Report: LeBron James Wins NBA MVP Award

Miami Heat forward LeBron James has won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award, according to multiple reports. This is James’ third time winning the prestigious MVP, becoming the eighth player to win the award at least three times, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone. Much respect and salute, LeBron. ESPN has the details: “A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that James will be announced Saturday as this year’s winner of the league’s top individual honor, and that he’ll be formally presented with the trophy by commissioner David Stern on Sunday afternoon before Miami hosts Indiana in Game 1 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series. James said last week that while another MVP award ‘would be amazing and would be humbling,’ it’s not what drives him. In his ninth season, James still has not won an NBA title and it’s clear that, although he wanted to reclaim the MVP trophy, winning a championship is far and away his top basketball priority. James averaged 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists — making him only the fourth player with those totals in at least two different seasons, according to STATS LLC, joining Oscar Robertson (five times), John Havlicek (twice) and Bird (twice).”

Cosign T-Ray. The guy must be a rookie poster or something not to know that about Eboy. That’s why I thought it was hilarious when Eboy cosigned ZOGS.

  • Kobester

Dude could end up with more MVPs than MJ has before it’s all said and done. Say what you want about the dude and he’s an once in a life time talent.

  • AQWORD

^^^ Word ^^^ Bron tore this season up. BOE DOWN Beeehatches! !!!

  • Ranlygeorge

This shit is a popularity contest. The true MVP’s are tony Parker, Kobe or K. Durrant. Dwade is the MVP on that team, hands down.

  • http://www.nba.com nbk

I stink of gorilla juice all day. Errday.

  • http://hotmail.com Gangsta

I thought it would be KD who’s more prolific than labronda.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Take LeBron away from the Heat and how good of a team are they still…they’d still be pretty damn good…I didn’t realize MVP = best stats award.

  • Kareem

Other than scoring a few more points per game, KD did nothing better than Lebron this season. Lebron scored less but more efficiently. How’s his azz taste?

  • Kareem

With the Heat’s weak azz bench they’d be under the Knicks without Lebron. Hei s their best offensive and defensive player, thus the Most Valuable Player. It’s not just about stats.

  • http://hotmail.com Gangsta

Why the hell call labronda the king? no ring, no championship this iz what u call a king? go ahead with yo illusions suckaz. MJ iz the king. The GOAT.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

LeBron is the King of MVP’s, not rings.

  • 23

take away lebron from the heat, then you gotta play wade more. so most likely his body would be breaking down at an even more alarming rate. so they wouldnt be in the top 3 in the east imo. plus the heat CANNOT SNIFF a championship without lebron. wade+bosh+chalmers doesnt exactly equal champs in my eyes. and wade cannot carry a team BY HIMSELF. PERIOD.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

@ 23 – they wouldn’t be a championship contender, but Wade + Bosh = top 4 seed in the east pretty easily. Best SG in the league + one of the best PF’s in the league with a solid defensive team around them is going to be quite good still.

  • Kareem

Orange, that’s more than Melo will ever have. He’s a one dementional ball stopper who’ll never lead a team to even one ring. Lebron is getting his ring this year. Melo will be lucky if his overweight self can win a scoring title.

  • Fat Lever

Well deserved He had a historic season and he does more things better than durant. What’s ironic is that the more awards he wins like this, the more pressure he has to prove his greatness(until he wins a title). Stats like he’s the only 3 time winner w/o a title are the reason.

  • Top$helf

When Lebron retires all the haters gonna be like damn we shoulda took the time to appreciate his game cause that dude was great I despise Kobe but I respect his game and love his work ethic

  • Jono

@Top$helf that’s the truth right there. People gotta just STFU and appreciate his game.

  • JoeMaMa

    Lebron is really good.

