Clippers Confident They Will Re-Sign Chris Paul and Blake Griffin

LA Clippers team owner Donald Sterling has already let it be known, in the creepiest way imaginable (as he is wont to do), that he plans to do whatever it takes to retain stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. The rest of the Clipper front-office has confidence that it will get done. From ESPN: “No sooner had the Los Angeles Clippers finished one of their most successful seasons Sunday night with a heartbreaking 102-99 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the playoffs did the attention in Lob City turn to the future. Namely, how long Blake Griffin and Chris Paul will be a part of it. Griffin is eligible to sign an extension with the organization this summer or he could become a restricted free agent after next season, Paul’s is under contract only for one more year. The Clippers say they are confident they’ll be able to retain both players for a long time. ‘I feel those things are going to get done,’ Clippers president Andy Roeser said. ‘The important thing is that we have to do other things to improve the team. But I believe we’ll do those things and ultimately I believe those two players (Griffin and Paul) are going to play out their careers here.’ Griffin is eligible to sign a five-year extension on July 1 and the Clippers will absolutely offer it to him. When asked directly about his intentions, Griffin said he hadn’t thought about it just yet. ‘I haven’t given it one ounce of thought,’ Griffin said. ‘That’s been the furthest thing from my mind, honestly. I know that’s kind of the popular thing to say, but I haven’t thought about it. I’ll get to that when it comes.’ Paul wasn’t asked directly about his future intentions, but a source close to the situation said he has given the team indications he intends to stay long term.”

    HOLY SHlT!!

  • EGOT

Tough way to end the season, but I hope they can keep the ball rolling next year. With a healthy Chauncey, a deep roster and more time to build chemistry, the Clips have a tremendous upside.

  • dsleepy

EGOT might be the best handle/name i have seen on here in a while

  • TheWhiteMarkPrice

Hopefully they can sign both long-term and have enough cap space to give Eric Bledsoe an extension, and sign some more depth.

  • LA Huey

You think they’ll keep Chauncey or let him walk?

  • John Tran

    First thing first.

    1. Fire coach Vinny Denegro – does not have strategies against any coach; has horrible offense and defend game plan. can’t get outside of the box. too dumb to coach; Get Larry Brown or someone with playoff experiences.
    2. Please trade Mo William. He is a stat player. He can’t defend to safe his life. Too short and small to be a shooting guard. not a team player.
    3. Bulk up Andre Jordan and put him in training camp.
    4. Look for a better shooting guard and small forward even if it take to trade everyone beside paul, blake and jordan.

    Nate Macmillan is waiting Clippers!

I don’t have faith that Donald Sterling’s punk @ss will will ever spend what it takes to build a long-term successful team. Frankly, I hope he doesn’t. I don’t want to see that franchise succeed as long as he’s the owner.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

He already has built the team..

Really? I didn’t know Paul and Griffin were signed long term. I also didn’t know the team as it is can be a legitimate contender. Musta missed the announcements.

If the clippers keep the starting lineup as it was at the start of the season:dj,blake,butler,billups,cp3 that is alright, but the bench needs to change to either one of the following:
evans and foye can stay but make it a 1-2 seasons at a time low price,Keep Kmart,go after omir asik,do a sign and trade mo williams for mike beasley-give him a 3 year deal kind of thing, resign nick young to a 1-3 year deal low cost, and keep eric bledsoe. The bench then becomes one of the better ones in the league.Vinnies team option shouldn’t be picked up sorry but the guy hasn’t improved his offensive sets,he cant develop talent,He lets his teams blow leads after his fourth season this should have improved by now he has had two amazing pgs and still cant win-the bulls went to the ecf as soon as he was fired.I would say go for Nate mcmillian as the guy lead a broken portland to the post season+ he has a half court offense imagine what he could do with a healthy clippers team?

If Chris Paul stays in Clipper land, his career is officially over. What a waste of talent, because is, if Paul is thinking Blake will become a complete player in the future. He is totally losed. Clippers are going no where. If people think Billups was going to make a difference at 40 years old, you are really of the wagon. BOOK IT!!

  • barnabusb

I heard Stan Van Gundy is available……

  • Ldub

The Seed….CP3 is on a good squad. And if you dont think Billups would have made a difference, you are lost. His leadership and decision making on the court would have played a huge role in the Clippers game. Not only is he one of the smartest guards in the game today, but his abilities are stop good as well. The record for the Clips with and without him speaks for itself. Plus being in the playoffs and a finals mvp speaks alot for his talents as well!

  • DukeFromDeep

F**k you Seed, what’s the problem with Griffin. He’s only second year and has got plenty of talent. Seriously, what’s yr problem?

  • http://www.yahoo.com Captain Obvious

Clips should try to trade future draft picks and anything besides Paul and Blake for melo…. Probably won’t and can’t happen but just sayin……

  • Amare stoudemire is a dumbass

@ captain obvious:Trade for mello hell no he is a cancer and is a ball stopper why would they want that? He can give 20ppg but for the price of wins I think not.The knicks were a more complete team before the trade for him.All the clippers need is a couple of pieces and a better coach not a complete revamp if they want the next level and to convince blake and cp3 to resign.

I hope both signs with NOH next season.
