Report: Pau Gasol Would Like a Trade to the Chicago Bulls

The general assumption is that Pau Gasol’s days in Los Angeles are numbered. And according to Bulls.com‘s Sam Smith, should he be traded, the Windy City is Gasol’s preferred destination: “Gasol averaged a career low 17.4 points per game this season even barely ever being allowed to play inside with Bynum healthy. The interesting part, according to Lakers’ insiders, is Gasol would like to play for the Bulls. And what you hardly need any sources for is to see how he and Bryant basically can’t stand one another. It was no secret around L.A. what all those post series comments were about. ‘We got to be committed to each other,’ said [Metta World Peace]. ‘This year we wasn’t as committed collectively, and that hurt us a lot.’ Said [Andrew] Bynum: ‘We just weren’t doing it together.’ That was because Bryant and Gasol were constantly at odds. And that came out several times in the playoffs with the two frequently arguing on the court and Bryant again questioning Gasol’s heart. Yes, Gasol will be 32 in July, though given his position and the way he plays he can go a good four or five years. And that’s why him going where he wants to go would be vital. He has two years left on his contract and has talked about returning to play in Europe afterwards. Unless he really liked where he was, you assume. Also, his exorbitant $19 million salary the next two seasons makes him less desirable. And it’s no secret the Lakers want to move him.”

Make it happen Bulls. Problem is, I have no idea who we’d need to give up to get him.

  • drudilly

Lakes will not do that trade unless Joakim Noah is in the deal…if they throw in Tahj Gibson, it’s a done deal. Lakers can throw in Session for John Lucas

  • Heals

Lakers fans your prayers have been answered; “at starting power forward for your Los Angeles Lakers, out of Duke and he still lives with his mother, it’s CARLOS BOOOOOOOOOOZZERRRRRRRRRR!”…

  • Fat Lever

My guess is that it’ll take Deng and Taj to get Gasol. I think with those two, the salaries line up, or are at least within 25% of each other.

  • http://slam FLIGHT 9

I like to get rid of deng pls….. before boozer……
problem is lakers will not bite the deal unless noah is included….

  • lloyd

The Bulls will need to give up Deng to make this possible.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Carlos Boozer to the Lakers? lolllll

  • FnF

Playing in a major market has its perks but these bigs need to ask if getting run out of town AFTER winning multiple championships is worth it? Not too long ago Pau was arguably one of the best at his position. Now he is being portrayed as a lazy, unmotivated, highly skills, expensive, 7-footer, triple-double capable, long, scrub when it matters excluding Game 7 of the finals, mentally unstable, possibly on the decline but give us your best young bigs in return trade bait. It was all good just a week ago. [103 weeks ago.]

  • Fat Lever

Why would LA want Noah, unless they plan to trade Bynum? I would think they keep Bynum, and if Gasol brings back Deng(instant upgrade over Artest) and Taj(looks like a solid capable starting PF), wouldn’t that team be better than this year’s starting 5?

  • LA Huey

You signed a contract, sissy. Well, as long as he knows that he’ll still be blamed (right or wrong) when they lose.

  • http://kb24.com Bigi

    Not gonna happen…

  • elmaar

yes there is no way boozer is not included in the deal for gasol
although I can imagine the almighty lakers might want some type of a gift like deng, asik and gibson for gasol, mwp, mcroberts, ebanks
the most they can get is boozer and deng for gasol and mwp and I doubt the lakers are doing that

  • Bt

The bulls players would riot if Deng is traded. He is the the co-leader of that bulls team and their revolves around Deng playing 40+ minutes a game

  • Marge Required

This won’t happen. The Lakers will insist on Noah. Bulls would be silly to give up the soul of their team.

Shut the hell up Heals lol jk I’m just bitter that your prediction may come true smh might as well give Chi the title

  • ke11y sl8r!

If bulls can do it without giving up noah and deng, just give up boozer and maybe taj, then i likke there chances at a chip with a healthy rose

Gasol’s playoff flame out helped me realize much of beast Phil Jackson is as a coach. Phil won two rings with that soft toothpick.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

didn’t this story pop up during the season? I feel like i’ve seen that headline before…

  • jay rose

I am literally laughing at peoples trade scenarios here… Why the hell would the bulls give up deng or noah or even gibson for gasol?? That makes no sense but keep dreaming laker fans

  • Dungeon Family

Hell nah Boozer would make Matters worst

He don’t show up in Playoffs either.

  • MAS

The soft toothpick has two more ring the you.

    but…but..they bought a horse together…

  • ash

I would not give up Noah or Deng for Gasol. No way!

  • http://gmail.com z

mmmm, i think pau’s gettin too much of the blame for the lakers’ postseason loss, really i think management basically tanked this season when they gave up odom, and then decided not to go with bshaw as the coach (i think continuity from phil’s system woulda helped the chemistry quite a bit, especially in a shortened season). pau was to blame for the loss to dallas last year, tho that was understandable due to fatigue, bottom line is i think pau should be kept for another year, he’s a legit triple double threat most nights, and SUCH a good passer, if anything i think bynum’s the one who should be getting shopped.

