Frank Vogel: Miami Heat ‘Biggest Flopping Team in the NBA’

The Indiana Pacers/Miami Heat series has yet to begin, and Pacers head coach Frank Vogel is already campaigning against the Heat‘s flopping ways. Per the Indy Star: “Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel always seems to have a trick up his sleeve when it comes to getting across a message. Thursday, he sent a message to the officials who will work the Indiana-Miami playoff series about how the Heat players like to flop on defense. ‘They are the biggest flopping team in the NBA,’ Vogel said. ‘It’ll be very interesting to see how the referees officiate the series and how much flopping they reward. Every drive to the basket, they have guys not making a play on the ball,’ Vogel said, ‘but sliding in front of drivers. Oftentimes they’re falling down even before contact is even being made. It’ll be interesting to see how the series is officiated.’”

Give bulletin board material to two of the three best players in the world while you have a team that doesn’t have even one superstar. Playing against a team with two. Great strategy Vogel.

  • marchalmadness

hahahaha come on Frank, man up!

  • RIGGS

It’s not like he’s wrong. Also, lebron and wade gets away with a lot of stuff when it comes to the refs.

  • AsadSaleh3

LeBron and Wade get superstar calls. Just the way it is and always has been.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Crazy how it’s a second round matchup and the 3 best players in this series are on the same team!

  • Rik Smits Mullet

As a heat fan the only thing i want to say is.
His last name is the dutch word for bird.
Lame fact of the the day.

  • smoove

i agree ….idk why they flop anyway most of the time the refs blow the wistle as soon as you even initiate ANY type of contact..

  • Heals

Ugghhh, Frank, you’re gonna make me end up rooting Mia, shut-up and play. This from the franchise that gave us Reggie “watch the kick-out” Miller…

  • Da-Meat-Hook

@ Rik Smits Mullet, would that make Chris Andersen “Vogelman”?

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    Frank is just being frank.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

    Clippers. Nice try though.

  • Fred

    He’s so right

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

    Clippers. But Heat are close.

  • @AsadSaleh3

Yea teams should just keep quiet. Why care right? Miami will win anyway right? There is absolutely no reason to try and get and edge with the refs. I mean the PACERS might as well not even show up.

Why the hell would you think it’s better to NOT say anything. Wade and Lebron will be the best players on the floor, whether Vogel said anything or not. Why not say something and at least try to make sure that the refs stay in line.

This is going to be a good series because unlike the other SOFT teams in this league they don’t back off because their up against stars. Expect to see many technicals and flagrants

  • Metrobus

Such a cry-baby move….The games have not started yet and he already has a losing mentality. He is feeling threatened by the powerful Heat

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @Da-Meat-Hook
yeah thats true. it would be vogel man. but there are more dutch words as last names in the usa. prime examples are all the last names that start with “van” which means from. like van gundy would be from gundy. And the most weird one is Spoelstra thats a last name typical for the nothern region of the netherlands.
These are all remnants from the days that new york was called new amsterdam.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@ Rik SMiths Mullet – Is a Vogel in the hand worth two in the bush?

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Thanks for the lesson, Rik Smits Mullet!

  • Mike Mihalow

And people thought Vogel should have won Coach of the Year?
But he is right, the Heat do flop a lot.

  • kobe

Superstars get superstar calls nuf said.

  • R32

Vogel just adding fuel to the fire. Miami is on a mission..

  • RunNGun

Pacers are going to give the HEAT a run for their money. Let’s see what happens when smashmouth meets the Miami floppers.

  • TTWS3

I thought that honor went to the Clippers. Guess I’ve gotta watch more tape.

  • jimmythesaint67

So obviously true. Heat are desperate to avoid last years collapse. Biscayne Babies.
But please, some ref, just man up and tech DWade one time after he bitches about missed layups/phantom fouls .. he hurts his team by not getting back AS A CAPTAIN after these plays – send a good FT shooter to the line to reiterate it.
That’s all i have to say about that.

I’d say Miami is runner up to the Clippers. I’m looking forward to this series. I think it goes the distance.

