Wizards Waive Roger Mason Jr, Sign James Singleton For Season

Roger Mason Jr played his best game of the season on March 15, scoring 19 points off the bench, but during that tilt he also injured his finger, and as a result will now have season-ending surgery and lose his roster spot. In a seemingly related matter, the Wizards have signed James Singleton for the remainder of the year. More via the Washington Post: “Roger Mason Jr. had waited too long for an opportunity to make his second stint with the Wizards worthwhile. Seldom-used under Flip Saunders and starting to make headway around the all-star break, Mason suffered a setback on the same day he received the ultimate opening and Nick Young was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. Mason scored a season-high 19 points and helped guide the Wizards to a 99-89 win over the New Orleans Hornets — but he also suffered an avulsion fracture in his left index finger. He played the next 18 games despite the injury, wearing tape over his injured finger and scoring in double digits eight times, but the pain suddenly became too unbearable. After scoring just three points in a loss to Cleveland on Saturday, Mason elected to have surgery to and effectively end his season. Mason said he would have the procedure on Monday in New York, while the Wizards plan to waive the eight-year veteran shooting guard and use his roster spot to add another back-court player for the final six games of the season. … The Wizards (14-46) also signed forward James Singleton for the remainder of the season. Singleton signed a 10-day contract on April 5 and averaged 9.8 points and 7.7 rebounds in six games for the team.”

Pretty shitty to waive someone that got injured while wearing your uniform, Washington.

Correction: Roger Mason Jr,’s best game was him dropping bombs on LA in that comeback win.

This seems shady. Pretty sure Roger Mason has played in a bunch of games since 3/15.

Yeah like I should have read, he played in 18 games since, and all of a sudden he’s in too much pain to play?

@dfrance21 you never had a bad finger injury have you? since you need your hands to catch the ball and shoot the ball, it is so easy to aggravate an injury if you keep on playing. anything from a hard pass or someone slapping your injured finger/hand… when reading this news, like they say on the court “don’t reach”
