Amar’e Stoudemire Fined $50,000 for Using Gay Slur on Twitter


As expected, the NBA hit Amar’e Stoudemire in the pocket for using a gay slur on Twitter recently, when angrily responding to a New York Knicks fan. Per the official League press release: “Amar’e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks has been fined $50,000 for using offensive and derogatory language in a Twitter message, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.”

    That’s hella steep. Though the Knicks should fine him half his salary for saying, “I don’t have to do any thing.” Son got A LOT to do to improve his overall game. Shoot better, rebound, stopped getting stripped of the ball and blocked at the basket, play defense, stop injuring himself on some dumb sh*t…

    He’s a mess. How can people want him and pay him.100 million is beyond me. He never played defense, he hurts himself and team, he says the most uneducated stupid things. Yet he is considered a star in our society.

    Give the man a damn break. First of all Stat was playing at all star form before melo was shipped to Ny, Secondly he never fully recovered from that nagging back injury he suffered last year against the Celtics in the playoffs. Thirdly , mike D was incapable of implementing a system in which Stat and Melo could thrive (also both of them missing a lot of time due to injuries) . Fourth, Stat lost a family member mid season which did effect his game. I’ll admit he has some shortcomings (defensively) but I personally give him a pass until I see how he has improved this upcoming season. Some of yall acting like the daily news ,throwing him under the bus after a sub par season. And as for this Twitter crap , who cares!? What happened to freedom of expression/speech? Calm down sternbot.

    I don’t know how twitter works but I thought this was a direct message to one person. Then that one person tweeted a screenshot of it and Amare apologized to the guy in another direct message. So because this guy tweeted a screenshot of a direct message, Amare gets fined 50K. I’d be pissed at the guy, what a f@9

    50K? Steep. Don’t see how this is in the NBA’s jurisdiction either. Plus, it’s not like he actually tweeted it, it was a message. I bet Amar’e get’s worse hate mail DAILY and nobody has to answer for it.

    kids, i know it’s funny and a lot of you are just messing around (even more fun on the internet when it’s anonymous and you’re not saying something to someone face), but i hope that you mature sometime soon. that said, i’m not a big fan of this. he didn’t say it publicly or it’s not like he said it at an NBA sponsored event. this is america, where you have the right to say what you want, and act like as much of a foolish jerk-off as you please.
