Report: Lakers Fined Andrew Bynum for ‘Numerous Infractions’

Problems stemming from Andrew Bynum‘s on-and-off-the-court behavior in Laker Nation are no secret, and now, a report from ESPN states that the team has fined the big man (who won’t be suiting up for tonight’s game due to a left ankle sprain) for his actions: “Bynum recently was fined an undisclosed amount for ‘numerous infractions,’ multiple sources confirmed. One of the stunts that warranted the fine from the team was Bynum blowing off a meeting with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak. Bynum said he was unaware of the fine before getting into his car outside the Lakers practice facility and driving away after the team’s shootaround in preparation for their game against the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday. Bynum did tell the website, though, he will not play in Tuesday night’s game after suffering a moderate sprain of his left ankle in the first quarter of a game against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. The sprain did not require an MRI on Monday and X-rays on Bynum’s ankle were negative, but Bynum did not participate in the Lakers’ shootaround on Tuesday. Bynum used the shootaround time for treatment, which included anti-inflammatory medicine. Lakers coach Mike Brown had said Bynum’s status would be a game-time decision. ‘I can’t play,’ Bynum said while wearing tape around his left ankle. ‘Hopefully (Wednesday against the Clippers).’”

Anyone else noticed that he’s acting more like Kobe now?

I can’t stand this guy. I can’t decide who has the worst attitude in the league, Bynum, Cousins, or Odom. All horrible examples of good athletes.

Odom? Wtf…I was with you til after Cousins.

    Marc Gasol

The Lakers patiently developed this guy for years, stood by him when he was injured, paid him well and what do they get in return once Bynum actually starts playing ok (I won’t say well because I think he’s very lazy on defense)? A prima donna. Unbelievable.

-Allen, It’s your choice man. I’m not trying to force feed Bynum down your throat. Once again, this is not Miss Congeniality… This is basketball.

    -IF Player A) is who you want… congrats. You can have him. He’s good for 38.1Min .485 FG%, 9.7 Reb, 3.0 AST, 1.0 STL, 1.8 BLKS, 2.1 TOV 15.5

-Personally i’ll go with player B) He’s been known to not show up for meetings, but since this is basketball and not politics, I go with him who in 35 mins puts in .58% of his FG’s.(Notice:10% greater than Player A) Grabs 12 Boards.(Notice: 2 more boards in less mins played) 1.5AST 2.0Blks 2.6TOV While pouring in 18PPG as a 2nd/3rd option.

-Not offended either way. I take Bynum. You take Gasol. Cool beans.

Odom? Ok, this year he as looked disinterested but a bad attitude? Look at the last ten years of his career, you got guys like Pat Riley, PJ and coach K who all rave about his professionalism and leadership, that’s a pretty good reference. Which is another reason I believe he needs to take a leave of absence this year, he has nothing to offer and he is clearly mentally drained.

Fisher hasnt been gone a month and already chaos errups. Somebody needs to be put back in this place

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Hey at least he’s not hurt….. I mean, having your second best player act like a child all year is not so bad, he could have blown out his knee again. Right? Hopefully Bynum can at least put on a facade of being mature during the playoffs….

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    EXACTLY lol.

  • tomtom

Lol Nbk saying what all us laker fans are thinkin he can do whatever he wants as long as he puts up numbers.

  • http://www.yahoo.com berkamore

The Lakers are in for a bumpy ride. P-Jax gone, Fisher gone, Kobe gone in another 3-4 years…..Can you imagine what the Lakers are going to be like with Jim Buss calling the shots and Bynum as the Franchise Player? I mean, they proabably won’t win any championships but the soap opera will be endless.

I’m sorry, I should have amended my statement to include “this year.” Outside of Odom’s crybaby season this year, he’s been fantastic. But yeah, I suppose DMC and Barea-hater are on a whole different level.

At first I was against the trade to Orlando for Dwight but now I wouldn’t hesistate. Bynaum head is too big.

  • vtrobot

I’ll take Gasol. It’s called chemistry. At least Kobe has always had otherworldly skillz to balance out his dickishness. Bynum ain’t close to that yet. He is a gigantic child.

  • Heals

Lay off DeMac, dudes been MUCH better since the coaching change. Don’t keep bringing him up as if it’s still 2 months ago. Not saying he’s turned the corner quite yet, but he’s trying…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Bynum isn’t immature. He is an a-hole. One is correctable the other is not.

  • shutup

Maybe Bynum is doing this on purpose so other teams dont stay interested in him. Acting like this has to lower his trade value.

  • The Great Mambino

It’s amazing how even though he’s been injury prone his entire career, Bynum just made himself more untradeable despite this being his healthiest season ever. We wrote a bit about how we thought that maybe we’re getting the feeling that the Bynum-Kobe combo could underachieve, and that was even before the suspension. Read more here, but great post! – http://thegreatmambino.blogspot.com/2012/03/andrew-bynum-future-of-lakers-and.html

SO this is how the lakers treat the best center in the world. WOOOOW

  • bill

    Andrew “Bad Legs” Bynum

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

He does know they can still trade him in the off-season, right? Treating Coach Grimace..err..Coach Brown disrepectfully is such a LeBron thing to do.

  • Detroit Dave

LOL @ Lakeshow…dis ni99a Bynum a clown, cuzz can be sumthin GREAT- I member cuzz was HYPE when he *boomed* on Shaq his rookie season? (after gettin *BOOMED* on)- i was like THIS ni99a right HERE got heart…

  • Selwyn ( UK )

Bynum is playing Russian Roulette with Mike Brown’s job. He knows the Coach will get fired, and Bynum will get back in line. But right now he just wants to ; “get my Zen on”

  • ClydeSays

Sorry, Bynum. Kobe’s got this a-hole thing all locked up. You’re gonna have to find another personality. How about ‘nice dude, hardworker, doesn’t complain’?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Bynum will pay this fine like he paid that ticket for double-parking in a handicap spot… With complete douchebaggery.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I do hope he stays healthy though. I did not see him having this good of a season, and throwback big men are a rare treat these days in the NBA.
