Golden State Warriors: First Team in NBA History to Start 5 Rookies

The tank-fastic Golden State Warriors made history last night, by trotting out a starting lineup of first-year players. (Shockingly, this strategy resulted in a loss.) From the AP: “The Golden State Warriors became the first NBA team in modern history to start five rookies in one game for their season finale against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night. With a roster decimated by injuries, coach Mark Jackson fielded a unit of guards Klay Thompson and Charles Jenkins, forwards Chris Wright and Jeremy Tyler, and Mickell Gladness at center. Thompson, Jenkins and Tyler are all Warriors draft picks, while Wright was a training camp invitee and Gladness joined the team after signing a 10-day contract earlier this month. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, which has been tracking the stat since the 1970-71 season, it’s the first time an NBA team has started five rookies in a game.”

Warriors lead league in history of playing most 10 day, undrafted, guys ever I think. The city is great but they suck like heck.

Who do you think you are, Calipari?

Patty Mills went nuts on them. 34,12,5,1,1. You know you’re a bum squad when a fringe player/10th man like Mills wrecks shop on you.

And I’m not saying Mills is a bad player here, just putting it into perspective.

Mills is a quality point guard and could start on a lot of teams

Most teams don’t even have 5 rookies.

BTW, weren’t they trying to lose to keep their draft pick (I was only half paying attention to whatever they said about his on TNT last night). Something to do with a trade they made.

Missed the game last night… Was surprised to see Chris Wright with 25, he had some nice highlights on nba.com. Mills was playing against a team of rookies mostly though in a 7 man-roation (with Mikki Moore). We wewre trying to lose as Mike mentioned. We needed to lose for (tying) the seventh spot. Anything better then that, and Utah has our pick. Now for the tie breaker with Toronto.

This is how a college team would fare against an NBA team.
