Chris Paul: ‘We Had a Good Season’

The San Antonio Spurs swept the LA Clippers out of the Playoffs last night, dimming out what had turned into a mini-resurgence for the moribound franchise. Chris Paul, the superstar point guard acquired via trade this season, looked on the bright side despite the postseason ouster. From the LA Times: “They played Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinal series against the San Antonio Spurs right up to the final few seconds of the game Sunday night. Still, in the end, the Clippers dropped a 102-99 decision to the Spurs at Staples Center, getting swept out of the playoffs. Chris Paul had been the Clippers’ savior all season, their closer. But he couldn’t save the day this time, missing two shots late when the game hung in the balance. And it was Paul’s best game of the series, his 23 points and 11 assists going a long way to help the Clippers. ‘We had a good season,’ Paul said. ‘I think it’s a good sign for our team, but there are no moral victories. It’s not like, ‘Oh, we made it to the playoffs and it’s all good and well.’ We feel like we should still be playing. We’re going to keep working. We’ve got some work to do. We obviously have got to get better.’ [...] ‘I think it’s great that our team got a little taste of the playoffs,’ Paul said. ‘I think coming into camp next year we are going to expect more, a lot more. It’s going to be a big summer for all of us. I need to get better. Everybody has to get better.’”

i don’t know that most of the personnel can be expected to improve all that much going forward. blake on the other hand, absolutely must get better if they want to even sniff the conference finals

would of had a better season if the nba didnt nix that Laker trade

I think they need a new head coach…Blake is young – he will get better. A full season with a healthy CP3 will be what they need. Oh, they may also need another big forward or a true center to be a contender.

they nees a big who can shoot from the outside in order to open things up, too crowded down low

    MVP in my book.

Blake needs to take some courses from Professor Olajuwon this summer and DeAndre should focus on becoming a threat from 15-18 feet. Bledsoe should follow CP3 everywhere he goes this summer.

MVP case could definitely be made. Is he more valuable to the Clippers than LBJ is to the Heat? That’s a good discussion. They caught the injury bug and I think the series might have played out differently had Billups played. The K-Mart signing was crucial. I’m not too sure about their cap situation, but could you imagine if this team was able to get Batum or Gerald Wallace? That would be a fun team on 2k.

Would Antawn improve their roster? Pros: outside shot & post game Cons: age & average defense

More like they had a season. Not sure who was drinking the Conference Finals Kool-Aid that was put out after the Paul trade . . . . CP3 was never right, but it was all mental. Needs to see a sports psychologist and figure out how to play through pain, rather than around it . . . . Guarding TP all series didn’t help matters any.

Hope Blake learned something this series after getting schooled by Duncan and Diaw. Will need to rely on actual moves in Year 3, instead of athleticism and coordination.

Funny, but except for Caron Butler, no other starter played consistently well. And unless they upgrade their roster and keep their bench players playing bench minutes, look for them to go nowhere new next season. Not sure if Billups can actually help them at 36, either. CP3, My Dude, you right: “it’s all on you”, going forward . . . .

Blake will get better. Del Negro’s getting better, too. But what they absolutely need, more than anything, is wing scoring. The pick and roll can be a team’s bread and butter, but it can’t be the veggies and steak, as well. They need offensive diversity. If I were in their front office, I’d be plotting a way to bring Eric Gordon back to add to Blake and CP.