  • feez_22

In the famous words of phil jackson during the 09 NBA playoffs: “How bout you give em some Fuggin Credit?”. Fact is this. Wade was decent in the reg season but his numbers clearly were down across the board. from 26ppg to 21ppg… Maybe it was a bout sacrifice. However, he was injured for a # of games and without him, the heat lost like 2 or 3 games. Thats out of 18 he missed. Give lebron credit. He was 27ppg on 53% on offense AND was the heat’s defensive anchor. People say that the heat would have been just as good without lebron… wtf are you smoking? They can hardly run offense with lebron off the court. Their defense is still good bc if yall watched the heat even sparingly before this season, they were top 2 or 3 i believe in opponent FG%. However, lebron played hard on both ends. & it was obvious. Good recipient. If KD won, i wouldn’t be mad. In reality, the race wasn’t that close but u know… haters like @bull22 gotta watch lebron rape his team while he has carlos boozer talking about being proud 2 be a reg season champ

  • jayrose

I don’t like lebron but as a baller I respect his game. He is the best in the league no matter what anybody says. Its hard to defend him and he has a beasty game every night. Although I’m not a fan I respect and congratulate lebron.

  • dan

this is a setup! i cant believe they didnt give it to scalabrine!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Don’t get me wrong, I think LeBron is the BEST player in the league, I just don’t know if you can call him the most valuable when he has two other superstars on his team.

  • A.

So we’re considering Bosh a SUPERSTAR now? Or is that the case only to discredit LeBron? Because just last year people were saying how they were more a Big 2.5, but now he’s a SUPERSTAR? Got it. If we’re going with dumb reasons, then in that case, Durant doesn’t have a case either since his team is stacked as well. Take Kobe out also. Popovich’s brilliance and TD take Tony Parker out of the picture as well. We’re left with…CP3 I guess.
Maaaannn, listen LeBron deserved this more than anyone out there. If you fail to see this then…I don’t know what to say to you. Now he just has to close the deal in the Finals. I’d love to see who people would put ahead of him and why.

  • White Mamba

    I GOT ROBBED!!!

  • 23

    I totally agree with A. ^^^^^^^^^^

  • Kareem

Orange, at least he’s the king of something. What is Carmelo king of? Lebron is getting his ring this year. Melo has zero MVPs. Wayno: lebron is his team’s best defensive player and the best offensive player. The Heat are a good team, but not contenders without him. Plus they have no bench.

  • 23

westbrook had a very similar season(if not better) than wade. harden is head and shoulders the BEST 6th man in the league. and the thunders big men are obviously better than mia’s. kd def had more help than lebron. and as great and phenomenal as parker is. its hard to credit the spurs success to only 1 perosn

  • feez_22

@Wayno Lebron has 2 other superstars on his team? LMAO… Bosh wasn’t a superstar in toronto, wasn’t a superstar in the olympics and damn sure aint a superstar on the heat. 1 superstar (Wade) who didn’t play like a superstar this year and bosh (Solid all star). Not 2 superstars… Bosh… from overrated 0.5 of the big 2.5 to superstar to discredit lebron being MVP. Oh the hilarity. In fact, if your MVP candidate is kevin durant, I can make a legitimate case that the westbrook/harden 2/3 punch was just as effective as the wade/bosh 2/3 punch this year. Comparable #s & impact not to mention harden played 62 games & WB played 66. Wade played 49 & bosh played 57.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Do you remember the numbers Bosh was posting in Toronto? Do you think that maybe the hit to his statistics might have something to do with the fact that he plays with two ball dominating superstars? Come on now, Bosh was a straight up beast in Toronto, and he’s still capable of that type of production.

  • Kareem

A: They don’t have people ahead of them cuz their opinion is based more on hate than facts. Ppl do anything to discredit him. I can at least respect an honest hater.

  • sadeye2507

@ bull22 What’s a pork donut pusher??? And congrats LeBron

  • Pokemon Master Ash Your Mother

LEBRON IS THE BEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME.. BETTER THAN MJ,KOBE, YUH MUDDAS! ALLL!

  • 23

lebron, cp3 kd, d-will, kobe, rose, dirk, howard and wade are basically the SUPERSTARS of the league, and arguably carmelo.

  • A.

