Danny Granger: Udonis Haslem Should Be Suspended for Game 6

Udonis Haslem delivered a hard, retaliatory foul on Tyler Hansbrough last night, during the Miami Heat’s critical Game 5 victory. According to Danny Granger — himself no guarantee to suit up for Game 6 — Haslem should be forced to sit out the next battle. From the Sun-Sentinel: “Obviously it was retaliation for Tyler’s foul on [Dwyane] Wade,’ Granger said. ‘I mean, I saw it was bad in the game. Then I came back here and I saw the replay. It looked about three times worse. That was all-out. I expect to see Flagrant 2. I’d be shocked if they don’t upgrade it after looking at that play. … Seeing it in slow motion, it was obvious what [Haslem's] intent was. I think it was just as dangerous as what Metta World Peace did to James Harden. I know he was trying to protect his teammate, but it was a hard foul.’ Granger’s own status is uncertain for Game 6 on Thursday, but that’s due to the serious sprain he suffered to his left ankle late in the first half. [...] In terms of discipline, the timing of the Haslem foul was suspicious and could prompt action from the league office. Granger admitted the Hansbrough foul on Wade ‘should have been a Flagrant 1. He went to block the shot and there was head contact.’ However, Granger also was upset by the garbage-time foul on Pacers backup Lance Stephenson by Heat center Dexter Pittman. ‘Lance is getting X-rayed right now; he might have broken his collarbone,’ Granger said. ‘I’d be surprised if that one’s not a Flagrant 2 as well. Like I said, it was like the Wild, Wild West.’”

Granny Danger should keep his tough guy act to himself.

I didn’t know that when you supposedly go for the ball you claw the guys face at the same leaving him bleeding from the eye Indiana is the dirtiest team, and if the refs didn’t thrown Haslem of the game there is no way he should be suspended for defending not only what hansborough did but what granger and the hole team and the whole league has been doing taking cheap shots at the Heat, when everybody does it to us it’s ok but when the Heat does it outrageous and we should be suspended please stop it people all of you are ridiculous

  • Trtmntdude

Cubicle, you must be watching those games through navy blue and gold-colored glasses. Tyler did in fact block the ball but you failed to mention the blood that was drawn due to Tyler raking Dwyane’s face with a COMPLETELY different motion than the one used to block the shot. It wasn’t a follow-through. So forgive us if we don’t cry about U sending a message to Tyler. So far, by my count, all the players that have had to have bandages are wearing red and black.
And lets not even talk about Hibbert eliminating Bosh from this series with a whack across the head.

  • shutup

I’m suprised no-one thought of Lebrons play when he stepped under Granger shooting was dirty. People always talk about Bruce Bowen doing that, well that was my first thought when I saw that play.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

On one occassion Granger mounts Lebron’s back while swiping at his head in a downwards motion and on the other he doesn’t just grab but tugs Lebron Jersey with 2 hands. Lebron responds by raising his elbow at shoulder level without making contact and Lebron’s the problem?! Like most are saying, Granger, Vogel, and the Pacers initiated this physicality and Granger of all people to be the first to complain to the media is just soft!

    Granny Danger

  • Tim

How about this! Just play the game and be quiet! Every body has taken shots and getting a little physical but, that’s the playoffs. The only reason why he want’s Haslem supended is because they wanna get as much as an advantage as they can to win game 6 PERIOD, because if Indy would have won do you think he would have said anything No, so SHUT UP and play thanks.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

Cosign shutup I thought the same thing although it wasn’t as blatant and dirty as BB

  • ChipS

nobody’s talking about that play because Lebron is not Bruce Bowen. I think it was accidental, timing, and foot placement more than it was dirty.

  • http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/3183/tex-winter-compares-kobe-bryant-and-michael-jordan Allenp

Didn’t think it was a dirty move Shut up. He contested, then boxed out. He got under his feet some, but it appeared to be just one of those things. Particularly since he was looking at the ball’s flight the entire time.

  • CubicleWorker

Trtmntdude isn’t that the same foul that Wade gave to Kobe during the allstar game?? Still, I’ve by accident made that same foul and dudes by getting up to rim level and the guy pump fakes and you come down on his head..

