Contest: Win a Pair of Reebok Zig Encore Danilo Gallinari PEs

Leave a comment, win some kicks.

It’s been a tumultuous two seasons for the Denver Nuggets. First there was the Melodrama; then there was the big trade that ended it; then there was the first-round Playoff loss; then there was this year’s hot start, which was almost immediately followed by a rash of injuries and a precipitous fall in the Western Conference standings. And with Denver trying its best to hold on to its current one-game lead over the Phoenix Suns for the final spot in the Western Conference postseason race, we thought we’d reward a few Nuggets fans for their loyalty.

How?

Our friends at Reebok have given us four pairs of the Zig Encore Danilo Gallinari PEs (pictured above)—in Gallo’s size—which we’re giving away, right here.

All you have to do is tell us in the comments section of this post (please provide your real email address when commenting, so we can contact the winners properly) who your all-time favorite Denver Nugget is, and why. It’s that simple.

The winners will be selected and contacted later this week.

Good luck!

Nick van exel…tremendous amount of swag and irrational confidence. He put that team on his back during some of their darkest years.

My pick would be Fat Lever. With no disrespect to Chauncey Billups who’s also one of my all-time favorite point guards that played for Denver, Fat Lever is your modern-day Rajon Rondo, a 6’3 do-it-all PG. He averaged close to a triple-double in the 1988-89 season (19.8 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 7.9 apg). On January 7th, 1987 in a losing effort against the Chicago Bulls (96-100) Lever had the amazing stat-line of 31 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists, six steals and a block, and that’s why he’s my pick for this contest. ALEX ENGLISH.

il mio giocatore preferito è Danilo Gallinari himself! I know he’s only been here for a season and a half but he’s already become my favorite. He can draw fouls, swish a mid ranger and step back for a 3ball. He’s also a playmaker and he’s one reason why the Nuggets have had a winning record. Also do you guys remember that clutch fade away 3 he scored vs Atlanta? And did you know his best friend is Ronny Turiaf and Nene? cose interessanti eh?

I’d have to say George Karl. Throughout the cancer, the melodrama, & half of the team going to China, he keeps them being a playoff team. Everybody thought it was over for the nuggets when Mell left, he kept them together.

  • bks_sizzle

My All-Time Favorite Denver Nugget was David Thompson. Simple, the man really could fly…

  • SBS

Allen Iverson because he didn’t have an issue with ‘practice’

  • J Blackburn

Byron Beck is my favorite Denver Nugget of all time. Yes he was before my time but he went to a local high school and I have met him through friends of mine and he is a really nice guy and was a great player in his time. The first player to have his jersey retired by the Denver organization and one of six players to play all nine seasons with the ABA Denver Rockets which became the Nuggets who he played a season for in the NBA.

  • c_newell

Danillo Gallinari because when he is fully healthy hes the best player on the Nuggets and hes whats gonna get them a first round upset!
Gallo > Melo for the Nuggets or the Knicks, and hes been down with reebok ever since he came in

Raef LaFrentz! Such a smooth shooting big man who had his most successful seasons as a Nugget. Went on to be the first player to capture 200 blocked shots and 150 3-pointers in a season. Also, former Jayhawk on a team full of amazing talent including Paul Pierce.

  • Fresh Boirdee

These are not the Zig Encore’s, they look more like the Zig Pro Future…all Reebok’s basketball shoes look exactly the same. Also, Gallo has been adidas this season.

  • Rob

Robert Pacman Pack. IN YA FACE, BABY!

  • abaci

Dikembe Mutombo. He is clearly a great guy off the court with all the charity work he does. He had an awesome career, and with his voice and sense of humor he is a character to boot. Ya know the clip they show all the time of the 8th seeded Nuggets beating my 1st seeded Sonics, the one where Dikembe is on the floor celebrating with the ball over his head? The fact that Dikembe is such a good guy makes it .0000001 more tolerable every time I see it.

  • Marcus

Eight straight 2,000 point seasons, over 25,000 career points. That #2 jersey everyone rocked as a throwback.Long before Carmelo was leading the team in scoring, there was Alex English. Was there ever any doubt?

