Polladaday: Coach of the Year?

Some coaches have done a ton with very little, while others have pushed their teams forward when the odds seemed stacked against them. Which sideline stalker do you think deserves the COY award this year?

Who is 2011-12's Coach of the Year?

i never seen same coach get this award back to back. i think scott brooks
and mike brown (for putting up with the team and fans) should get the consideration.

Memphis are a legit contender my vote goes to Coach Hollins.

  • Yep

How is Pop not in this poll?

  • jrgougeon

    Coach Pop

    Pop, or Thibs.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

My vote was for Collins about a month ago… yeahhh…

  • Eric

    Mike Woodson.

It’s Poppovich or Thibs no doubt about it. It was Doug Collins before mid-way through March… I do think Tyrone Corbin is 3rd, him, Collins, or Doc Rivers

    Other – Kobe

    Y’all forgot FRANK VOGEL too

  • triyo

  • Scott

Greg Popovich! I’m not a spurs fan, but to manage their minutes and strategy and have them in the #1 spot in the west deserves at least a mention in this poll

  • Groves

  • chrizt

POP… did you forget the greatest coach of the 20th century?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Pop as always. A month ago I would have said Kevin McHale, but… that depends on whether or not Houston makes the playoffs. I’m going with Pop like I do pretty much every year, lol. Then Hollins, I suppose.

  • Bo Bice

Steve Harvey himself Mike Woodson of the New York Knickerbockers. At least the nba could award an interim coach of the year award

    Pop or Collins.

Pop or Thib, they’ve kept the results coming in even when starters and stars have been out.
Personally for Thib the bulls kept rolling without Rose and didn’t look lost.

  • Joe

Not even a mention for Scott Brooks and I see people saying Woodson, come on!

  • Naptown Bear

    Frank Vogel

  • tuxo

    where’s pop?

  • Connor

Are you kidding me Frank Vogel is coach of the year he brought Indiana from the 8th team in the east to the 3rd in the east and to be fair they are not nearly as good as Miami or Chicago but they are still one of the top teams in the east

  • Greg

2012 NBA coach of the year should be Gregg Popovich. The aging Spurs has overtaken the OKC in the standings.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

Popovich. What he’s been able to do resting his players and maintaining supremacy in the West – you can’t ignore that.

  • cts

    Gregg Popovich

I gotta give it to Thibs. He didn’t have Derrick Rose anchoring his team and he still stays winning.

*I meant Derrick Rose has been injured a lot lately.

Scott Brooks doesn’t deserve any COY consideration.

  • EJD

It’s a joke to not have Pop or Frank Vogel on this poll. But I’d definitely give it to Vogel. He resurrected the Pacers and made them legit.

  • Ldub

its been said numerous times…how do the #1 seeded spurs and Coach Pop not get an consideration?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

    Pop, not even close.

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

as usual… the spurs are ignored until later when you fear them most.

    Coach Pop

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

I really hope the Thunder win the championship this year just so NBK will stfu lol.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Honestly though Holy, if you had Pop coach the Thunder, they’d go about 56-10 this year…

    paul silas!!! FTW!!!!

Frank Vogel not even mentioned by name, are you kidding me?

In his first full year as a head coach, takes the team from 8th to 3rd? It’s clear from the comments the players make that Vogel is a huge part of their improvement.

  • T Burns

Frank Vogel should be getting serious consideration for the job he is doing in Indy. He has coached that team from a team that sneaks into the playoffs to an Eastern Conf contender and a 3 seed in the East, something that no one besides Pacer Nation expected (and even a lot of them were doubtful). When you look at his performance this season head to head against the other coaches receiving consideration, he has beaten them all at least once (He beat Pop and Brooks in his only opportunity to do so, it should be noted). If you want to give the trophy to someone with the most wins on the year that led their team to do what was expected, then I say Pop, Brooks, Thibs would be solid choices. To me though, it’s much more noteworthy to take a young team that was expected to compete, with no true superstars, get them to buy in and understand what they need to do every night in order to have success, and secure a top 3 seed and home court in the playoffs.
