Carmelo Anthony: Knicks are a Top 3 or 4 Team in the Eastern Conference

The New York Knicks’ season from hell may have come to a fitting end in Miami last night, but star forward Carmelo Anthony says he has plenty of confidence in his squad, and where they supposedly truly rank in their conference. From Newsday: “Carmelo Anthony has made the playoffs all nine seasons of his NBA career and has advanced out of the first round just once. But after scoring 35 points in Game 5, Anthony said he doesn’t believe there will be many more first-round exits and that the Knicks can eventually get past LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the Heat. ‘I feel confident in my team and where we’re headed,’ Anthony said. ‘In the future I feel good about competing with the top teams in the Eastern Conference. I do consider our team being up there, top three, top four teams in the East. We just got to get better.’”

    Sooo delusional

  • Jer dawg

False sense of bravado given his track record. Excuse me while I LMFAO at his comment.

Oh, so you didn’t finish 7th in the East this year? My apologies. And you didn’t finish 6th last year and get swept by Boston? Well, carry on then.

  • Kim

    Defense mechanism?

  • FLIGHT 9

YES, TOP 3 TEAMS IN THE EAST BEFORE THEY MAKE THAT STUPID TRADE FOR YOU CARMELOOOOOWWWWWW

  • Heals

I don’t know whether to rail on him for being so arrogant/delusional or be jealous that I’m not able to go through life with such obliviousness. By the way Melo 3rd or 4th in the East is 9-10th best in L overall. Hell I’d take Orl’s roster and effort these playoffs over NY’s all day everyday…

  • Leroy

Not really that delusional if you look at the knicks records since Woodson took over, they were better than most teams bar Miami & Chicago.

  • DEN

Any of you Kncks fans miss Gallo,Wilson,Felton, and mozgov? The knicks were better when these guys wer in NY. Amare played better.

I’m surprised Melo didn’t say the Knicks were a top 2 team in the league. I’m quite curious what ORANGE will say about this…

    as am I ^^

If they were a top 3 or 4 team in the East then they wouldn’t have gotten spanked by the Miami Heat like that. Why don’t they have a top 3 or 4 record then? Face it, as long as the NY Knicks play Melo-ball they won’t be winning anything. This is obviously a shot at the Indiana Pacers or the Boston Celtics. Maybe if your team wasn’t so stupid they would have tanked so that they could have played the Chicago Bulls in the first round. At least Lebron knows how to pass the ball, Melo only had ONE assist last night.

  • Marc

    in 2K they are.

Interesting to see if Woodson has any more success running ‘Iso-Melo’ than he did with ‘Iso-Joe’ in Atlanta. It works, 20% of the time, all the time.

  • abaci

Wait someone connected to new york has a lot of unfounded confidence? Shocker!

  • Ghost361

Hes not talking crazy considering they went 18-6 under Woodson in the reg season with injuries to key players

  • ash

Not a Knicks fan but with training camp and all the players healthy Knicks could be top 3 in the East. East is not as tough as the West and Celtics will be a totally different team next year. Remember Iman Shumpert and Jeremy Lin was out for the playoff

  • AQWORD

Thats right Mello. Thats right. Just let it all ouy bro. There you go. Now strap him up guys.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Melo later went on to say, “and for us to get better it would probably be imperative not to be spending the entire Salary Cap on 3 players….oh well”

  • ab40

of the D-leauge that is. This team and this coach don’t understand jack about team basketball.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I’m so looking forward to next season. Be it Mike Woodson or Phil Jackson as head coach. It’s imperative for the Knicks to have a coach who garners the respect of his players and will hold guys accountable for the entire season. The Knicks are NOT “miles away” as some bald headed shock jock moron once said… They just need to tweak their roster by adding to their backcourt which will compliment their frontcourt. The Knicks “Money Players” need to step up their games too. Melo needs to be the April Melo for the entire season. No getting into shape on company time. There is no excuses this summer sans the lockout drama. Go Knicks!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

LOL there is absolutely no chance in the world Phil Jackson comes back to coach the Knicks. HAHAHA i can’t believe you even consider that a possibility. bahahahaha lol bahahahaha thank you for the comedy.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

nbk go back to playing with yourself. LOL

  • AQWORD

If there was a Big Bang Theory of SLAM posters. Nbk woul have to be sheldon. You know the guy who thinks hes always right. :-)

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

wait, use your oh so beautiful mind and tell me who expresses their opinion and doesn’t think it’s right? smh.

  • Mas

    Yeah buddy!

  • Darren

While it might be possible to reach that level next season, proclaiming it straight after being dumped out of the playoffs probably isnt the smartest thing.

  • Jerome

NBK has a better grasp on reality than most on this site. Jackson only coaches elite players who get results on the floor. NY doesn’t have anybody close(re: “miles away”)to the calibre required. Jordan(Pip), Shaq(Mark Madsen), etc.

  • MeloMan15

His statement is actually pretty acurate… look at everything that they went through this season: Melo injury, amare injury, d’antoni leaving, new coach in woodson, no true point guard bar the 2 week linsanity… and they still made the playoffs. not to mention baron and shumpert going down in the playoffs. They were like a top 3 team in the league after woodson got there…

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com Miami Joe

In the east that’s not saying much.

  • E Rock

They are absolutely going to be in the top 4 next season. What basis does anyone have to disagree with facts..? Injuries plagued them and they still finished 18 and 6. The knicks will take the summer to get healthy and work on how to accommodate their “big 3″, Other teams to be scared of the knicks, to say the least. And in the east it says alot, what are you talking about?

Jackson may not come, and that’s OK because theyre gonna be a top team if Woodson stays on either way. EASILY! 18-6 under woodson, with injuries – those are facts. Haters don’t have a big wave to ride one, and yall are gonna lose alot of sleep over the knicks next year, straight up

  • FruitMan

What? The Knicks? They are a top 3 team. They have Lin! Hooolooo hoo hooo looooo loo hooooo loooooo loo lo lhohohloohohohohooo

  • deadbored

why are people acting like he is so far off? hey NBK, how can you be bothered posting here when you have to explain such simple sh*t to people all the time?