  • John Lewis

My Favorite Denver Nugget of all time has to be Dikembe Mutombo Because of The Great Defense he played and his low post scoring ability

  • Chris Charleston

When you think Denver Nuggets, you think..tough,defense,strong. One player defines that in Nuggets history more and any other one. MARCUS CAMBY. We’re talking about a guy who led the NBA in blocks and BPG 3 times each with Denver. 8th all time in BPG in NBA HISTORY!!! 4 time nba all defense team! I mean what other nugget got you that! DPOY, HANDS DOWN! Has to be The Camby Man! Go Nuggets

My favorite Nugget of all-time… OF ALL TIME (kanye voice)… has to be Chris “The Birdman” Anderson. Ever since he came into the league blocking shots and dunking on fools dude has a had a spot on my fav players list. Rocking the purp and yellow mohawk, Birdman soared. Dude is EPIC.

    Dikembe Mutombo.

  • Calum McGloin

Gallo hands down! Firstly I am from europe and it is great to see Danilo representing us, he is in his 4th season in the league and one of the most versatile players in the league, at 6 ft 10 he is the size of a forward but can play like a guard with great handling ability and speed making him a machine getting to the basket. He is definately a future all star and one of the most dominant players in the league. :)

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

I have to say Allen Iverson. I know that his legacy lies with the Sixers, as well it should, but AI still suited up for Denver. Easily one of the most breathtaking players to ever play in the league, his handles were sick, his jumpshot was wet and his defense was quick. When people talk about Iverson in the future, they probably won’t even mention that he played for the Nuggets. Hell, they probably won’t even remember. But Iverson’s presence in the league was felt over his whole career, and he’s still my favorite player to ever put on a Nuggets uniform.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Also, to add on to my last post: Forget Hov, Iverson invented swag.

  • logues

my favorite would have to be robert pack. dude was little but had insane hops and had some really impressive dunks ON big guys

  • Aamir K.

My Favorite Nugget of all time is Dan Issel. He was a great college player at Kentucky, and averaged 25.7 PPG, a school record. Issel has almost 28,000 career points, and as a rookie was an All-Star and averaged 30 PPG and 13 RPG, and was only ALl-ABA Second Team?He was an ABA All-Star Game MVP his 2nd year, where he averaged 30.6 PPG. This is also more impressive because he was undersized, and generously listed at 6 ft 9 inches. And, he was a great coach, leading the Nuggets to the first ever 1-8 seed upset, beating the Sonics in 5 games. AND he was a great guy off the court, and won the Walter J. Kennedy Citizenship award. He and Artis Gilmore led the Kentucky Colonels, his team from 1970-75 to an ABA Championship. Alos, during the twilight of his career, 5 out of his last 8, he averaged over 20 PPG. Enough Said.

  • Tyler Murphy

Alex English. Alex has played in the most games of any player in Nuggets history with 837 games. It is next to impossible to look at a Nuggets player career leader board without seeing the name Alex English in the top ten. Alex was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1997.
He was dedicaded to the nuggets and only the nuggets.

  • DFRANK

    Kenneth Faried. Manimal. ‘Nuff said.

  • Benji Uriarte

Allen Iverson because he had an amazing crossover in which i am trying to implement into my game!

  • nicholas beaver

CHAUNCEY BILLUPS!!!!! HE IS A CHAMP!!!!!!!! BEST GUARD THAT PLAYED FOR THE NUGS

  • Jon Blevins

Win a Pair of Reebok Zig Encore Danilo Gallinari PEs

Mutumbo he played with so much passion and gave 100% effort everytime he stepped on the court. He might not have been the most talented player on the floor each night but he sure was one of the best. Mutumbo was the best all around team player there ever was, he always focused on what he did best.

  • Lucas

    Robert Freaking Pack!!!!1

  • Zabbah

Carmelo Anthony. I know a lot of people will be rolling their eyes when I say this but I see a little bit of Larry Bird inside Melo. I’m talking about when it’s the fourth quarter, two minutes to go and your team’s down by five, both men have this fearless look in their eyes, an almost arrogant and aggressive insistence that the ball should be in their hands. And you can’t argue with that. You give them the ball and you watch someone go to work crunch time. That’s where the two meet.
Unfortunately he doesn’t have Bird’s titles, defense or even court vision. And maybe that’s why he bolted to New York, so he could find players that could do those things for him. Whatever. I know he hit as many game winners, or close to as many, than Kobe Bryant did during his tenure as a Nugget. That’s a lot of wild finishes and something to remember and cherish.