  • AJ2nice

Getting superstar calls is one thing, flopping (which Miami does a whole Hell of a lot of) is totally different idiots!

  • @boweezy24

I Think Pacers Will Give em a Run, but The Refs Aren’t Going to Let It Happen.

  • @boweezy24

There Should Be An Award for The “Best Flopping Team” Ha!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I see a few winnable games for the Pacers.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @iamorange4ever
the same saying in dutch is literally translated.
Better one bird in the hand then ten in the sky.
    @Da-Meat-Hook
no problem. one lame fact to boot. some of the boroughs in new york are named after dutch city’s like Harlem which is named after Haarlem.
And Brooklyn is named after Breukelen which would make the Nets
the Breukelen nets. Keepin it real.

  • AJ2nice

Getting superstar calls is one thing, flopping (which Miami does a whole Hell of a lot of) is totally different idiots!!!!

  • LA Huey

Rik Smits’ Mullet dropping knowledge. Let us know whether Nets gear is sold in the Netherlands as “Breukelen” or not. I’d prolly pay good money for that.

  • ash

Wow! I wouldn’t say there the #1 flopping team in the game. Everyone flops and all superstars get calls. Kobe,Durant, Melo, CP3..I hope this give Miami a littler bit more fuel to win

  • AJ2nice

    Kobe doesn’t flop

  • Mack

Coaches never learn I guess… you can bet Wade Bron and Bosh heard this statement

  • Top$helf

Yeah Kobe doesn’t flop he just cusses the ref out and throws a tantrum when the defender is nowhere close to fouling him

  • Paps77

Love it. Call them out. Todays players are huge floppers.

  • LA Huey

Kobe is guilty of what JVG calls the “verbal flop”.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

Kobe doesn’t flop? I’ve heard it all. I’m one of the biggest LA and Kobe fans on this site and I even call BS on that retard statement.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @la huey
I will let you know. highly doubt it will happen though.

  • EJ

Kobe hardly flops, he just yells every time he shoots.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

All that random arm flailing by Kobe is flopping. What you mean is that he doesn’t take charges on defense, which is true.

  • R32

One of the biggest jump shot floppers has got to be JCrossover aka. Jamal Crawford. Kicks his legs out and automatically falls down.

  • alt

They flop alot for as athletic a team as they are. DWade is someone that uses everything imaginable to gain the advantage. Even if his talent would indicate that he shouldn’t need to. Hard to root for.

  • Iggi

Frank Vogel is a chicken his already asking the refs for help.
Super-stars get super-stars calls that’s they way its been, that way it is and that’s they way it’s going to be. So man-up Chicken.

  • Iggi

He should be fine for sending this email to the refs, I hope it works agains him.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Why in the blue sh*t would you say something like this? Vogel you do realize you have some pretty dramatic floppers on your team as well? Or that pissing off a team that is already considerably more talented than yours is probably not a good idea? Oh dear. This series will at least be fun to watch.

  • shutup

Harlem isn’t a borough the 5 boroughs are Manhattan which Harlem is a part of (or New York County), the Bronx, Staten Island (or Richmond County), Queens and Brooklyn (or Kings County). Although the Mullet does have a good point I found this fun fact ——–Brooklyn’s official motto is Eendraght Maeckt Maght. Written in the (early modern spelling of the) Dutch language, it is inspired by the motto of the United Dutch Provinces and translated “Unity makes strength”. The motto is displayed on the borough seal and flag, which also feature a young robed woman bearing fasces, a traditional emblem of republicanism.[3] Brooklyn’s official colors are blue and gold.[4]

  • Mo

A sucker move by vogel. The pacer players need to be worried about the Heat, not about the refs making calls. Pissing the Heat players off isnt gonna work in their favor either.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @shutup
Didnt know about the motto thing. cool fact. The updated version in modern dutch would be “Eendracht maakt Macht”. The correct translation for the motto would be “Unity makes power”. Dont know where the republic thing comes from because we are a monarchy just like the uk. With a prime minister. Iam just really happy the Netherlands were force to trade the new york area for the country Suriname. Because otherwise hip hop might not have originated.
