Tyson Chandler ‘Ready to Represent’ USA at the Olympics

Andrew Bynum and Dwight Howard aren’t options for USA Basketball at the Olympic Games this summer, but Tyson Chandler says he’s ready to hold down the fort in their stead. Per the NY Post: “Chandler, who was not selected to the 2008 Olympic gold-medal team but played for Team USA in the 2010 World Championships, was named one of the 20 finalists in January. His new NBA championship ring and solid season with the Knicks have him as a mortal lock when Team USA’s 12-man roster is selected in late May. ‘I’m definitely ready to represent my country,’ Chandler said. ‘I’m very excited. Just to be able to be considered for the USA team is a blessing and something I’m very proud of. I committed myself when I joined in 2007. I still feel that way.’ Chandler was snubbed for the 2012 All-Star Game — he has never made it — but the groundswell for his Defensive Player of the Year candidacy is growing fast. In the three games he has missed, the Knicks have allowed 112, 118, 119 points. Chandler also should earn placement on one of the three All-NBA teams.”

“Chandler also should earn placement on one of the three All-NBA teams” Is he really a top 3 centre in the NBA?

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Tyson Chandler is so underrated LLC#12…I wouldn’t want Bynum or Howard over Chandler. I don’t care what the stats say. The leadership qualities he brings to the table are invaluable. Simply put, Chandler is a champ, and ‘m glad he’s a Knick. He’s exceeded all of my expectations.

You only saying that because he on the knicks @Orange

Dungeon Family, I am not saying that just because he’s a Knick. I’ve just gained a new appreciation for what a player he is. Moke Hamilton wrote an amazing article on him at Sherridan Hoops…Click my name and read it.

top 5 center for sure right now, it’s hard for me to put him over marc gasol, but chandler brings a lot of intangibles

Orange, Bynum I can understand, but you wouldn’t take Dwight over Tyson if the deal was offered?

Da_Meat_Hook I know Dwight Howard is an amazing player, but I’ll stick with Tyson Chandler. That’s who I want to win with.

Team USA Is going to be very tough defensively, between ‘Bron and Tyson there should be no position that can’t be shut down If needed. Who’s going to be the backup centre then?

  • Da-Meat-Hook

I think Chandler has the leadership and willingness to sacrifice that every team needs, but I think Dwight on that roster turns them into a 3rd or 4th seed overnight. I agree that Tyson is a top 5 center, but IMHO he’s a better fit for this Knicks squad than Bynum or Gasol.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Paul H, I’m guessing they slide Bosh to the 5 similar to what they did in ’08.

Happy to hear this. He’s someone I’d be very proud to have represent us. The other day one of those talking heads on tv, can’t remember which one, called Dwight Howard the best defensive center in the league. It may be true, but I wouldn’t say it with such certainty because this man is completely committed to and understands not only playing defense individually, but bringing his teammates along as well.

Leave it up to Knick fans to overrate TC and treat him like the second coming of Wilt.

  • http://slamonline.com Nella

Leave it up to Taylor to d*ckride anything the ONE Knick fan here says.

  • bike

It’s becoming more and more apparent that who you want is someone who really wants to be there. TC sounds like he appreciates the opportunity, doesn’t feel he should be paid, and should be a great defensive presence.

Its funny how….Tyson Chandler is up for Team USA here and yet, Roy Hibbert – an NBA All Star centre this year – doesn’t appear on Team USA’s radar. Its also not like Roy got a bunch of popularity votes to become that all-start this year. Food for thought.

I wouldn’t put tyson chandler over marc gasol. I guess he’s a top 5 center but still… and if you got tyson chandler for dwight howard you better make that trade immediately. why has tyson chandler never tried to get a post game?

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

alf IDK if roy hibbert protects the rim as well as Team USA needs him too, honestly. that would be my reason why he can’t make the roster.

  • JC

Go TC! Lucky he isn’t a Mav anymore. Cuban won’t let him return without a paycheck, made out to him of course.

  • gusisit

can they add anyyone to that 20 man roster? because if they can they should add roy hibbert, who is probably 4th bestg centre in the leage in front of tc but behind gasol, bynum and d12

  • silver_bullet

^^^following on from gusisit – if they can add to the 20 man roster how about Greg Monroe?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Alf

we need to throw Marc Gasol out of this conversation….granted, Marc might better than Tyson or Roy (but that’s another debate).
In context of this conversation, Marc plays for Team Spain no?
