Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire Want Knicks to Retain Coach Mike Woodson

Forget the other big names available on the coaches’ market, Mike Woodson has the public support of his two main stars on the Knicks. Per Newsday: “Carmelo Anthony wants Mike Woodson to be his coach next season. Anthony, the Knicks’ biggest star and one of their most influential players, effusively praised Woodson after practice Wednesday. Since becoming interim coach after Mike D’Antoni resigned March 14, Woodson has guided the Knicks to a 16-6 record and a playoff berth. ‘I would love to see him around here past this year,’ Anthony said. ‘Just to see what he’s brought to our team, the confidence that he’s instilled into everybody, the belief that he has in everybody. Just his coaching style, the way he’s coached, kind of a hard-nosed coach. Holds everybody accountable out there, saying that everybody is responsible for their own actions. I would love to see him back here.’ When asked if he would be willing to go to management and tell them what he thinks, Anthony said: ‘I’m pretty sure they’re hearing me right now. Like I said, I would love to see him around here … ‘ Another franchise cornerstone, Amar’e Stoudemire, supports Woodson coming back, too. ;Coach Woodson has done a great job for us,’ Stoudemire said. ‘He’s done a phenomenal, phenomenal job. I love his attitude. I love his coaching style. It would be nice.’”

Hey Melo… what about the Pringles Man, Mike D’Antoni?

‘I would love to see him around here past this year,’ Anthony said.

‘I would love to see him back here.’

Note that he never adds “as headcoach” to any of his comments.

I just wanna see Jeremy Lin start next season because that wasn’t fair that they took away his role starting role…..that kid deserves a chance, like D’Antoni gave him…..fire Mike Woodson he didn’t do anything with the Hawks and New York shall be no different.

Even though Phil Jackson is the ideal choice for the Knicks next choice, the way they’ve responded to Woodson, it might be smart to keep him around. Let’s be real, Phil, Melo and Stat are alpha males with huge egos. All three will bump heads like CRAZY! Woodson isn’t trying to dominate them, but is making them look at themselves and evaluate they’re talent while keeping egos in check. He’s doing all of this while getting them to play up to their capacities AND playing defense. Don’t forget how Jackson began losing his players towards the end of his last season. That said, I hope we can sign Nash and keep Lin in the process. Very LONG shot, but you never know…
