JJ Barea on the Timberwolves: ‘We Have a Lot of Guys That Don’t Care’

JJ Barea teed off on his Timberwolves teammates after Minnesota’s latest defeat on Sunday night, accusing some of not caring enough, and called for major roster changes this summer. From the Star Tribune: “Before Sunday’s game with Golden State at Target Center, the Timberwolves announced forward Kevin Love would not play again this season. After the Wolves had blown a 21-point second-quarter lead in a 93-88 loss, Wolves guard J.J. Barea suggested some of his teammates might already have stopped caring. ‘We’ve got problems here,’ Barea said after his team shot 10-for-40 in the second half and struggled on defense. ‘We have a lot of guys that don’t care. On a basketball team, when you have a bunch of guys who don’t care, it’s tough to win games. We’re going to keep getting [losses] here until we get players that care about winning, about the team, about the fans.’”

i hate when players do that. you knew when you signed the contract that minnesota was a terrible team. the only reason you signed there was because they offered more money than everybody else (and they perhaps now regret it).

Uhm, yeah. it’s too late to call out teamates JJ, maybe if you done this when the team had a shot to actually do something, like training camp and get guys fired up then it’d been different. But then again, maybe not.

@t-money, you’re right that they might regret signing him. But things have changed a bit since rubio went down and Love got hurt. they’ve lost so many games and I believe that, that is what he’s talking about here. So to say that he knew doesn’t make sense, because they were pretty good before the injuries.

jj should of went to NY.

  • lol Derrick Williams minutes increase and he gets called out for playing like crap by both Barrea and Adelman. So much for his “work ethic” and “potential”. The guy played every game this season and put together 3 decent ones. He doesn’t even have the value to be traded for a high pick anymore.

minnesota needs to move a lot of deadweight. they have too many guys playing at about the same level, there needs to be a separation between your starters, your bench and your practice squad. it seems like everyone is interchangeable save for rubio, love and pek.

ald – not to be rude, but how can it possibly make sense to write “should of” or “could of”? i’ve never been able to understand that mistake.

  • Pais

@T-money – not everyone one is an avid reader, as such they spell things how they sound. A lot of people abbreviate ‘should have’ to ‘should’ve’ which sounds like ‘should of’.

We don’t care either JJ… we dont care either

  • ab40

the four who care the least for the wolves are: Darko, Randolph, Beasly and the man who could stand in for Dave Chapelle in the Nutty Professor Webster.

  • RunNGun

    Deadweight… needs to be moved.

  • @ab40

I think Derrick Williams and Darko are the worst. Darko just gave up on his teammates and is absolutely useless. Williams doesn’t care and is more concerned with looking “cool” than actually playing and then he goes on twitter and complains about the coaching staff. Randolph was on the bench all season and has played better with increased minutes. Webster tries hard but he sucks. Beasley struggled with injuries all season and has still put together some good game and contributed a lot more than any of the other players mentioned.

Hey JJ, if YOU cared about winning you WOULD HAVE taken less money and signed with a contender instead of the perennial bottom dwellers in Minny.

  • Yikes

Only four players play their hearts out in Min… Love, Rubio, Pek, JJ… Everyone else should learn from them or get out of this TEAM…

Does that also include the alleged “best” PF in the NBA?

How can JJ talk about players not caring about winning when he left a team that just won a championship for Sota?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Yeah there have been allot of guys in the L to put up 26-14 without caring…

  • Startown

Throw out any teams top 3 players and see if the team still competes. This team was above .500 until Rubio was hurt, next year with Rubio in playoffs

  • JoeMaMa

If you sign for the most money, that doesn’t mean you don’t care about the team you play for. It means you want to make several more million, and go hard in your new situation. JJ’s a competitor, and he wasn’t saying this when the Wolves were playing hard and winning. When Rubio went down, the losses started piling up, a few players probably quit, and he didn’t like that, so he put them on blast. I definitely wouldn’t call JJ a lazy player; he scrapped hard to get into the league, to get PT, and to get a contract. I haven’t heard anyone call him out this year for slacking.

JJ has been described as a small cancerous mole in the locker room.

  • LA Huey

I love JTaylor’s vendetta against Kevin Love. I theorize it’s because the NBA2K version screws him over a lot.
JJ is not in the position to criticize his teammates like that. The only person that’s earned that right is Kevin Love and Rick Adelman.

  • http://slamonline.com Jones

They stopped caring the minute Ricky Rubio got hurt and their playoff hopes died.

  • Exile

Don’t judge a man for hoping for a little professionalism and leaving Dallas has nothing to do with it. He wants effort and heart from people he thinks can do a lot more than they care to. This would be easier to swallow if it came from the leader of the room, but sometimes you need to stand up and he is a “hustle” player.
