Magic: Mike Brown Will Be Fired if Lakers Lose Game 7

Magic Johnson, who still has ties to the Lakers organization, claimed that Mike Brown’s job would be in jeopardy if the L.A. loses Game 7 against the Nuggets tonight. The former Laker great had this to say during Friday’s NBA broadcast: “Should the Lakers lose Saturday in Game 7 of their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, Magic Johnson has a definite idea on what will happen next. ‘They’re going to run Mike Brown first out of town,’ Johnson said as an ESPN NBA analyst Friday. ‘Then second will be [Andrew] Bynum. Then third will be [Pau] Gasol.’ Whether that will happen remains unclear. The Lakers’ front office has publicly praised Brown’s performance as head coach in his first season. Brown, who makes an average of $4.5 million a year, has two more guaranteed years followed by a team option.”

I think Pau and Bynum should be on the hot seat. Yes, they are on it, but i don’t think Mike Brown is the number one guy to blame.

Awesome. Then Kobe can become the first player/Head Coach in recent times. Win-Win?

Good timing Earvin. If that’s what’s going to happen then let it happen. You saying so doesn’t help matters at all, especially on game day…

bynum needs to start acting like a man. the nba is a mans game. no need for crying and pouting about ANYTHING. gasol needs to man up and start playing like he is one of the top skilled big men in the league. but i just cant help but dislike bynum more and more. he has so much talent and we are witnessing his potential some nights, but being selfish is not going to h=elp ANYBODY

They should’ve just made Brian Shaw head coach. He knows the game but more importantly he knows the Lakers. He & Clemons would’ve been good coaching that team.

    Brian Shaw

Is Bynum going to have another meltdown in an elimination game like last year? I’m asking it as a legit question, because he still comes off as an immature player incapable of controlling his emotions when things don’t go as planned.

I like Mike Brown but who cares if he gets fired…he will paid $9 million for doing nothing if he does get fired.

During last years sweep by the Mavericks, it’s safe to say Bynum was one of the best players for the Lakers. Bynum mentioned that the team didn’t show trust towards each other. Now what he probably meant was I’m not getting the ball and I’m working my tail off, both which were probably true. But Phil Jackson didn’t think Bynum was ready to be a leader on offense and wanted him to be a leader on defense. Last year Bynum rarley made stupid comments and for the exception for his meltdown in the game when he got tossed, had a pretty good year. Phil retires and now you see exactly what Phil Jackson was worried about. Bynum is now considered a veteran on his team and has been to the Final 3 times, winning twice. But as skilled as he is, he still doesn’t get it! Gasol played his best basketball the year after the Celtics beat them in the Finals. He came back the following year focused and played tougher. He outplayed Garnett the next couple of seasons, winning 2 championships in the process. Maybe his best years are behing him? The Lakers never bought into Mike Brown, the players don’t respect him and I don’t agree with that. Metta World Peace just may be the wild card during these playoffs…his defense, his rebounding and occasional scoring will make the Lakers a tougher out. Without the Bigs stepping up and playing like they have a pair, I see another disappointing season.

Sorry, they are not trading the best young centre in the league. Are you kidding me?

  • jayrose

Only way I see bynum leaving is by trade for howard but that’s probably not going to happen. Its almost a gurantee that pau will get traded but I guess we will see after tonights game

No way in hell we lose this game. If it were a team like OKC, Spurs, or even Dallas then I’d be a little worried. But c’mon people no way this young Nuggets team comes in an knocks us out in the first round at home.

Bynum is young….isn’t that argument getting a little old? I mean, he’s been in the League since 2005 so maybe he had more than enough time to figure things out. And by the way, he’s older than Kevin Durant and the OKC bunch but nobody talks about how young they are just about how good they are. And by the way, if the Lakers lose this series, it’s not Kobe’s fault or Mike Brown’s fault. I would look at Gasol and Bynum: they are not doing jack.

  • Treshiq

@ T-Ray….the LAkers are in dissaray…YOUNG is exactly a benefit in Denver favor..If they shoot anythin with 5 percent from the field of what they did On Thursday,.then LA will have trouble…MWP can’t guard the whole team at the same time.

Never say never T-Ray, the Nuggets are hungry thanks to Bynum.

    Magic = Genius

Did Magic mean mike brown’s butt will be kicked out of LA????? Oh boy.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

I just honestly feel that the media and a lot of people have been hyping this game 7 up a little too much. I’m sure they will come out focused and it won’t even be a game.

As a Laker fan, the game 7 against the Rockets, I felt we would win, because players didn’t quit. Rockets was a great home team. These Nuggets do not care and will take any shot to win. Lakers have given confidence to Lawson, Mcgee, Corey Brewer, Manianimal, Dano and others. Lakers Pau and Bynum better play or they will be shipped out. If Lakers don’t, Kobe should ask to be traded to a Team that wants to win. Pau can be traded to Nets for Deron. Like I have stated many times, I wish Lakers could have gotten Howard for Bynum. Once Bynum leaves the Lakers, he will see how good he really had it. Bynum will shrink under pressure of being the Guy, one day. BOOK IT!!

Why should anything that Magic says be taken seriously?

Nate Mcmillian is sittin back enjoying some fine wine right now

  • http://slamonline.com Datkid

I see nothing wrong with trading bynum for howard. or even for howard AND turkoglu.

  • What

Dwight is a good match for LA. Hes a dumb b*tch.

‘They’re going to run Mike Brown first out of town,’ Johnson said as an ESPN NBA analyst Friday. ‘Then second will be [Andrew] Bynum. Then third will be [Pau] Gasol….’
    He would know…lol

  • Hmm

I think Slam is taking his comments out of context…I’m reading it as him sayin the fans will be running Brown, Bynum, and Gasol out of LA, not management.
