Pau Gasol Described Getting Dunked on By Blake Griffin as a ‘Hit-and-Run’

The Lakers may have pulled out the big intra-city win last night, but all anyone wants to discuss are the two monster jams by Blake Griffin, which victimized Pau Gasol. The Laker big describes what that awful experience was like. Per ESPN: “You don’t really see what happened,’ Gasol said. ‘It was quick, a hit-and-run kind of thing, right? The ball went in, I was on my ass, I woke up, I stood up and told the referee I had a f*cking forearm on my face, on my throat, and that’s something that needs to be looked at. But it happened too quick. I didn’t realize.’ While Gasol was still trying to figure out what had happened, the entire Clippers bench was jumping up and down before spending the next couple of minutes trying to decide where Griffin’s dunk on Gasol ranked on his ever-growing list of highlights. ‘It was crazy,’ Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe said. ‘The bench actually tried to compare it to the Perkins dunk. They said [the one on Gasol] was better. We’ll see, though. That was another YouTube highlight. … It can definitely [throw a player off], especially when you know you’re gonna be all over ‘SportsCenter’ tomorrow.’ Gasol admitted he probably would watch the dunk, if nothing else to see what everyone, including his teammates, was talking about after the game. ‘I’ll probably watch it, just because,’ Gasol said with a smile. ‘I don’t really have a great desire of watching it. But my teammates told me it was a pretty impressive play.’ […] As he stood in the center of the Clippers’ locker room after the game wearing a Bo Jackson T-shirt, the last thing Griffin was focused on was his poster-worthy dunks in the game. ‘I hoped it would give us momentum,’ Griffin said. ‘It might have. I don’t know, but we’re not really thinking about that now. We’re not thinking about a dunk that didn’t mean anything. I have to play better than I did.’ Despite finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds, Griffin had hit only three of 10 shots outside of his two dunks midway through the third quarter and was not nearly as aggressive as he needed to be. It might have been overlooked if the Clippers had won the game but it was something Griffin talked to coaches and teammates about after the game. ‘It was an exciting play,’ said Clippers guard Chris Paul, who finished with 22 points and 16 assists. ‘But at the end of the day, we lost, so who cares?’”

Yeah i would say hit-and-run sums it up pretty nicely.

  • angus

foul or no foul, pau got destroyed and it was hilarious

  • vtrobot

    More like vehicular homicide.

Blake was just showin Gasol how to dunk like a big man, exercising none of that tippy toe prima donna ish & VEHICULAR HOMOCIDE WINS !

  • TheTwoTimer

    4 Letters S-O-F-T!

  • Da man

Gasol gonna think twice before jumpin with griffin again.

That was just uncalled for. He put his elbow in his neck and then mugged him down. Then he wonders why he gets hard fouls.

  • Yogooch

BOTH dunks were fouls! Someone is is gonna take Blake’s legs out from under him one day, you’ll see…

I thought it was an offensive foul. I’m a Lakers fan though, so I may be biased. I also understand how on a play like that it would be tough for a ref to call it an offensive foul and take the dunk away from Griffin.
Whether or not you think the forearm was an offensive foul, the fact that Griffin was able to take that contact and still finish the dunk is pretty incredible. It’s amazing to watch in slow motion.

SOFT in spanish means TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION. I guess you lost that in translation. The Lakers are going to pick up Jason Smith for the post season. Ron-Ron, Barnes & Bynum,if there has ever been a collective group of short fused characters I’d be surprised and NO ONE steps it up for their teammate. Anyways when Pau gets his third ring he can dedicate to Blake’s bum knees. Two-three years tops of this kind of highlights before he becomes what Vince Carter is today.

  • Aqwordsgey

That tippy toe primaddona led the Lakers to back to back championships. I doubt Griffin will ever win one unless he gets out of the Clips. He can be the king of dunks all day. We’ll take the rings.

  • @boweezy24

Yeah Players Pry Say They Arent Going to Call Him For A Foul, So They’ll Show Him a Foul!

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

It was obviously an offensive foul but see all the kiddies who are PUMPED about the dunk? Yeah, no chance the league is gonna call that.

I’m a big Laker fan but come on Mas don’t get butt hurt by the dunk. Gasol is softer than toilet paper that’s a fact. You bringing up his rings is irrelevant to the argument of him being soft. And if they have such defensive teammates who will stick up for him why was Bynum damn near laughing at him? Bottom line is it was a sick dunk and we all know Pau has two titles but he’s still soft no debate.

  • Rainman

i for one am definitely NOT a Laker Fan, and they (probably both, but definitely the second) were Fouls.

Great dunk on gasol, better than the perkins jam
but this guy needs to develop his game. He’s a 1
Dimensional player, and IMO id rather have a
Demarcus Cousins type player on my team that can
put up 15/10 a night, than this guy who has no jumpshot
    At all

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

^I’m sorry, but why would you want Cousins over Blake? If your argument is based on stats or jumpshots, I don’t see it at all. One of those players gets at least SOME wins for his team and it’s not the one on the 19-35 team.

    Soft players win rings too.
-Caboose: I’d take DMC over Blake today. Not sure who will be the better pro, but DMC is so much more skilled it’s not funny. BG is athlete first. DMC is a skilled ball player first.

  • EJ

BG is way better than Cousins. And when you’re talking about potential, I’d say there’s a much bigger chance of Blake developing a skill set equal to Cousins’, than Cousins getting the athletic ability of Blake.

  • LAguneroFan

Can someone please explain why Pau Gasol is SOFT. And after you do, please explain how a SOFT guy is so much better at his job than you are at yours. Hahahaha.

  • Rob

And I was thinking the same thing about cousins but realized he has no heart

  • Tee11

Both plays were fouls, if anyone didn’t see that, than that person do not know basketball…And soft, where does been hard takes you or give you,… cuz soft have gaven Gasol two rings….I’m not a Laker fan but and elbow in his neck and then mugged him down should have been called..SHAME ON THE OFFICIALS, they should be fined sometime just like players for bad calls like that…..

  • Old Long Johnson

lol @ all of the butt hurt laker fans.

  • LAguneroFan

^ what doea someones butt hurting have something to do with a game. if anything paus butt hurt when he hit the floor…

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

Nice dunk, Pau got banged on, but at the end of the day, to win a game I want Pau on my team over Blake…

  • iLL wiLL

Was much more impressive than the one on Perk. Gasol got laid out like a little witch.

  • Rnz

Im not a Laker or a Clipper fan, but I dont think that the second dunk was a foul, Gasol was jumping at BG’s elbow….classy response by Gasol though
