Caron Butler Broke His Left Hand in Game 1

Somewhat lost in the LA Clippers’ stunning comeback victory in Game 1 against the Memphis Grizzlies last night, is news of Caron Butler’s broken hand. The LA Daily News has the details: “Clippers forward Caron Butler broke his left hand Sunday in Game 1 against Memphis. Butler had 12 points and two rebounds in 23 minutes. The forward said he thinks he got hurt early in the third quarter when his hand got caught during a pin-down screen in the jersey of Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay, another former Connecticut star. Butler was able to keep playing but once he went to the bench, he noticed his hand throbbing. He went to the locker room for an X-ray and returned to the bench. ‘I was about to go back in the game, and got the X-ray results,’ Butler said. ‘I told coach I was ready, and he was about to throw me back in the fire.’ The veteran is one of the few Clippers with playoff experience, though he was injured last year when he was with the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks. A starter, Butler averaged 12 points for the Clippers this season. ‘I feel terrible for him,’ Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. ‘He’s been such a pro for us, but injuries are part of it. Other guys are going to have to step up like they did tonight. But replacing Caron right now … he’s been so valuable for us all year. I know the guys feel bad.’”

Just plaster the hand and get back in the game. NFL players do it all the time. j/k
Too bad, dude. Hate to see injuries like this.

Is it possible for him to still make the playoffs if clips miraculously make the finals? If they somehow win with him on the bench, could caron be considered a lucky charm when not playing? I know a lot of players are the superstitious type in regards to the game.

This is ridiculoussss imo! He doesn’t even know when it occurred? But yet it’s broken? I doubt that. How can you have a bone, yes a bone(!), break (!) in your hand, and not know the exact moment it occurred?

I dunno, i think Butler mite be a wuss..he got injured last year too and missed the whole playoffs..

    Is that patrick from spongebob?

@patrick – He breaks a bone and doesn’t know it, therefore he’s a wuss. That’s the worst logic I’ve read today.
