Kevin Durant: LeBron James ‘Deserves’ to Win MVP

LeBron James’ main rival for the MVP award this season, Kevin Durant, concedes that LBJ should win the big prize. From the Oklahoman: “LeBron James’ closest competitor for the 2012 NBA Most Valuable Player award says the Miami Heat star deserves to win it. ‘He deserves all the love (for MVP),’ said Thunder forward Kevin Durant. ‘He’s playing phenomenal basketball. I’m just trying to get better every single game and trying to help my team as much as I can. I’m just blessed to be in that conversation.’”

    KD is such a pro.

  • bmorezbest

i concur with that statement KD knows lebron plays D and he doesn’t lol but if he adds that to his game he will become legendary

  • Geoff

If KD can see, why can’t the Lebron haters?

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

I hate Lebron, but he should be unanimously MVP this year. All of the other contenders either fell off (due to injury or otherwise) or cooled down. Lebron has been great. But MVPs don’t mean jack in the playoffs, so let’s see what the Heat can do there.

  • greg

durant doesnt want it because he knows the mvp rarely wins the ring

  • IndyB

    unless its MJ

  • stryf

@greg only Barkley, Malone, Nash, Lebron, Iverson, & Rose were the only mvp’s who have never won a ring. And I believe at least Lebron & Rose will win at least once

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Second year in a row that Kevin Durant has been the favorite to win the MVP but came up short of doing so.

  • Dennis

LBJ does deserve it..although there stats are similar with a 2 assist difference, lebron could very well win the defensive POY away, and his team has the better record. Westbrook is the reason durant doesnt win mvp, but without him, OKC would not have the record they have now

  • logues

stryf: pretty sure kobe won mvp the year the celtics beat them in 2008

  • robb

    oh man he’s so humble

  • slamfan4life

    Real MVP = KOBE

    just sayyin

  • quest

I meant as in winning the MVP and the chip in the same season. While on the subject of the thunders title hopes has a PG ever scored as much as westbrook and won a ring? Just wondering but I dont think so. I could see him try to win the finals MVP and make them lose

  • Mack

Nooooooo KD knows he’s the real MVP, he’s lead his team to the top of the West which last time I checked isn’t too easy a task

  • bmorezbest

@mack last time i checked the best record in the west doesn’t mean anything once the playoffs start ijs….Lebron is hands down an all around better player than KD and a better PG than westbrook thats a 2 for 1

  • GC6

Add defensive player of the year to his list, as much as I hate to say this Lebron is in a class of his own, also if Kevin Love has won more games I would give him consideration

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I f*cking HATE that same response to every question!!! “I’m just trying to get better every day and help my teammates win.” EVERY BASKETBALL PLAYER SAYS THIS TO EVERY QUESTION. SHUT UP!!!

  • Jerome

Nobody would say they are the best player in the world. KD is the MVP as far as I’m concerned. Who would you rather have take the last second shot for the win?

  • Brahsef

@Jerome Last shot of the game…Melo

And he’s not even in the conversation. There’s more to the game than the last shot

  • Feez_22

@Jerome if that’s the criteria you base MVP on, Chris paul, Carmelo Anthony and Kobe Bryant would be the top 3 MVP candidates. Durant isn’t even as close to being clutch as those 3 according to the stats… In fact, according to clutch stats, Durant and lebron are even in the no clutch dept. So…

  • Jerome

My statement was based on KD sayin Bron is this year’s MVP. KD over Bron All day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuSBzEAG9k4

  • Dingo Rob

No doubt about it, its possible that he will win a championship, MVP, Defensive player,

  • Dingo Rob

No doubt about it, its possible that he will win a championship, MVP, defensive player of the year and finals MVP this year and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

  • wargames27

I am not a LBJ fan but i can respect his game. MVP is an award he could win almost every year. He is the best all-around player in the world. @ Jerome if it’s the last shot of the game i want Kobe taking it, if not him then Melo. Their offensive repertoire is more diverse than LBJ or Durant.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Kevin lost all of my respect by saying he feels another player deserves an MVP over him. What kind of dumb stuff is this. I hate this NBA with players loving each other, playing with friends because its fun, saying another top player should win stuff over them. This NBA is SOFT. Lebron is not defensive MVP, anybody who thinks this doesnt watch basketball. Ibalka and Chandler are better. Howard is better, AI, Rondo and others. Man this NBA sucks. Go Lakers, Kobe, Melo, CP3 and Tony Parker should be the top 4 MVP candidates. BOOK IT!!

  • 23

Seed, there’s a difference between “love” and respect. Clearly durant realizes that LeBron is the best right now, and he respects that. I’ve seen videos of them working out together and I would definitely NOT use the word love to describe their relationship.

  • Jerome

KD has been the most consistent of any players mentioned. Parker is a close second.

  • http://slamonline.com Michael

Seed, you’re an idiot. Book that.

  • Cheema

lol at this joker “Jerome”. u got no clue about ball. Durant pulled out an epic choke job yesterday!

  • http://kb24.com x-DrEw_MaiN-x

I’m a fan of Kobe & the Lakers but Kevin Durant deserves to win MVP this year for sure. LeBron already has 2 MVP awards, why not someone else who’s more deserving this year.

  • Zoom

I have so much respect for KD he even admitted that Bron deserves MVP. LBJ all day been a loyal fan since Cleveland!

  • http://kb24.com x-DrEw_MaiN-x

opponents are shooting 17% when LBJ is playing one on one that’s impressive

  • http://www.thedynastyboys.com lix

@ x-DrEw_MaiN-x: Who is more deserving? Lebron’s team has a better record, his stats are better, he’s been an infinitely better defender, and slightly more valuable to his team than Durant. Just because he’s won it before shouldn’t disqualify him.

  • Mtothes

Derek fisher for MVP we got a damn season!

Bron deserves it. True ballers can see through the hate. Thats right SEED. You can’t. Book it!

  • IamYOU

Bron does deserve it! durant is just telling the truth!fan who hates lebron doesn’t want to accept it.. smh

  • http://www.starting5.com.au NM30

    Mtothes lol
    For the record
KD MVP this year believe it

  • ctkennedy

Durant shouldnt even be second …that goes to CP3…the ONLY PROBLEM so to speak i got with givin Bron the MVP is …Rose done miss over a 1/3 of the season n the Heat STILL didnt win the East ..smh

  • Easy E

    LeBron= Most

  • http://slamonline.com Nella

What does positioning matter if the Bulls are gonna lose to the Heat anyway?

  • angeli

LeBron is the clear MVP. @ SEED, what games are you watching? WNBA? It seems that you’ve lost in touch with NBA or your BBall IQ is just too low. Book it.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCJwoEHRU_A&feature=related TheKid

The Title is wrong. In Kd’s quote he never says he outright deserves MVP. All he says is that all the love he’s been getting is just
