Derrick Rose Has the NBA’s Top-Selling Jersey This Season

Last year’s regular season MVP has the most popular jersey in the NBA this season, according to the League’s sales figures. Second on the list is Jeremy Lin, followed by Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Carmelo Anthony: “Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls secured the top spots as the NBA’s Most Popular Jersey and Team Merchandise, respectively, based on sales at the temporary NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and on NBAStore.com from April 2011 to present. Rose, who climbed from No. 5 last year to No. 1 on the jersey list for the first time in his career, helped the Bulls reclaim the top overall spot in team merchandise sales for the first time since April 2001. At No. 2 on the list is New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin, whose breakout season also propelled him to the most popular jersey spot for February and March. Rounding out the top five are Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (No. 3), Miami Heat’s LeBron James (No. 4) and the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony (No. 5). Since 2001, Bryant has claimed the No. 1 position six times and James has held it twice. The Knicks, who also have Amar’e Stoudemire (No. 11) on the jersey list, advanced two spots from last year to No. 2 on this year’s team list followed by the Lakers (No. 3), Heat (No. 4), and the 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks (No. 5). Prior to this year, the Lakers occupied the top spot in team merchandise since the end of the 2008 season.”

Lin! geez, what a bunch of ‘tards rockin that jersey. goodfreakinggrief.

  • lakernation

#1. Great choice he deserves it, #2. not surprised everyone jumped on his bandwagon, #3. thats my boy i expect his jersey to sell every year #4. I’m surprised he’s not #1, #5. wow two knicks jerseys in the top 5…. they are cashing in.

  • Drig

The hell did Lin’s jersey become so popular?!?! Don’t tell me people were blind enough and large enough in number to buy Lin’s jersey after simply 8 good games?!?!?! DRose top in a year that he was injured for many a game and wasn’t at the top of his game??? I expected LBJ to be #1, CP3 to be #2, Durant #3 and Kobe #4……..

Chi-Town! DRose with the top-selling jersey, and Bulls are No. 1 in team merchandise sales.

  • lakernation

@ Drig i couldnt agree with you more on the Lin comment, but Drose won MVP last year so naturally coming into the season fans are going to purchase his jersey. Lebron will creep back up to #1 next year cause i’m pretty sure he will win the MVP. If CP3 would of gone to the Lakers he would be an easy #2 or #1…. I am surprised Durant isnt in the TOP 5 thank Lin fans for that.

amazing what an mvp can do for you(not to mention they have the best looking uniforms in the nba). big time shocker that durant wasnt top 5. maybe if he played for chicago……

Yeah I think location has a lot to do with it. Plus, these are only sales figures from nba.com and the NYC store. I know whenever I bought an NBA jersey, those are the last places I’ve looked for them.

  • Ghostzilla

Part of the team merchandise sells for the Bulls are the snapbacks.

  • Balls

Rose got his MVP treat here for all those wanting to buy some history. Don’t underestimate the effect Lin has on Asians and Americans, it doesn’t take 82 games to make a statement.

a lot of people still buy bulls merchandise because of jordan. Most of the people i talk to wearing a bulls snapback here in the netherlands dont know any of the current bulls players. Not even rose. Everybody knows jordan barkley bird magic and even shaq. But almost no one knows any current players. Kobe might be the only active player people know.

  • bmorezbest

people prolly figure this is good lounge wear since both of them are hurt at home layin on the couch lol

  • Rik Smits Mullet

oh yeah even lin is more well known then any of the active players. Because his surge was news here in my nba deprived country.

The reason a lot of people where team apparel especially snapbacks is because it looks stylish not because they like the team or know any of the players past or present. Also some percentage of Bulls fitted or snapback wearers are in blood gangs. Idk about in Chicago but it’s big out here in LA.

  • robb

    I don’t understand people buying Melo’s jersey

  • Rik Smits Mullet

its probably people called anthony who think its cool to wear a jersey with there first name on it.

I don’t see why it’s a surprise that Lin made the top 5 – he was a phenomenon/media story in the biggest market in the country, and NO ONE had his jersey before so his potential for sales was greater. Just like Kobe and Bron’s sales went up when they changed numbers, to a lesser degree.

I don’t understand how Rondo ain’t up there. Y’all just influenced by the mass media. By the way, this year it’s gonna be Celtics Vs. Grizzlies. Y’all heard it here first from Eddie, your messiah. Come to me and sit by my lap and here me recount tales of yesteryear. Ah the NBA before it become the Earth Basketball Assocation. • everything

lebron jersey aint selling because of what happened last season but damn those hardwood classic floridians looks clean in the summer.

  • everything

oh and those st. patricks jersey of the knicks with the orange border looks mighty clean as well. kinda reminiscient of the ninja turtles lol

  • biggieman

It is ridiculous that Jeremy Lin is #2… He only playing good in like 10 games, against the worst teams in the NBA. Great story and all, but I don’t think Lin is even a top 10 point guard in the league. However, that has no bearing on jersey sales, he is on top simply because there are a billion asian people buying his jersey, and I would put money on him being an all-star next season for the same reason! On that subject, let’s get rid of fan voting for NBA all stars! Yao Ming would still be an all-star this year if he was on the ballot, even though he’s retired!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Do they count player t-shirts with jersey sales?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ robb: He plays in New York. That’s pretty much the main reason. That’s also one of the reasons Lin’s jersey sales are so high. I tried buying NY Giants scrimmage shirts this year and the popular players like Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul were all sold out. It’s f*cking impossible to out-shop New York fans…

  • carp

I wonder how much more Kobe jerseys sold after tonight’s “Home Replica for $27.90 honoring Kobe’s scoring average”… Tried copping one myself, but every size was sold out after 20 minutes..

  • LeBrOn 4 MvP!

my boy at nomba 4! yeyah!! WHAATTT!?

  • FT9

You guys just don’t get the Lin thing. His jersey was shipped to 24 countries in two months. 24. That’s not just China. It’s Europe, Latin America, Africa, even Australia. Lin is hot news EVERYWHERE. Might be a bitter pill for some to swallow but the facts are the facts.

With fan voting biggieman, Lin will start at PG over rose next season and Yao in the east would likely have started over Dwight Howard

  • JTWilliams

Jeremy Lin, please! I’ve never seen such a media hype machine. The guy will NEVER even get a real NBA contract (unless the Knicks are stupid as hell and give him millions this summer). He’s never going to get the Eastern conference start over D-Rose. Rose is absolutely among the most popular players in the L (3rd overall in 2012 all-star voting- only behind D. Howard (for obvious reasons)and Kobe).

I vote for LeBron James. He’s my favorite player.

You don’t have a Rose jersey unless you look at new brand Authentic Z-Zip-a-tee Zip-up Jerseys at http://www.z-zipatee.com