If Lakers think that PGasol is soft and doesn’t show up for big games (which is false), wait until Carlos Boooooooooooooozer comes to town.

  • bike

Is it not possible that losing PJ, getting a new coach, and dropping the triangle played a role in Gasol’s dropoff season? And remember, he got freaked out over possibly being traded early on…seems like everyone wants to toss the guy under the bus…

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

JTaylor, your weird dude. You love Pau and think he is a a top 2 PF still. Here’s your quote in case you didn’t realize what you typed…”Lakers think that PG is soft and doesn’t show up for big games(which is false)”
What planet do you live on homie? Is Pau Gasol like Arnold Swcwartzenheimer on this planet?
He is an incredibly soft player that has not shown for countless ‘big’ games over the last couple years…
I have no idea which player in the NBA you think Pau Gasol is, but I know it ain’t the Pau I know…

  • Heals

    @SpitHot, classic material…

  • http://slamonline house

You are a goddamned idiot if you think giving up Deng is a good idea.

  • sam

So the Lakers can get a overly paid Boozer who was a bust? I don’t think so! Lakers can go after someone else more younger and less paid.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Doubt they’ll do this unless they feel Deng’s injury is worth a trade for a healthy Gasol. Plus if they’re upset enough at Deng for not sitting out the Olympics.

  • ash

Gasol is a finesse player, always have been even when they won last championship against Celtics. Sometimes your opponent will take you out of your game just like Perkin does to Bynum.

  • http://www.slamonline.com aman from arkansas

The Bulls should amnesty Carlos Boozer and draft Andrew Nicholeson or trade Noah for Josh Smith.

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

Gasol had to play out of his position the whole year. Blame a part of his shortcomings on the coach and not only on his ‘lack of heart’.
He is the same player with the same skills but couldn’t contribute as he did in the past.
People will see that when he comes to another team with a coach that will use his skills the right way.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Lake, so you’re just going to ignore the fact that the lakers went from 1st round fodder without Gasol to making 3 straight Finals and winning 2. Gasol doesn’t show up in those big games, the lakers don’t win any of those championships.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Oh your talking about the Pau Gasol from 3 years ago. My bad. Thought you were talking about today’s, or last years Pau Gasol. MY BAD.
Yeah, Pau Gasol 3 years ago was a legit player.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

You do realize Pau Gasol has been around 18 and 10 every year he’s been in LA…. He had one bad playoff series last year against Dallas and all you dumb Lakers fans blame everything on the guy. His production and efficiency dropped this year not because he’s a worse player, but because you have the Grimace as your coach and he tried to turn him into a stretch 4. He still managed to average 17 and 10 despite being relegated to 3rd option who is used to stretch the floor as much as he was to play to his strengths. And last season, before the Mavericks series, he was just as good, if not better then he had ever been in a Lakers jersey. It’s gonna be f*cking hilarious when he gets traded and has a better season than Andrew Bynum next year. Especially with Bynum on his way to getting over-paid before his body inevitably breaks down.

  • EJ

Gasol is not worse than he was a couple years ago, theyre just not using him right and Gasol is not being assertive enough to excel on the system they have.
And not being assertive is not necessarily a bad thing at all on a team with a lot of star power. I think it\s Kobe and Bynum who need to check their attitudes, not Pau.
And yea, I\m a Lakers fan and I think Gasol is a top 2 PF today and better than Bynum, just for the record.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

Bulls will be stupid to trade Deng, Noah or Taj Gibson…I say amnesty Gasol and the Bulls sign him up and Goran Dragic..sleeper guard

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Classy nbk.
    Classic nbk.
    “one bad playoff series”
Holy sh*t people have more selective amnesia when speaking about the Lakers than most teams I guess.

  • JGH

Man, it’s gotta be Boozer and maybe Rip. There is no way you get rid of Deng or Noah. Maybe Gibson, maybe.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I understand whole-heartedly that without Pau the Lakers don’t have two championships i recent years….but I also understand that he is still soft. Great player, but he’s still soft. His hard play was arguably the biggest reason we won Game 7 of the 2010 Finals. That was in 2010. Lately? He hasn’t been nearly as good in the postseason. In 2011, Pau didn’t play as well in the first round (Against the Hornets) as he should’ve, and he played like a defeated man in the 2nd. 2012- 1st Round, aside from Game 5 or 6 when he played like the diarrhea Kobe suffered before the game, he was solid. His production would have been better if we didn’t have a coach that is a complete retard when it comes to offensive schemes or adjustments. 2nd round, yes the Thunder are a better, deeper team, but that doesn’t discount the fact Pau played soft all series- not one bit.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    *in recent years

  • DukeFromDeep

Marc is better, better basketball body, better IQ, better jumpshot. Boozer for Gasol would make me laugh at Lakeshow soo hard!!! do it!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    BP gots the knowledge.

  • TheGreatestLakersFan

The Lakers will gladly let Pau Gasol go to Chicago for Noah and Gibson. Throw in Deng and its a done deal, but you can keep Boozer…why get rid of someone lazy and inconsistent for the same type of player. The Lakers need energy type guys
