Deron Williams and Jason Kidd are Reportedly a Package Deal

As of now, it looks like Deron Williams is signing with either Brooklyn or Dallas, and if this ESPN report is to be believed, Mavs free agent point guard Jason Kidd will be headed to whichever of the two locations Williams decides upon: “Deron Williams, the most coveted player in this summer’s free-agent class, will meet with representatives from the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks on Monday before deciding which team to sign with this July, according to a source privy to Williams’ plan. Mavericks free-agent point guard Jason Kidd will also join whichever team Williams chooses, sources said. Williams is spending the weekend playing golf with Kidd in New York’s Hamptons, sources say, yet one more indicator that the Nets have at least a fighting chance to keep Williams and add Kidd sometime after free agency begins Sunday. Kidd, who has indicated that he hopes to serve as a backup to Williams either in Brooklyn or Dallas, also recently purchased a home in East Hampton, a source close to Kidd said. Another source with business ties to both Kidd and Williams says that the two already have decided to play together for the Nets next season. However, multiple sources say Williams is still torn about his decision.”

Would LOVE to have Kidd back on the Nets backing Deron. Please let this be true. I do love Farmar as a backup though, he hit a lot of big shots last yeae

  • Sundance

What makes Kidd so sure that any team will want him?

  • jayrose

That is a good package deal for either team.

  • 23

    Sundance, just close your yap.

  • MeloMan15

@Sundance… Any team in the league would take Jason Kidd… especially if he’s willing to be a back-up. Would be by far the best pg off the bench in the league

  • Sundance

@MeloMan15… Cj Watson, Eric Maynor, and Jordan Farmar are better back- ups. Jkidd is up in age and probably wouldn’t be much help

  • http://www.gmail.com dirty frank

    ^^^Jordan Farmar?? HAHAHAHA!

  • JUSTIN05

Sundance…just because Kidd is getting older doesn’t mean he is worse than other backup pgs. The nets would love to have Kidd back because that’s more $$ for them. He wants to go with deron b/c that means he’ll either finish his career where it began or he’ll get to stay on a championship ready team.

    ^^^CJ Watson?? HAHAHAHA!

  • http://www.slamonline.com the_unknown

^^^Eric Maynor?? HAHAHAHA! lol jk he’s a pretty good back-up but those other two… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • Slam-man

Howard would be crazy not to go to a team with those two running the point. He’ll be get alley-hoops on every play. Makes his job easier. And Kid is a good shooter so he ca spot up when they double team Howard. If I was Wlliams I would choose Dallas. Especially if they have a chance at sign Howard, idk if they do. But Howard and Dirt would be the best front court in basketball hands down.

  • Slam-man

Espn is saying that Howard met with orl new GM and asked the be trade to Brooklyn. Brooklyn should also sign on mayo if the resign williams

kidd is not needed in bk. farmar is a better back up pg. not to mention the fact that farmar has postseason experience (with the lakers). and since kidd doesnt have an experience edge over farmar everything comes down to the numbers.
    .
    Farmar 2011-12 stats: 21.3 mpg, 10.4 ppg, 3.3 apg, 1.6 rpg, 0.6 spg, 46.7 fg%, 90.5 ft%
    .
    Kidd 2011-12 stats: 28.7 mpg, 6.2 ppg, 5.5 apg, 4.1 rpg, 1.7 spg, 36.3 fg%, 78.6 ft%
    .
numbers dont lie. this is a no brainer. farmar is the better backup pg. bk doesnt need a pg who only shoots 36% from the field. I dont know any team who does.

  • Sundance

@Teddy bear…. Did you not watch the bulls last season? He was a good contributor for most of the season when Rose was injured

    What is going on here?
Anonymous do you really think that Farmar is as experienced as a multiple all-star, starting point guard (team leader), All NBA First Teamer…?
    Don’t answer!

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

It is so nice for a young player like Deron to have someone that has seen it all and done it all on his team.
He isn’t a great athlete anymore, but he still is able to run a complete offense and bring in his knowledge of the game.

  • mugiwara

jason kids defence on wade in the 2011 finals was better then any other pg in the league could manage. i recall him blocking wade before the shot went up at least 4 times during the series. it was truly incredible.

  • jufu

come home jkidd. we miss you

  • MeloMan15

    wow… sundance… really? smh

@L.E. reading comprehension isnt your strong point. I quote “farmar has postseason experience (with the lakers).” la won 2 titles while farmar was the backup in 2009 and 2010. la also made the PO every season farmar was there including 3 straight trips to the finals. all-star appearances and nba 1st/2nd team recognitions are subjective labels based on opinions. numbers are objective data based on fact and more reliable. farmar is bk`s current backup and is more productive therefore better than kidd RIGHT NOW. your argument is moot. the stats speak for themselves. note in 2011-12: farmar 3-point percentage was 44% while kidd shot 35.4% (and more than half of them were wide open, not contested – a defense that teams have played on kidd his entire career). wouldnt you rather have a player that you can trust to hit a wide open shot more often than not as opposed to one that will miss a wide open shot more often than not? dont answer!

if kidd wants to sign a 1-yr deal with bk as the 3rd string pg, the backup to farmar then thats cool. then he can retire at the end of the season as a net. I can see that happening.

  • http://Al Bigseandooitttt

Now why the hell would Kidd back up some scrub name farmer Kidd passes. Ettor than him and plays dedgence better it’s obvious you guys want Kidd on your team and not the netts… Lol

  • http://Al Bigseandooitttt

Passes better and played Defense sorry guys iPhone actin dumm

  • http://www.slamonline.com SirGrey

@ anonymous- i dont even think jordan farmar would agree with you

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

I don’t think that you should trust numbers anonymous.
A guy like Deron Williams doesn’t need a guy like Farmar that can hit a three or two more than Kidd.
He needs somebody that can tell him how you get a team to the playoffs/finals as the main guy not as a bench player.
It’s about experience on another level. Experience of a true leader.
I don’t want to take anything away from Farmar. He is a good backup.
But he can’t tell Deron anything, that he doesn’t already know.

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

One of the examples of such a combo is playing in LA.

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

    I’m good in reading.
‘since kidd doesnt have an experience edge over farmar’

  • E.S.

Jason Kidd will Undoubtly have his jersey retired with the Nets. Would be great to retire with them as well.

So, two-for-one player signings are now what’s hot in the NBA streets?