  • Feez_22

@Diesel : “If you ask me the fake tough guy is the person that cheap shots and hits people knowing he won’t have to ever deal with retaliation.”. thats what you said. The funny thing is, lebron didn’t hit granger on either elbows thrown. As i said before, elbows are thrown in the paint all the time. Not saying that lebron is right for throwing it but granger was riding his back to a point where his headband came off. Clearly you are gonna want to get that guy off you. I agree that the fast break elbow was a little callous although i haven’t seen a guy grab another guys jersey with 2 hands on a fastbreak in a LOONG time… The Fake Tough Guy is the guy who retaliates by talking, yapping, just str8 whining to try to get the other stars riled up. Go look at the hibbert foul on wade again. As a guard, when you are going 2 the basket, the most annoying thing is when a big man just grabs you. Hibbert just grabbed him. Wade was probably like (man get off me) and swung his hand away. Its as simple as that. If this were granger’s first time instigating than fine… Fact is he’s done it his entire career college and NBA. he is a fake tough guy. there is nothing else to it… I mean he tried to instigate a fight ouside disney world for christ sakes. I don’t understand how anyone could take what granger is doing this series as “tough” because it’s not. its what chumps do.

  • hatersrfunny

Yea clear flagrant 2 on hansbrough haslem needed to respond cant let soft teams punk you be real even after placer’s went up in series more people excited this weak squad would take out these guys. The most impressive thing is how they would r*petrain em harder with bosh but acting hard never beats talent kiddo

  • IamYOU

And they say NBA today is soft huh? Yet we have a list full of argument on who should be suspended and who’s not. smh..

  • ofelia

If Udonis should be suspened then Granger should be suspended the rest of the games as well. He is noone to talk!!!!!!!!!!! ANd that other loser on his team Hansbrough. Its ok for them to pound and violently hit Ud, Wade and James but it goes back to them they cry like babies.

    Sour losers!!!!!!!!

  • jose

Pitmann needs a suspension. i guess if Granger isn’t capable of playing in the next game because of his ankle, then i would consider suspending Haslem to even it out

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

don’t have time to read all the comments so i don’t know if someone mentioned this but ill be disappointed if haslem is suspended. He didn’t even really hit him in the head. It was a hard two hand shot to the arm. There is no intent to injure him, he is just giving a hard foul sending a message and sticking up for his guy.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Let’s keep it 1000, Tyler actually made an OD play for the ball. Yea, he got Wade’s head on it, but look at that in slow mo. Wade pulled the ball down and Tyler followed thru hard on it, but he got ball first. Haslem got all arm and shoulder on his foul. Haslem SHOULD’VE gotten ejected right then and there and should be suspended. But like I said, the NBA knows that an upset leading to a Pacers vs. Boston/Philly ECF would be wack! They wanna make sure the Heat make it. No suspensions though I wouldn’t be surprised if Tyler gets suspended. LOL…

  • LA Huey

I knew someone would accuse LeBron of “a Bowen”. Not accurate at all. Just unfortunate.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

@Feez, I was talking about Wade with that line. I think Wade’s the fake tough guy.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Hansborough: Hard Foul (borderline flagrant)
Haslem: Hard Foul (slightly less borderline flagrant)
Pittman: Send him home for a week.

  • JoeMaMa

Hanbrough got ball. Alot of ball. His follow through was worthy of a flagrant. Haslem made no play on the ball, and his follow through was worthy of a suspension. I like 90s basketball, but this isn’t the 90s. The NBA cleaned itself up to make itself more accessible to a wider audience. One result of this is that the league comes down harder on these types of plays. Haslem deserves to be suspended, because it’s retaliatory and he didn’t attempt a basketball play. I really don’t see why this isn’t better understood. And as I stated, I think the Heat still win this series. Haslem gave his team the juice to play physical, despite his likely suspension. Let’s take a moment to remember when Raja Bell clotheslined Kobe, got suspended and the Suns still won the series. I foresee a similar result.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Haslem’s was worse than Hansbrough’s, Pitmann’s was way worse than Haslem’s. Dex will be out for a while, an argument can be made for Haslem being out one game, and Hansbrough is fine.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Neither Haslem nor Hansbrough should be suspended. Pittman maybe shouldn’t be allowed back this post season. that’s how bad his action was.
    ,
Haslem and Hansbrough though, those were just real hard fouls. Haslem’s was worse, he maybe should have been ejected last night. But a suspension is not necessary. It wasn’t malicious.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Coulda just consigned me nbk, but whatever :p Haha

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

ehh, true, but i basically repeated myself from 12:24, just in a more concise manner.