Dude, there are a handful of superstars in the NBA. And Bosh is not one of them. Wasn’t in Toronto, and isn’t in MIA. Like feez_22 mentioned, he is a solid All-Star. A superstar should be able to dominate and make his presence felt no matter who he plays with. Bosh was thrust into the role of superstar in Toronto because…who else was there? But joining up with LBJ and DWade showed everyone that Bosh was not on the same planet as those two. But he is a solid All-Star, which is still awesome.
Superstars, IMO, not only put up big numbers, but also lead their teams to wins deep into the Playoffs. To win the entire thing a great team is needed. But Bosh was never able to lead Toronto deep into the Playoffs. And that hurts him when it comes to being a Superstar. Same reason I don’t put Kevin Love as a Superstar. Great numbers, but it doesn’t translate to team success.
All of that to say that saying LeBron shouldn’t be MVP because of his team is ridiculous. MVPs are usually the best players on the best teams. In that case, MJ didn’t deserve his, Magic, Bird, KAJ, Bill Russell… See how ridiculous that is?

  • 23

    once again, cosign A.
this dude is on point today.

  • Exile

    1. I am not a fan, but no one can really deny this was a case of either Durant or LeBron and LeBron earned it. They had a great record without Wade and he really is doing what people thought he would. Rings will come, but this is about the season.
    2. Bosh is an all-star, but not a top 5 talent like the other two, but don’t discredit the effort and talent he brought to Toronto. He is a great player.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

What is a pork donut pusher? I’m not sure I want to know…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

jayrose, tell me how my @ss tastes.

  • PnoyVibe

I don’t like him, but then again well deserved

  • iknowmybasketball

by the haters’ logic, if u have no ring you are a BUM. 90% of the players in the NBA dont have rings. And im pretty sure u have to be good to play in the NBA?

  • GTK

its his award to lose till he retires

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

I’m not being a hater first of all. I just said Bron is the best player in the league. I have mad respect for his game. I’m just saying that because he’s playing with the best SG in the league and at worst a borderline(there are you happy?)superstar in Bosh, he’s not AS important to his team as some of the other superstars in the league. He’s essential to thier championship hopes, but they’re still a top team in the east without him. Look at Chicago, D-Rose went down and they couldn’t even take Philly in a series. If I had to bet on Miami without LeBron vs. Philly I’d still pick Miami. (not a bulls fan btw, nor am I making a case for DRose for MVP THIS year). Again, I’m not hating on Bron, he’s amazing.

  • MAS

I think he deserves it but does it mean he will get a ring at the end of the season? I don’t see it happening and if it does #3 will be the Finals MVP. That’s how I see it.

  • Trout

Women lie, men lie numbers don’t. That being said when Wade went down the kid did step up a gear 18-1 without wade on the floor. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t have the same cast in a Cavs uni otherwise he would only have half the hate. Good luck to him but I still think he will crumble if he makes the finals but time will tell.

  • Kareem

    Mas is a hater.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Wayno you still have to define what you mean by “as important” – for instance, without him, Miami probably would be a 4 seed in the East at the very very best. So how important is more than 1 series of home court and the chance to actually win a championship (the thing everyone is repeatingly criticizing him about – actually winning it – he’s criticized for not winning the title- does anyone understand he’s the only player in the league everyone just expects to win a title every year?) rather than just making the playoffs with the chance to win a round? If you are saying making the playoffs is ALL that matters than of course LeBron is not the MVP. Then it’s Dwight. And there just isn’t even close to a discussion. But that’s never been the prevalent criteria do nobody really votes or argues that way.

  • Kas

The best team (talent-wise) and 4th best record. This doesn’t add up. He’s still an unlikeable douche with an awkward game.

  • BostonBaller

LBJ is a beast and you can’t deny that he was one of the top 3 players (MVP) worthy this year. I wanted KD to get it but I’m fine either way. I still think people are simply afraid to play against LBJ, they’d rather play D by reaching in and fouling instead of heads up D and fouling.

  • Jerome

@Trout: There are three types of lies: Lies, Damn lies and Statistics.

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

The hate for this man is mind boggling. He deserved it period. I’m no where near a huge LeBron fan but you have to give this man his props and if the Lakers don’t make it to the finals I’ll be pulling for him just so all the haters can go crawl under a rock.
