Kevin Garnett is Prepared to Die for the Boston Celtics

When he’s in a good mood, there’s arguably no better interview subject in the NBA than Kevin Garnett. He dropped his latest gem during a chat with WEEI. (Via SRI, Celtics Town): “How tired he was at the end of the game against the 76ers: ‘I’d die out here if I had to and that’s real talk. I’ve been doing this for a long time and ways where I know how to conserve energy and get ‘em at free throw lines and when guys are shooting free throws, those are valuable seconds for me. When I train in the summer I train for a lack of, and when I say that, I mean rest. I program my body to recover as quickly as it can. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m a cerebral player these days and I know how to buy myself time on pick and rolls and stuff like that, things that you don’t see when you’re in your seat and it helps me.’ [...] ‘I have no life at this point. I go home, get treatment, come back in here, study tape, film. No life at all. This is what it is.’ … ‘When we win I’m having a lot of fun. When we lose it’s a tough day.’”

  • ALD

  • add

    a little extreme

  • Charles

Love to see players these days care about winning! You can say what you want about this guy, but I’m sure every team in the L would love to have him.

  • ClydeSays

Love it. I hope one of the Philly owners (I see you Will Smith) calls him old & dirty.

  • fruizm

Im not a fan of KG but I wish more players had his intensity.

  • bike

KG would be a good spokesman for the Ageless Male supplement.

If Miami decides to play LeBron at the power forward position, and Boston meets Miami in the playoffs, KG just might get his wish.

KG it’s your full time job. u make it sound life u work 100+ hours a week and get no sleep..it’s all relative

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Jpain, he said he plays, gets treatment, then spends the rest of his time studying film. EVERYTHING he does is related to his profession. That’s like a fisherman fishing

in un-related news, Kevin Garnett is a crazy person.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

then going home and studying fish, then watching Shark Week!

Not sure if this guy would take mad money to play for the Nets, nor would he take a discount to stay with Boston next year. If Boston goes to finals, win or lose, I think it will be his last year. Fade to Black.

  • Heals

Yup, yup nothings changed since he arrived. He also tried to die for Minny (see JThompson interview). Do you DMH, it’s all good J is and forever will be clueless on this one. Slugs like that ain’t even worth the salt…

    KG

  • iknowmybasketball

good to hear KG and his passion with the celtics, my bet is hes gona retire here. lets just hope the other vet ray allen doesnt jump ship and try to play for another team because AB stole his starting spot.

  • Jono

I LOVE THIS MAN’S ATTITUDE. One of the few players who fully deserve their full paychecks, as absurd as they are. For every Eddy Curry, theres a Kevin Garnett.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Fresh Prince Robert Horry

is he saving energy wen he goaltends shots after the whistle?

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

I love kg so much…not a lot of players who love and respect the game like he does.
He will have a hard time once he retires though.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Kevin Garnett has so much drive in him. He gets the most out of what he has been given. His will to win is off the charts, and it rubs off on his teammates. There is no pill for that!

  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Dopeman

I’ve been able to watch KG since he’s been in Boston and he’s never lacked any effort. People call him dirty and he’s far from that. If you look at the bench after a bad play or even a good play KG is always coaching.

  • rudster

People are not use to this from these million dollar kids over the last 10 yrs or so , so when you hear this u might say its talk but KG IS THE REAL DEAL

  • Kurino

    @iknowmybasketball:
AB is not playing ahead of Allen because he’s a better player. He’s playing because of his defense; not to mention that reduces Allen’s chances of being injured. You can tell Allen is still the man because they run plays for him. How many plays does AB get?

  • patrick

KG>Bosh.. Even tho Bosh is i think 6-7 years younger…I think Bosh is just slow. KG has better speed than him on drives + running the floor

  • Dingo Rob

Having the name Bosh and KG in the same sentence burns my eyes

  • Shifty

can always count on “the big ticket” to say something loyal to his team. Been playing for so long and still going strong and putting everything he can into it, unlike a lot of players in the league. I personally hope he does take a pay cut to stay in boston, he is everything the celtics represent. He will be missed when he eventually retires.

  • BostonBaller

    No words….

  • Greg

He wants to die for the celts? i believe him, i mean why else would he continually choke himself to death whenever things heat up in a playoff game…

  • Darupes

I am a high school varsity coach with a 6’0 tall 6th grader who is a hoops junkie… KG is his role model for his game and attitude (minus the cursing). I couldn’t be prouder of his choice… He recognizes heart, desire, and pure love of the game when he sees it … Just watch KG on that old NBA defense commercial (“defense is our backbone”) One more run in ya … Come on Cs!!! If not, I know you’ll go out with pride and leave it all out there!