  • Rayeasy

The fix is in!!!! How are we even discussing this when the FIRST cheap shot of the series was by it’s second biggest star?! Dwayne Wade began this with his outright, in the back, cheap shot of Darren Collison (that should have resulted in a SUSPENSION). Of course THE LEAGUE(David Stern) couldn’t afford for his boys to make the Finals, and no question a 1 game suspension of Wade would have spelled DOOM for the NBA advertising machine.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

True true. Here’s a question for you, was Pittman’s shot worse than Bynum’s from last year?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They were both equally horrible. Pittman was sent out as a henchman though. That might make it worse. What you think?

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

I think bynum’s was a little bit worse because J.J was up in the air when he got hit. I know Lance was running in for a offensive board and thats bad too but there is nothing like hitting a guy out of the air imo.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

They don’t need Pittman. That’s why he played the role of henchman.
They needed to procure a guy who The Kingsmen could afford to lose for a while.
Now that being said, he could have executed the assignment with more tact. More discreetly. But as Jukai noted, Pittman is still wet behind the ears.
Then he winks, as if to say, “hey, King, I got the job done for you.”
But all in all, one has to respect Pittman’s high spirit. His willingness to do a “job” for The King.
    And his men.

  • LA Huey

Bynum was worse. Don’t even need to take into the larger gap in size between the victim and aggressor. Bynum went after a guy that was airborne.

  • The Rookie Phenom

Its amazing what these heat fans are saying about Granger . Im still shocked and appalled that D Wade wasnt suspended 1 game for his cheap shot on Collison. Oh my bad I forgot Stern wont punish his money makers.

  • https://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway/status/205162159875952641/photo/1 nbk

click my name. I am not proud of this. But I also think it had to be done.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

I wonder if the Pacers will send a bench warmer they don’t need (like Pittman) to straight body Wade or LeBron. Bird calling them soft my ignite some ish. And word to everything Wade and LeBron throw so many ‘bow’s that’s it’s Ludacris! They ballin’ and clubbin’ at the same time. Talk about Miami basketball…

  • paul

You are all stupid if you think Granger should be suspended when he was responding every time to Lebrons elbow. Granger and Tyler both went for the ball then something happened. However everyone seems to forget that DWade destroyed Collison on a fast break. Haslem never even looked at the basketball. Your all blind

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

nobody said anything about Granger being suspended. even remotely.

  • shutup

3 games for Pitt and a game for Haslem said WOJ

  • paul

nbk can you not read? Look at the comments up top

  • paul

look at the comments up top nbk, or can you not read

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

So you took Bad Bluue’s comment as serious?
    - And a guy whose name is LeBron MVP?
You take those two comments as “You are all stupid if you think Granger should be suspended when he was responding every time to Lebrons elbow”
    .
All is 2 people who, one was clearly being sarcastic, and two is clearly not the type of person you would try and have a logical argument with.
    .
Whatever, i’m sorry i “can’t read” – and i am also sorry you don’t possess the ability to distinguish what is worth addressing

  • http://abcnews.com charliewinning

Well, Haslem is officially suspended for game 6. Pitt got 3 games. The Heat have to play “even smaller” ball.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Haslem should NOT have been suspended. WTH. Hard fouls aren’t allowed anymore I guess.

  • shutup

I’m not so sure it was the contact that warranted Haslem’s suspension, it was the context that got him suspended.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    ^ that’s troof

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

If the refs would’ve just called it what it was (flagrant 2) when it was committed, then he wouldn’t have gotten suspended for game 6. Real talk, Wade should’ve gotten ejected or suspended for that elbow to Colison’s back on the fastbreak. But there’s whatever at this point. Either way, the Heat are taking this series with or without Haslem.

  • WEASAL

DANNY GRANGER A FAKE TOUGH GUY MY ASS HE’S FROM THE WORST HOOD IN THE US

  • shutup

    ^ a little late bruh.

  • Dj J

Hey Granger, STFU. Your the one whos supposed to be suspended. I saw your technicals from the past games this series, so shut your mouth!!!

  • Ronny

Question I’m not getting??? How do Lebron & especially Wade accuse Granger of trying to be the tough guy just because he gets in jbl’s face AFTER lebron swats an elbow at his face in both games? Granger did nothing wrong. He tried to block a shot after just doin so the play b4, then just does a good foul to stop the easy layup. Is that a good reason to throw an elbow to his face?! Stop trying to turn it around on GRANGER. How do you accuse a guy of tryin to be a tough guy for gettin in your face after you deliberately swat at their head?! of course he got in you face normal person reasonable reaction. What would anyone do? JBL was in the wrong not granger…who really started it all? Nice try LBJ & Wade??