Since the shoes are from a euro player it is only fitting that I give a shout out to my fav nugget — Saurunis Marciulionis!
One of the first Euros to pave the way for others who ended his NBA Career in 97″ with the Nuggets.

Check out this blurb about Sarunus:

In the aftermath of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, Marčiulionis appeared at the site of a commuter train accident wearing his Warriors warm up outfit and helped by pulling out trapped passengers and administering first aid.

Id definitely go with Antonio Mcdyess, he was killin’ it on the highlights when the nuggs had them sexy a$$ navy and gold Uni’s. They were a horrible team back then, but never looked as bad as the BetCats and JaVale Mcgee somehow simultaneously do. jaetha1@hotmail.com

Who else but the Carmelo Anthony who helped resurrect the Nuggets in his rookie season. Lebron couldn’t even help the Cavs enter the play-offs his first year and he had Big Z and Boozer. Carmelo does not have the best defense in the NBA but the fact that he has an offensive weapon is a huge plus and besides if he can’t defend as well that is why they have a team. Sure he was not happy with Nuggets organization after a couple years before he got traded but that is only because the organization did not do a great job getting the team past the first round from 03-04 season to 08-09 season afterwards they struggled to get past the first round once again after the 08-09 season. Definitely deserves to get his number retired regardless of him asking to be traded. By far the most underrated player in the NBA during his tenure with the Nuggets

  • http://www.northwestball.com Strong Jam’n

My favorite nugget has to be Brian Owens!
I remember back in the day collecting basketball cards …the excitement of having doubles of his Topps Rookie Card….
Checking Beckett Magazine and peeping the .75 ^ —- True card collectors know what that ^ means!!!

SLAM — help a brother out with a pair of kicks so I can add to my free giveaways at my Summer Jam Basketball Camp this year!

    Good Looks!

  • Noah O

Dikembe Mutombo for the defensive awesomeness and the classic voice/finger wag

  • Blue

hmmmmmm probably andre miller. was stoked when we traded for him in the offseason. just a really durable, tough and smart point guard that makes players around him better. Truly one of the most underated point guards of the last decade

  • MDubb3

They is some many people respectively to choose but being biased I guess,Carmelo Anthony. He brought everything he had to this organization and without a doubt he could have been more successful in Denver but that’s life. I chose Carmelo because of that swagger he brought to the court whether is was a head to head match up against Lebron or his clutch shots down the stretch. When I was younger, I had a printed Carmelo Anthony jersey, and as it got washed, the jersey faded but my faith in the Nuggets and Carmelo to the day the jersey was no longer there. Carmelo’s best career play imo was his 33 points in a quarter hands down. Im pretty sure you guys are familiar with Carmelo Anthony but yeah, he’s my favorite player. No Doubt. hit me up at mohamedwarsame@ymail.com Take Care

  • CL

Has to be Melo for me. Very clutch player and, one of the best all around scorers the league has ever seen. One of the first NBA games I ever went to, was the nuggets vs the pacers and believe it or not Melo hit a buzzer beater to win the game. Even after the ‘melodrama’ I’m still a huge denver fan and watch them whenever I can.

  • Adam Thompson

Ty Lawson is my favourite nugget because he isn’t the biggest player out there but he plays with a lot of heart and spirit and has quick feet and great hands which compliment these attributes and makes him a deadly scorer and the greatest nugget to date.
    Adam-2.11@hotmail.com

  • James

Dikembe “Mount” Mutombo. The finger wave. ‘Nuff said.

  • Brett

Honestly, my favorite Nuggets player is Gallo. It started in New York – there is just something awesome about the way he plays basketball. May his team oriented, awkward drives and even more awkward post game interviews where he makes strange faces as he leans down to hear the shorter interviewer continue for many years.

  • rob stewart

ALL Time favorite Nugget is Jimmie King!!! I know he only played two games for them but numbers aren’t always everything. He was my favorite Fab Five member and he spent a little time in Toronto. But his last games in the NBA and national basketball radar were with the Denver Nuggets.

  • Bob Baby

Gotta say Tim Hardaway. He lost his mind in Denver!!! Dude threw a tv!! Thats right he threw a television screen on the court during a game and got suspended two games. That’s something to remember
