a playoff team. Like Boston, Orlando, San Antonio or maybe Phoenix or Cleveland. He’s very talented though he will struggle his first 2 years then he’ll pick it back up later in his career.

Pj3 will be star if he has the righ team behind him. i had baylor when nobody knew how good the team was. PJ3 has size , touch, springs, Bball iq that you cant teach. He can get a motor eventually with the right coach and system. You put him on the block as 4 or 5 he will be a bust. U let him create on the wing Tmac or rudy gay or lesser extent paulgeorge with being 6’11 Sf.

Two things you can’t coach is killer instinct and otor. Pj3 has neither. Reminds me of anthony randolph

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    Bust, BOOK IT!!

  • jpm34

I like the Anthony Randolph comparison. Gonna be soft.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Hossy

for someone with his size/length/physical abilities; he is not NEARLY aggressive or assertive enough. he needs to realize what a beast he can be

  • Marc

Can we just wait till his first season before we call him a bust? I’m just saying.

  • Bawse

I hope it works out for him. I am not sold on him. Yes Rudy Gay became a better pro but still isnt as dominant as his skills suggest. I wouldnt draft Perry high if I was a GM.

  • LP

Derrick Favors is actually decent, he is just playing behind Jefferson and Milsap… THis guy will be a bust, a SMART GM won’t take the chance with a lottery pick… There’s always talk about “If he can get it together, he has potential”…..Well, he’s been in college 2 years and i don’t see a above-par NBA player nowhere in him…

  • LP

@showtime = stop commenting, how is he gonna all of the sudden get a motor with “the right coach and system”??? thats very silly for you to say. Don’t disrespect TMAC (a 2 guard, fyi) by comparing him… i’ve yet to see any sort of guard or 3-man skills from Perry.

  • http://www.nbadraft.net showtime

@lp he is freaking 3 if you watch any highschool ball or some baylor game you would’ve seen that.. Drew had the men playin the 5. So how can you showcast 3man skill if they have you allways set in the block. piont blank period him beside adavis has the the highest skill set and upsided get informed. people compare to tmac and ruday gay cause of their equally touch , shot and athelitism but no motor or willing to take over games. again get informed.
