Andrew Bynum: Lakers Will Win Championship If They Play Defense

After finally eliminating those pesky and terrifying Denver Nuggets, Andrew Bynum likes his team’s chances at grabbing another ring this summer. But only on one condition. From the OC Register: “Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum in Game 7 became the first teammates in NBA playoff history to combine for at least 30 points, 30 rebounds, 20 offensive rebounds and 10 blocks in a game. Steve Blake concluded after Gasol’s Game 7: ‘You saw the hunger.’ And Gasol will need to bring that intensity much earlier in [the Thunder] series. ‘Got to continue to play the same way,’ Gasol said. Bynum vowed to stay focused on defense first, seeing at least four blocks each game from him as a key to advancing now and later. He also offered a defense-focused declaration. ‘We’ll win this championship,” Bynum said, ‘if we commit to defense.’”

Isn’t that true for every team in the playoffs?

  • jose

The Knicks players are looking at this like “Oh,Is that how you do it?”

  • ThunderGun

he’s right , the only way they’ll win is if they play hungry every night…hope he does commit to defense

  • Mike

This should be titled Andrew Bynum: if Durant Westbrook and Harden don’t show up lakers will advance

  • riggs

better say I before you say We

Lakers have a chance to win championship if BYNUM plays CONSISTENT defense. (Even Phil Jackson basically said the same thing when he was interviewed). And good luck with OKC, Bynum will probably be picked and rolled to death so we’ll see if he can play defense for seven games.

  • TownRoyal88

Bynum is confused. This is an obvious statement.

In other news, the Bobcats will win the championship if the play…aagh never mind.

  • Ldub

So pushing Ty Lawson almost like he pushed JJ last year is defense? AND when is he going to cut his hair? Or at least dye all that grey! He looks like POPS from Friday! Ridiculous…making all that money and cant get/keep a decent cut!

  • finnthehuman

@Ldub supposedly he’s growing an afro

  • Ldub

Well then at least keep it neat and clean cut. You can have a nice, clean fro. Look at AI when he was in the L. From a fade, to the mini fro to the AFRO! And all of them were clean. He just looks Nappy. CUT THAT ISH/Line it up!!!

  • bike

He should change ‘we’ to ‘I’ when he says ‘if we commit to defense’.

Why does someone always gotta hate on my Knicks? I mean, the article doesn’t even mention the Knicks…

  • l2ising Phoenix

@Jose. Knicks are top 5 I believe in defensive efficiency, soooo yea…

  • ClydeSays

“And when I say ‘we’, I meant those other guys. I can’t do whatever the f#$% I want…”

  • bdogg

bynum should keep his trap shut..does he learn anything..he opened his mouth up in game 5 and look what happened…talk is cheap unless he backs it up!

  • Yesse

I hope he includes himself on the statement when he says “we”.

  • lakernation

Dis Dude is a tool bruh! he’s just reiterating what coach Brown said… I dont know why he acts like he understands the game cause he dont. He’s still a kid, he’s making me think that he belongs in the special olympics.

  • bell54bb78

lakers over celtics in 7,,hang a banner in staples, lakers are now going to explode and play the way they are capable of playing now that bynum and gasol got an earful from kobe and mwp is back and bench is playing good,,lakers will get a sixth ring for 24!!!!

  • Jerome

Denver showed the weaknesses, of which there are many in the Lakers’ D. Thunder in 5.

  • heyheyhey

haircut?!?!?! haircut?! dont talk about bynum’s hair… they’re in the playoffs right now, he doesn’t have time for a haircut. they’re playing every other day. haircut?!

  • BRYANT BYNUM GASOL 24 17 16

wanna have sex andrew? so hot

  • Ldub

heyheyhey…yes haircut. Youre telling me that just because youre in the playoffs that you cant find a barber that will line u up in a matter of 20min? Bet money one of the other players has some clippers with them. Kobe stays lined up, sessions, Drew used to but I dont blame the “playoffs” for a reason to not stay groomed. You represent your family, the organization, the L and yourself. So yes grooming (IMO) should be just as important. Regardless if its preseason, season, post season or hell even off season!

    DEFENSE, duh Bynum.

  • http://slamonlin.com jumpman22

    that means you,no. 24!

  • TTWS3

So that’s why they didn’t win tonight! Should’ve followed through on his statement.

  • trueballer4life

ah bynum man jus shut it.. an produce.

  • Sarah

    Andrew, stop saying words.

  • Landry_legend

    lol, after tonight, what defense?

  • Yesse

I agree, Landry. It was funny when Bynum was at the 3 point area when Perkins was wide open down low.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Bynum is the X factor in this series. Lakers need to feed him early and often to get him going. He needs a huge game in this series on the road to boost his confidence.

  • patrick

I doubt they can win even with defense..

  • Kj

Bynum has that “the lights on, but nobody is home” look. He looks a little bit off….just sayin’
